Modern Williams

Well, I have to say that my Tabac-stickified Williams is performing markedly well here on the southern tip of the Baja peninsula in Los Cabos. Must be differences in the water.

I can now see why some say Williams is easy to use, but it’ll probably go back to yucky stuff when I return home.

Again, the secret to modern Williams is to soak the puck in hot water while you shower and use a good modern synthetic brush like YaQi. It will bring this ol' "warhorse" back to life with scads of good lather. Guaranteed. ;)

I've been using synths all this year (Yaqi Sagrada and Chubby2) with poor to mediocre results at home and solid results for a week in Mexico, @Bogeyman . Based on the resulting lather differences due to locale/water, I'd say that my town water is a key factor in Williams being yucky. And, no, I'm not going to be buying distilled water for shaving as a work-around. 😋

For a soap to be good in my book, it needs to function without any voodoo magic or special treatments.

Must be the Coriolis effect. :geek:

Seriously, where I live the water is harder than a hooker's heart and I have no trouble at all. Usually when people have trouble with a good synth like a YaQi they are starting with the brush too wet. Just start loading with a damp brush. I need maybe five seconds of loading at most with a YaQi and get enough for three passes from almost all soaps if needed. I add water during face lathering. You are face lathering, right?

I use Williams as a stick, applying a good amount to my face. Then I use a damp brush (a few flicks to remove most of the water) and bring lathering, dipping the tips when needed. My routine is the same, whether at home or traveling, but very different results when in Mexico, both in speed of lathering as well as quality.

So my modern Williams finished this morning. I suspect you all know the verdict (even though several may not agree with it: PASS (n)

granted, it's not as bad with a synth as with a badger/boar for me, but it's still not up to snuff. My trip to Mexico with it showed my why some people really like Williams shave soap, but alas, I don't live in Mexico. 🤪

That said, I do have one more puck in my stash and will use it as soon as my 3017ing of Pitralon shave soap finishes; that adventure begins tomorrow.
