Tonight was a theme night, of a sort. The fragrance was Jasmine and the hardware was previously unused Gillette.

Prep: Hot shower, Kiehl's Facial Fuel, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: 1953 Canadian Tech (NOS first use)
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Soap: Mystic Water Jasmine (first use)
Brush: Parker Long Loft Badger
Post-Shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block
After-Shave: Myrsol Don Miguel 1919

I was very excited to use the NOS 1953 Canadian Tech I got today. I also got a very nice almost mint Old Type, which I'll use tomorrow, but I knew it would be smooth sailing with the Tech, and it did not disappoint. Smooth, close, irritation-free, comfortable, everything I expected, having had many fine shaves with my other Tech. It's fun to wonder exactly where this unopened razor, in an immaculate case with a pack of unopened Blue Blades, spent the 67 years it waited for its inaugural use, but it's found a happy and appreciative home here. I really enjoyed it, and it will get regular use and good care. I've never sold a razor I've obtained, although I have PIFed a few to friends who expressed an interest in wet shaving with a DE. I don't see this lovely razor going anywhere. As I mentioned above, the scent tonight was Jasmine, and I gave Mystic Water Jasmine a trial run. I love the scent - fresh Jasmine - my favorite floral scent. I do not like the size of the puck, and although I wasn't up to it tonight, I'm going to have to grate these soaps into the container and press. As it was, it lathered very well, being pinned against the side of the container with my non-brush hand. Sort of annoying, but ultimately not a very big deal. The soap performed really nicely, slick, with residual slickness and handled a lot of water as I face lathered. The alum block was cool and comfortable, and I'm BBS everywhere except right under my chin, which really only gets a BBS result with the Envoy and the 39c. I think I can get there eventually with the Timeless, but it's more than an acceptable close shave I got tonight with the inauguration of this lovely Tech. I'm very happy with my purchase so far, both soap and razor. Tomorrow night I'll be using the Old Type, and those are always a bit of an adventure. In sum, a great shave tonight, and it's always great to try out a new razor, especially when it's both Vintage and brand new. I've only had one other shave like that, with my NEW LC, which I also love.

Thanks for reading, and I hope your shave is as enjoyable as mine!

I usually enjoy my shaves, but haven't had the pleasure of a NOS 1950s razor. Congratulations on your score and your shave!

Nice looking razor! And it's amazing that there is still NOS out there. Mystic Water is a favorite soap of mine and absolutely love it. MW is a pretty soft soap so you should be able to press it into almost any container you like. I personally love to use MW in a shave stick!

An oft pondered subject myself, having a few vintage items...though none NOS!

Thanks everyone! Tonight I'm taking the Old Type out for an inaugural spin.

Tonight I gave me "new" Old Type an inaugural spin and man did I get a great shave!

Prep: Hot shower, Stirling Charcoal Face Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Gillette Old Type
Blade: Personna Israeli Red
Soap: Martin de Candre Vetyver
Brush: Thater Synthetic
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Captain's Choice Cat O'Nine Tails Bay Rum

I broke out my new bar of Stirling Charcoal Facial Soap tonight, and I really like it. Lots of suds, a mild fragrance, and it definitely cleaned my face well. I use their bath soap too. I'm a big Stirling fan. I've still got a bunch of new soaps to try, but I was really in the mood for some Vetyver to luxuriate in so out came the MdC. I love lathering this soap! I used my Thater, which is stiffer than either of my badger brushes, and it makes quick work of the MdC. I loaded a Personna Red into the Old Type and went to it. The lather was plenty slick, and the razor glided across my face with smoothness. I did four passes and came away with a great, irritation-free BBS shave. I'm wondering about the date of this razor, as it has no serial number or date code. I'm thinking it may be a later model, mainly because it's in such great condition. I have another Old Type, from 1917, but it has the common split at the top of the handle and a couple of very slightly bent teeth. It's not really shave worthy, but this new one did a fantastic job. The alum was cool and comfortable, and the CC Cat O'Nine Tails did its thing. So I'm ending the day feeling great and listening to Game 4 of the 1949 World Series. I know the Yankees win it, but I'm still enjoying the play by play of Red Barber and Mel Allen. They both paint an eloquent and fluid picture of the action. Another great day!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Tonight I shaved earlier than I usually do, as my stubble was bugging me, and I was excited to try out a new razor I bought last month, but around to which I am just now getting. The Razorock Self Lubricating Open Comb seemed a bit gimmicky to me, but at $17, I figured I'd give it a try.

Prep: Hot shower, Stirling Charcoal Facial Soap, Proraso Green Pre-shave cream
Razor: Razorock SLOC
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Soap: Haslinger Marigold
Brush: Thater Synthetic
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
Aftershave: Aqua Velva Musk

Tonight was also my first try with Haslinger Marigold. I've used the Haslinger Schafmilch for a while now, and the Marigold is pretty much the same in terms of performance. The scent is very light, so if I had to choose one, it'd probably be Schafmilch. But it provided a nice slick surface upon which the SLOC could glide. I like the thin profile of the razor, which got right up under my nose on the WTG pass. And the razor provides great audio feedback on the cutting angle, which is reinforced by the slotted cap. If you ride the cap or the bar, you leave a trail of lather behind, so the proper cutting angle was easy to find and maintain. It was a very smooth shave with the new Astra SP, but it didn't get quite as close as the Envoy or the Timeless up under my jaw line. It's definitely a razor that is a good bargain, although I'm not sure that, visual feedback aside, the slotted cap provides any real advantage. No irritation, and a little Aqua Velva Musk finished things off. Now to try and relax for the evening with another night of classic radio baseball and more progress on my project to read the entire 28 volume, 54 years of Chester Gould's Dick Tracy. I'm on Volume 1, 1931-33.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

my project to read the entire 28 volume, 54 years of Chester Gould's Dick Tracy. I'm on Volume 1, 1931-33.
Sweet! Is the series as retro-techy as the 90s movie? That was my only experience of Dick Tracy, despite the corniness, I actually liked it a lot!

The early years are pretty crude gangster melodrama. Very violent. The retro-tech stuff starts up in the 50s. I got turned onto the strip in the 70s, right at the end of Gould's run as writer, and collected the few paperback reprints of some 1940s stories. They began publishing the entire half century run about 14 years ago, putting out two volumes a year. I've been collecting them as they come out, cans there are still two volumes to come. I figure I can get the 26 existing volumes read by the time the last two come out. Premium reprints of vintage newspaper comics are the other thing I collect besides shaving soap and Aftershave. After I finish the Tracy books, I have 50 years of Peanuts to read. 3017ing them, so to speak!

Interesting read. I'm about 33 books into the 160+/- books of the Doc Savage pulps. It's fun reading, just read and enjoy them for what they are.
I love the Doc Savage books! I've only read about 10 of them, in reprints from the original magazines, and a few that ive bought in paperback editions. They're great, riveting reads. He and his crew are great characters.

A mid- afternoon shave today before a Zoom call with old friends.

Prep: Hot shower, Stirling Charcoal Facial Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Timeless SS
Blade: Astra SP
Soap: Stirling Bergamot Lavender
Brush: Parker Long Loft Badger
Post-Shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Cella ASL

I shaved early ( for me) today because I had a 4pm CDT Zoom call with some old friends from high school. The shave was serene and uneventful, a four pass BBS. I like the Bergamot Lavender, although I'm not getting any Bergamot, only lavender, but it smells good, and performs great. So after I shaved and cleaned up, I grabbed my phone and logged into Zoom. I joined the meeting, but had no audio. I fiddled with the settings to no avail. Then I went to my Linux laptop, but the audio was garbled. Then I tried my Win10 laptop, only to remember that it has no camera. So I was foiled. Very frustrating. I've ordered a webcam, so next time I should be able to participate. I'm concerned about the phone audio though. I've never had a problem before. I hope my phone is still functioning.

Thanks for reading! Have a great shave!

Bummer about the meeting fiasco. Hope the new tech solves it!

Wait...4 pm is early?!

Someone should tell him itā€™s Saturday. Whatā€™s up with this meeting stuff?

It wasn't really a meeting, just some old friends catching up, or so it was supposed to be.

Another early shave today (for me).

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Timeless .95 SS
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (2)
Soap: Martin de Candre Agrumes
Brush : Thater Synthetic
Post-Shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Fine Platinum

I'm getting the hang of the Timeless. A very smooth close shave today, with no irritation. I've got about a dozen soaps to try, but I really love the MdC Agrumes. The Thater makes it explode with lather! Four passes and a nice BBS. I finished with Fine Platinum Aftershave, which smells pretty classy. No one else will smell it, being stuck in my house, but I really like it. Another day, another great shave!

Thanks for reading! Have a great shave!
