Tried yet another new soap today.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Cella Pre-shave gel
Razor: Karve Brass OC B Plate
Blade: Vokshod (1)
Brush: Omega Pro 48 boar
Soap: Spearhead Experimental Tweed (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: PAA Irish Springs
Talc: Borotalco

Spearhead Tweed is a very good soap. The Tweed scent is assertive, and provides a good healthy aroma on my face. Slickness is pretty good, and residual slickness was adequate. It's definitely worth what I paid for it. I'm not wowed, but I'm happy. I nicked my upper lip with the Karve, my first nick in a long time, so that was a bummer. Out came the styptic, which took care of it. I got a four pass BBS otherwise, so I'm happy.

Gonna read some Doc Savage today.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

You’d better get a BBS after 4 passes! :p

What’d Doc Savage accomplish in today’s adventure?

Tried out a couple of new items today.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (4)
Brush: Simpson Berkeley 46 Best Badger
Soap: Barrister & Mann Seville (first use)
Post: Osma Tradition Alum Block
After-Shave: Captain's Choice Nor'Easter (first use)
Talc: Borotalco

I really like the B&M Seville! The scent is citrusy, with a richness that I suppose is the Oakmoss. I've never smelled Oakmoss before, so I can't be sure. The soap lathered easily and was plenty slick, with good residual slickness. The post shave face feel wasn't what I get from Stirling, CBL Premium, or CK-6, but it was fine. I'm not picky I guess! It's a good soap, but I probably won't buy another B&M soap. The Nor'easter was fantastically cooling. I've never used a CC splash I didn't love. It was great to return to the Diamondback. It's very simply the best razor I own, and it makes using the others feel like a compromise. I'm four pass BBS with no irritation, the alum was silent and cooling, and the Berkeley is a terrific brush. From stem to stern, today's shave was an unmitigated delight! I was sorry to see it end.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

A sunrise shave this morning with CBL Tonsorial California Sunrise.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Brush: PAA The StarCraft
Soap: CBL Tonsorial California Sunrise (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Pinaud Virgin Islands Bay Rum
Talc: Borotalco

The scent description for this soap is:

a floral mix of yellow flowers, lavender and blood orange brandy. The heart highlights bergamot, juniper berries and clary sage. Cedar, Tonka beans and vanilla provide a milky tobacco finish.

This is a testament to how unsophisticated my nose must be. For the life of me, I can discern none of this. To me it's a light, fresh scent, but man, try as I might, I can't pick out a single specific note from this soap.

I've never used Williams, vintage or otherwise, but I have to say that if CBL Tonsorial is a replica of Williams, then Williams must be, or must have been, one heck of a good soap! Tonsorial is easy to lather, plenty slick, and most importantly to me, has very good residual slickness. It is not at all drying, and is a great value! I'm really enjoying my tour of the CBL varieties.

The Diamondback did its usual magnificent job, and I think I've decided that the GSB is the perfect blade for it. This was a morning reset shave, after only 16 or so hours growth, and it was comfortable and irritation free. I'm BBS as the Sun comes up.

I was very close to pulling the trigger on a tub of SV Desert Vetiver, but I just can't justify the shipping. Maybe next month. I've spent my soap budget for the month.

I've been tagged to do a candlelight shave video. So today, I'm hitting the candle section at Walmart. Yes, I have no candles. Surely they'll have some cheap ones.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Nice shave Frank!

My interpretation is that Chris prefers his soaps to play second fiddle to any aftershaves/fragrances used.
And I think the scents in the Tonsorial line are more understated than those in the Premium.

Insomnia. 3:40am. Might as well shave.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2)
Brush: Simpson Berkeley 46 Best Badger
Soap: SV Cosmo 4.2 (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Jovan Musk AS (first use)
Talc: Borotalco

My sleep patterns are all screwed up and it only took a day of short naps to do it. My hope is that after writing this, I can turn off the light and get to sleep. Tonight I inaugurated the SV Cosmo. Once again, I fear my nose isn't up to the task. It has an aroma, but it's very light, and completely mysterious. It's pleasant. Like a bookstore. Yes, that's what I get. New books. I used to work at Barnes and Noble, so I know that smell. This isn't so much exactly that smell, but it reminds me of it. I'll have to check up the profile and see what I'm actually smelling. I finished up with a classic, Jovan Musk. It was my first time with it as well, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is not what I figured deer knees would smell like. I'm sure there's not actual musk in this stuff. It was too cheap. I bought it at CVS with a coupon. So I'm smelling it up, and now I'm going to try and hit the hay. Good night Cadre!

Frank

P.S. Have a great shave!
