Shave so good, it feels like you’ve already been using it for a year!
Yes! If it's this good every time, I may be doing some razor selling to raise funds for a brush!

A late afternoon shave today, and my floral component is PAA Planet 9 with Neroli.

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (2)
Soap: MWF
Brush: Thater Synthetic
Post-Shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: PAA Planet 9

My second shave with the Diamondback was every bit as good as the first. Four smooth comfortable passes for a BBS. It really can't get much better, so I might rotate blades and soaps just for variety and to have more elements in keeping with the floral and fruity theme of the month. MWF and Feather for the next few days at least. I used Planet 9 for the Neroli, and I do like it, but it hasn't been used very much, as I'm a bigger fan of citrus and sea scents. The floral will be a bit of a departure, but I do have several AS that will fill the bill. I'm thinking about doing Lilac Vegetal this weekend. I love it, but never wear it when I go out, lest that 35% of the population that smells cat urine be offended. I'll also be using Myrsol Don Miguel 1919, which is Jasmine. Citrus is easy, as I have several of those. Do you think Bay Rum qualifies? If so, then I'm set, as I have several of those, and I love every one of them. Bay Rum is my favorite scent.

Thanks for reading my journal, and have a great shave!

Bay Rum as a citrus or sea scent? Hmmm. Dunno about that one. It’s in a category of its own for me.

No, I'm sorry, I was muddled in my choice of words. I was wondering if Bay Rum qualifies for the May theme. Sorry about that!

I like all three, although Arko dries me out. I'm not sure even I could stand them all mixed together!

I made a command decision to take a day off tonight, and give myself the pleasure of mowing down 2 days growth for the first time in months. This is not to say that my mind has not been on shaving today - far from it. Today has been a day of pondering the possible acquisition of a Simpson Chubby 2 in Best. And thanks to the very considerate input of some Cadre brethren on a thread I posted over in the brush section, I think I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get one. What I want, simply put, is what the Chubby 2 Best is supposed to be. I like the size of the handle and knot, and the density of the knot, and it's shape, are just what I'm looking for. But the backbone of the knot, as I'm told, can vary widely, and I'm looking for soft. And sometimes they shed. So I don't think I want to place a $180 bet on reportedly inconsistent QC. So, my search is now essentially for a Chubby 2 Best, made better, by someone else. I read and researched today for most of the day, and only began to learn how little I know, and how much I need to learn before I'll feel like I can make an informed choice. I see good things about Thater - I have their Ivory Synthetic, and it's a little stiff. Shavemac gets high marks. Several other brands will fall under my scope of inquiry. My other two brushes, yes, I only have three, are inexpensive Badgers, one by Parker, which I used daily for almost a decade, and a smaller recent acquisition, a WCS Silvertip. To be honest, I don't see a new acquisition disorder with brushes like I have with soaps - my budget won't allow it, but I do want the experience of using a truly top-quality brush, having indulged in some great soaps and razors. So, my choice of brush will be well-researched and I'm going to take my time. Anyway, that's what's been on my mind today, and only as I head for bed, all scruffy-looking, have my thoughts begun to turn to what should be a glorious shave in the morning.

Thanks for reading - for putting up with my naive ruminations! Have a great shave!

Shave 3 with the Diamondback, and I'm really loving this razor!

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush: West Coast Shaving Silvertip Badger
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Pinaud Lilac Vegetal

Today I shaved 2 days growth with the Diamondback, and it handled it effortlessly. Very smooth, a nice slick lather from the Mitchell's Wool Fat. I wore through to the bottom of the ceramic container, but I think I have enough to last the month, then I'll order the refill. I really love MWF, now that I have water that it loves. It's such a soothing soap - I can't stop feeling my face after this shave! I finished up and the alum block was nothing but cool and toning. Then, I applied a generous splash of Lilac Vegetal, since I'm not going anywhere, so there's no danger of offending someone. It was a very comfortable four-pass BBS, and I'm feeling awesome! Now to keep researching brushes!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

Right now, I'm seriously considering going with Shavemac for my brush purchase. I like the configurator, and haven't found a bunch of caveats like I've found for the Chubby 2.

Well, today was a day of shaving commerce, as I sold 2 razors and ordered 1 brush. The razors, the Timeless SS .95 SB, which was too heavy for my taste, and the AS-D2, which was too mild for my taste, are headed to a new loving home in upstate NY. The funds were then turned around quickly, as I found a new Simpson Chubby 2 in Super for the price of a Best. I couldn't pass it up. If I regret it, I'll try and be upbeat about it, but the discount was worth the risk. I'll get me a Shavemac in the Fall.

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Platinum (1)
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush: Parker Long Loft Badger
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Fine American Blend

Another great shave with the Diamondback, this time with a brand of blade I'd never tried before, the Gillette Platinum. It is plenty sharp and gave me a smooth four-pass BBS. I finished with a splash of Fine American Blend. I love the scent - it makes me feel as clean as can be, which I am.
So it was an exciting day of selling and buying, probably my last shaving-related transactions for quite a while. So I'm hoping it works out. Now for a relaxing evening of classic baseball play-by-play and reading. I'm feeling pretty good!
