@BarberDave made a candlelight shaving video that I watched on the edge of my seat. He and I had polar opposite shaves...

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Nacet (2)
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: Saponificio Verisino Opuntia
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Ogalalla Bay Rum
Talc: Borotalco

This was supposed to be a shave before bed, taking place around 4:00am. It's Sunday, my super-luxury day, so I went with the SV Opuntia/Diamondback/Chubby combo. I bloomed the soap while I showered. I didn't use any Pre-shave, so my nose could relish the Opuntia scent, undistorted by anything else. The soap, which I already liked, really got dialed in tonight. Everything about it was superior, especially the slickness and residual slickness. I got a four pass BBS shave with no irritation! Then I applied the Ogalalla and talc, cleaned up, and retired to my bedroom. There, upon checking my phone, I was notified that @BarberDave had posted a new video. I immediately decided I would watch it before sleeping.

Dave's videos are great. Great pacing, smooth delivery, and a mastery of the equipment that is a pleasure to behold. I watch them all. This video is a stunt shave video by candlelight, with a straight, using an unbelievably awful soap, GFT Eucris. So the stage was set. I'll not go into details, but I strongly recommend that you watch it, as the behavior of the soap is truly unlike anything I've ever seen. It's actually remarkably bad, and Dave's battle with this soap must be seen to be believed.

I'm trying to decide if I want to do a shave video. It could be fun, especially here, because everyone is so supportive. Even the smack talk is clearly all in good fun. I'm just not sure if I have enough to say. What I might do is make it, then watch it with a critical eye, and take the decision as to releasing it.

Ok. It's 5:30, and Homer's rose-fingered dawn is stretching her hands across the sky. Time to put the phone down, and go to sleep to the sounds of the thunderstorm that's rolling through the county.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Go for it with the video! I am terrible some days about getting it going and just not having much to say when the camera is rolling. It's easier when the shave itself is already out of the norm like the stunt shaves since then you are not going to just fall into your normal shave mode as easy.

The other thing is that if you can just fill pass 1 with some talk you can then make the rest of the video time lapse to the end like dave often does and i have done. I'm sure others have too and i'm just not remembering. Mostly just give it a go and have some fun with it!

Just do 1 and post it. We all start somewhere and remember our 1st ones. many times I had little to say and certainly less that was of value but we like to see each other shave. Bet you do great. Don't trust your critical eye.....

I guess I'll give it a shot then! I'll just need to figure out the best way to mount the phone. Thanks for the support! I guess I'll need to get a video production app.

you don't have to get fancy with it if you don't want to. I use power director on my phone because i can save a template with my intro and outro but @Dave in KY just uploads the raw video to you tube. as for filming, i just have a tripod with bendy legs and a suction cup hook.

I've already dug out my camera mount, and I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow. Too late for today, I'm afraid.

Thanks Frank, and it was indeed horrible, my face is still paying the price, LOL... What we do for challenges. This one ranks up there to the one when I shaved with Cheese Enchiladas, hehe. As everyone as mentioned , just go for it, but be advised the videos can become addicting to do, but a ton of fun, Thanks Again

Way to go Frank! Luxury shave indeed.

Glad you’re moving forward with trying a video! It was pretty awkward for me too at first. Now I’m at over 100 videos and have garnered a name for myself as unofficial obnoxiously long video length king. :ROFLMAO:

Well, I tried setting up my phone camera to do a shave video tonight, but I'm going to have to order a mirror mount to get a decent angle, so it's ordered.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Green Pre-shave cream
Razor: Q4 1953 Canadian Tech
Blade: Gillette Platinum
Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Soap: CBL Barbershop (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Fine American Blend
Talc: Borotalco

The Tech did its job, for the most part, and gave me a close almost BBS with almost no irritation. I think it's the new Gillette Platinum that made things a little rough. The FAB burned, as did the alum. No redness though. I'll return to the Diamondback/Personna Red tomorrow. I'm more than happy with the CBL Barbershop! I love the scent, and it is plenty slick, with great residual slickness. Everything was great except for the blade, I'm thinking. It could just be a dud.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!
