My story, I’m sticking to it. Bill

Evening Shave 9-14-22

Proraso Pre-shave
Proraso Sensitive Skin Soap
Simpsons Emperor 2 brush
Focus R28 Slim Al barber tool
Facon 1/2 DE blade (1)

Somehow after lunch today, I wound up developing a case of hives. I suspicious about the spray bottles of disinfectant spray laying around the cafeteria could have triggered it. Some of that stuff is not to be used around food and people carelessly spray it on the tables. I’ll be wet washing with water before eating from now on. This changed my shave plans a bit.

When I got home, I promptly popped a few Benadryl tabs, and applied hydrocortisone cream, then witch hazel for relief.

Went with Proraso sensitive skin soap. Other Proraso products joined in. I normally bowl lather but not today.

I am able to deliver low irritation risk shaves with shavettes most of the time, today included.

I had this razor out for some interested folks to try recently an one of the gents gifted me these Facon pre-cut blades on the return. The blade is a little less than my preferred GSB, but not to bad.

I like the low weight if this shave tool and the long reach. The geometry forces the ideal angle for efficiency.

Great shave.

I noticed the Focus chevettes (*beep beep* 🚗) when they came out a few years ago, but the price was fairly high compared to Parker et al, and they looked a bit unwieldy/awkward. Will you be doing a video review with it?

As for hives, blah. I'm allergic to idiots, so I understand where you're coming from with being subjected to things at work.

I can do a video one day.

The primary customers of Focus products are professionals in Italy.

I have a couple of the model R21 Evolution that were in the under $20 range. They, like the Slim Al present a recessed half DE blade with corner guards.

Oh man! Glad your allergic reaction wasn’t more serious. You might want to check-in with the cafeteria staff about that.
I’m usually not prone to that type of reaction.

I probably should have used the term ‘lunch room’.

The company restricted the area at the beginning of COVID times and only opened up with restricted numbers and table sanitizing instructions.

I’ll be seeing to having some Benadryl in my locker tomorrow. Surprised that there was none in the First Aid kit.

Utilitarian evening shave 9/20/21

6/8 ZY 430
Omega Boar Brush
Work-off Soap mug
Aqua Velva AS

As I was taking my post lawn care shower I wasn’t even sure I’d shave today.

I grabbed an early honing trainer that I had not used in a while. I used a little too much pressure on the first pass and had to remind myself to stay low and light going forward.

At the end of 3 passes I was getting ready for the 1/2 pass cleanup I do on parts of the neck and decided to try that edge trailing cleanup move that I saw @BarberDave do. I had also seen @Majorrich making the same so I knew it had to be worth trying.

I’m not sure I got as close as I can going edge lead, yet, but it sure did leave a nice feeling finish. I gotta work on this one some more. Thanks for sharing that one guys.

Finished up with the Aqua Velva over lacquer, which always will remind me of my dad.

Have a great week gang.

This might sound weird, but after learning open blade shaving, I found it difficult to get shaves I wanted with my Gillette New SC.

I used it exclusively for a month to get my skills with that tool tuned up. Everything has a learning curve, just some more than others.

Böker 6/8 Extra Hollow, Mother of Pearl tang.

All day long I was admiring how great my skin felt after trying part of @BarberDave ‘s signature move for final neck cleanup. I continued and expanded today. Just to show what a shameless thief I am of techniques that I like, I am registering the move “Bill’s Buffing and Backblading”©️.

I had some concern that such a move could have a tendency to roll the edge a little. Having done my preshave “Hanging Packing Peanut Test”©️, I knew that my edge was pristine at the start. Sure enough after the shave, the effortless push cut was missing. It was restored easily enough by a little strop work.

I’ll be working more with this technique. It is really nice.

Oh, the razor. I looked at this one a long time because I have a vintage piece with the MoP tang cladding I like. It has some etching on the spine an is scaled in Bog Oak. It has a very thin grind that I like. I took delivery with a factory edge, which was shavable, but I wanted it refined more. Before honing, I marked the edge with a sharpie. My initial hone contact was on the edge indicating that Böker would be using a smaller curvature on their stones than I am. Quite a nice shaver.
