Not quite Music City USA

I slept really late, so it's a mid-afternoon shave today.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (3)
Brush: Thater Synthetic
Soap: CBL Tonsorial Roasted Oatmeal Stout (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Ogalalla Bay Rum with Limes and Peppercorn
Talc: Borotalco

The showstopper standout of today's shave was the CBL Tonsorial Roasted Oatmeal Stout soap. This scent is amazing! No complaints about the performance, but I just reveled in the aroma. It was great off the puck, and lathering each pass just renewed the pleasure of smelling it. I felt like I was taking a chance when I ordered this one, but it really paid off. I also love the Ogalalla Bay Rum with Limes and Peppercorn, but I'm going to stick with the Stout for a few days I think, just because I enjoy smelling it so much!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Frank

So I was all psyched up and had researched and plotted for my MLB fantasy league draft tonight. I just got this email:

Hello,

Unfortunately, we were unable to draft players into your public league scheduled to draft at Jul 9, 2020 - 8:00 pm PT because not enough managers joined the league prior to the scheduled draft time. As a result, we deleted this league.

Oh well. At least I know I get to shave in the morning.

I haven't had a two-day growth shave in months, and I've got a case of the dumps today, so I'm calling an audible and shaving tomorrow. Have a great night everyone!

Hope you feel better tomorrow Frank! Word to the wise...don’t use mentholated soaps or mint flavored toothpaste in your current state, it only causes the gag reflexes to kick in while you’re on the pot :)

Yikes! Maybe I should have said I was mopey!

My favorite preshave

One of my daily victories, when I'm depressed (bipolar, Type 2), is shaving even though I don't feel up to it. Proraso Red Pre-shave cream is a vital part of getting me going because I love the scent. On those days, I'll often use the Red shaving cream as well.

How do you like the brush? I have had my eye on it.
It's an incredible value. I have two PAA Synthetics, the Starcraft and the Atomic Rocket, and I really like both. They are very soft, and although they don't have the backbone of some brushes, they aren't limp by any means. The Atomic Rocket has a bulb knot, which I prefer, but both brushes are so cheap, I'd recommend getting one just to try them out and if they're not your cup of tea, put them on the BST.

I wish I had some of that. This new stuff is no where near the same.
I completely agree. It's the only vintage AS I own. I splurged on some NOS. It's what my Father wore, and on that point alone, I justified the expense.

Hope you were able to push through the funk. I have my days...and sometimes it's hard. Not that I am comparing myself to you. Just know that the Cadre is really good at listening...so if you need an ear...please don't hesitate to PM me or another member. Sorry about the fantasy league also...I have a feeling there are a lot of people in the same boat.

Thank you for the kind thoughts. I really appreciate it. The Cadre is a very special group, and I feel fortunate to have found it!

This morning I woke and went right to the den.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Schick Krona
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (2)
Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Soap: CBL Tonsorial Rock The Casbah (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Stirling Satsuma
Talc: Borotalco

Yesterday was a downer, but I'm feeling better today, and the shave helped a lot. Rock The Casbah is an interesting soap. It performs well, but the scent is mystifying. It says on the website that it has nutmeg, patchouli, musk, and warm Woody notes. I'll be honest, I get none of these. It's almost as if, should these scent notes be present, they are cancelling each other out. I really can't identify anything. Out of all the soaps I own, this one has the least scent. Very strange. It's a good soap, but I'll probably use it in Winter. The Krona gives me a great shave with the Personna. Smooth and comfortable. And I brightened things up to finish with a splash of Satsuma AS, which I am presently enjoying.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!
