Shave sounds Great! But the get together sounds even better. Sounds like a good time reminiscing with old friends!
It was great! They're the friends I've had for 35 years, where the familiarity is such that no matter how much time has passed, we pick up right where we left off. It's a great feeling, and it was an edifying hour. We're doing it again soon.

That's an awesome tradition! And an awesome idea for Sunday shaves, I might have to steal that from you.
Please do! I've got a backlog of soaps to try out, and a couple of new brushes, but I really like my Sunday shave to be assured of the best result.

I have friends like that. Always great to get together!

Very nice entry! Glad you got to reconnect with the buddies!
On Sundays I use what I feel is the best, or my current favorite lineup. The rest of the week I like trying different stuff, but on Sundays I like to use what I enjoy the most.
Yep, totally me too!

Today, on my 18th shave with the Diamondback, I nicked myself at last. Very tiny, alum closed it up, but it was the first miscue since I started using this wonderful razor. I blame a general feeling of malaise that was distracting. It's one of those quarantine days. But on to the bright side - I used my new PAA Atomic Rocket, and I love it!

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Green
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (1)(the old style with the printed logo, not laser etched)
Soap: Stirling Spice (first use)
Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Indian Old Spice AS

I still have around 80 of the old style Astra SPs, and I'll be honest: I can't tell any difference. I'm either fortunate or deprived in the discernment of blade quality department. I have a pretty wide variety of blades, accumulated over a decade, and in all honesty, I've only encountered one brand I didn't find comfortable, Derby Greens. I've not tried Merkur blades, avoiding them due to so much bad reviewing over the years. And I do find Feathers are rough the first shave, and dull after the 3rd or 4th. But aside from those, I've liked just about every blade I've tried. I'm in the camp that uses a blade 4 or 5 times and then replaces them. I was never tempted to try out the sub-hobby game of seeing if I could get 40 or even 100(!) shaves out of a double-edged blade. At 4 shaves a blade, I have a 25 year supply, so some poor soul, upon my passing, will have to deal with ziplock bags full of 5 blade tucks and "Do Not Eat!" dessicant silica packets. I stocked up on Personna Israeli Reds when I heard they were ceasing production, and I just grabbed a bunch of new Astra SPs when they were dirt cheap on Amazon. But if I tried to rank blades, I'd have Feathers set out on one end, Derby's on the other, and 20 other brands in a pile in the middle. When I look at it, I'm really very fortunate in that I'm not that sensitive to what type of blade I use, I have no sensitivity to fragrances or soaps, and my skin handles a four pass shave every day without irritation. I'm free to explore the world of wet shaving pretty much in total delight ( today's nick excepted of course). Shaving is the highlight of the day, especially these past few months of being hunkered down in this semi-rural Hermitage.

The Atomic Rocket is a great brush, and I like it better than the Starcraft. I started in a scuttle, then moved to my face, really digging the scent of Stirling Spice. It's a different feel from the Chubby 2, not as dense, and it gives up it's lather more easily. The shave itself was not as mindful as it should have been, but they can't all be Zen victories. The result was still BBS, and I broke out the Old Spice, which transports me back to my grandfather's bathroom. He wore Old Spice and Aqua Velva, so both are dear to me. So I'm smooth, clean, and I smell like my grandfather. Ultimately, all is well.

Thanks for reading my ramblings, Cadre! Have a great shave!

I'm more or less of the same mindset when it comes to blades. I've tried a couple of awful blades in the few years I've been wet shaving, but for the most part there's not a lot of separation between the different blades. They all get the job done well, with varying degrees of comfort.

That's terrible............................I stopped reading at this point and I'll meet ya in the BST thread  [emoji12]
I'm holding onto the Paradigm, but I'm wavering on the Envoy. I'll make a decision by the end of the month. I'm just loving the Diamondback so much, Im just questioning holding on to another SS razor.

A great, floral shave today. Planet 9 from PAA is a bouquet in a jar.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (2)
Brush: Omega Pro 48 (first use)
Soap: PAA Planet 9
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: PAA Planet 9

It's a sharper scent than their Mega Flora, and I have Planet 9 in the Crown King base, but I think that I'm partial to Planet 9 scent-wise. I don't have the Mega Flora Aftershave. But it was a great, fragrant trouble-free shave today. I used the Omega Pro 48 for the first time, but actually, my first brush, years ago, was a Pro 48, so I knew what I was getting. I bowl lathered with it, and probably will until the brush is broken in. It's a solid brush, and I'm happy to have one again. This will be my last new brush for the foreseeable future, just due to space limitations, but I'm very happy with what I've got. I'm really satisfied with the Chubby 2, and I also really like the PAA Atomic Rocket. I don't have a disappointment brush-wise. Now, my big decision is whether to keep my Envoy, or sell it and get some soaps I want to try. I ordered a Captain's Choice Copper lather bowl and some Venture Aftershave this morning. I like the looks of the bowl design, and it's less bulky than the scuttle I have, which, when I'm not using it as a scuttle, is a bit unwieldy for just bowl lathering.

So, a great, flowery shave this morning and I'm happy as a clam!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

Frank

I have been thinking of getting a copper choice bowl too. I have my scuttle from PAA which I really enjoy, but it is getting hot here and I'm not a fan of hot lather in the summer. Also, I just tried the PAA CK-6 base and man oh man was that awesome. I may have to look in a few more scents from them.
Awesome read Frank!

It was a good shave today. Not stellar, but good

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Cella Pre-shave gel
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (3)
Soap: Razorock The Stallion (first use)
Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Razorock XXX

This morning I tried out Razorock's The Stallion. I decided to bowl lather in my scuttle, actually doing the hot water fill instead of just using it as a bowl. It loaded fine, not an explosion of lather like with CK-6 or MdC, but it wasn't any trouble. It was plenty slick. The scent reminded me of incense at a Catholic church service. I definitely think it's a Fall/Winter scent. I enjoyed it, and I think the warmth of the scuttle intensified the aroma. It's a good soap, slickness was good, it was soft on my face, but it's not a stellar soap. I'll revisit it late in the year, when the frost is on the pumpkin. I like the brush a lot, judging it on two uses. And the Diamondback continues to excel.

Got a Drs appointment in an hour, so I'm off!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

I've never used a scuttle and I'm a cold water shaver but I've heard the warmth can effect the lathering of some soaps.
