Longhaultanker Videos

This video is dedicated to the beginner straight razor shaver. I took my very first razor, a Gold Dollar 208, and refreshed it on my first hone, a Norton 4000 / 8000. I used my first brush and soap set, a Van Der Hagen beginners’ set with ceramic cup. The results today were much different than seven years ago… much to my delight. Enjoy.

Starting out as a beginner and moving on to experienced using nicer tools is part of the journey, and let’s not deceive ourselves, we all want a nicer razor, brush, soap, stone. Here is a video of me with my pinnacle equipment. I hope you enjoy.

Head shave and application of the refinements to follow.

Tonight’s shave comes by way of Sonora, Texas at the Loves truck stop. The shave was nice, not great. Razor needs touching up. The Midnight Lavender soap from Angora Soaps was adequate. The Simpson brush was the star tonight. Enjoy.

Nice shave Leon, I dig all these pretty new 6/8 razors you have. Some day I’ll pick up a few myself, but for now I’ll enjoy living vicariously through your videos. I’m a massive lavender fan myself and really love Mike’s Hungarian Lavender. The Angora Midnight Lavender from this evenings shave looked very luxurious. I too like a stronger scented lavender soap, but I enjoy all variations on the lavender theme. Safe travels buddy!

Tonight’s Wacker was an 8/8. I too enjoy lavender. So far Stirling has them all beat, including MdC original. Thanks for watching. I’ll add, Angora’s soaps lather up thick and rich. That one I’ve got, Muir Woods, still smells like wax. The other two are fine.

I love that razor!
Shaving with a beautiful piece always makes things better even when the edge needs attention.

The current models have the hinge pins set back a little more than I like.

Have a safe trip.

With delivery scheduled for Wednesday at 0600 I’m laying over here in Coachella, CA for a 34 hour restart of my DOT driving hours. I’m two and a half hours from delivery which will make for a very early “go” time Wednesday. I’ll have a short day Wednesday if I have a back haul because I’ll go over to the LA Wash Rack once empty. Always interesting there. In the meantime, enjoy tonight shave video.

Reveille at 01:30. Rolling at 02:35. Arrive delivery 05:30 prompt for a 06:00 scheduled appointment. They took me immediately and I was out at 06:40. Unbelievable! Normally two plus hour to unload. Over to LA Wash Rack for trailer tank wash. Video commenced 08:30. I’ve had an early and full morning. I’m either ready for some more, or I’m about to crash. Let’s watch the video then I’ll decide… if I make it through it!

Load Friday 13:00 here in LA to Fort Smith, Arkansas. More later.

I’m out of California headed to Fort Smith, Arkansas. I like going to California, but I love getting out. Much the same way I feel about Canada. Like going, love getting out. I had a great shave last night. Have a look. Enjoy.

The French have really made my day today. I soaked the Martin de Candre in hot water during my shower which might have made a difference from the first useage. The lather was creamy and dreamy. The new brush may have made a difference too. How do I introduce what is probably the greatest shaving brush I have ever held in my hand, or ever will? Here it is, the Plisson High Mountain White 28/30 mm (size 20) shaving brush. I am without words. The Thiers Issard Spartacus shaved it all fabulously clean. Watch and enjoy what I experienced.

You cannot be embarrassed by that price! If you want something that nice and you can afford it, why the heck not! I hope you enjoy it for a long time
and sell it to me for a severely reduced price when you want to get rid of it
.

What I can afford this month, with all the home improvement store expenses.... lol

Yes, the Plisson was very expensive, and under normal circumstances I likely wouldn’t afford it. The circumstances, however, weren’t ordinary. So indulgence reigned. What a shave today! The MdC Vetyver was extraordinary. Have a look see. I gotta say, the Plisson didn’t lose any bristles in the first usage, and for the price it damn well shouldn’t have!!! Same was true for this second useage.

My wife and I are making our plans to attend TSC convention in San Antonio next April. It’s in our backyard, three hours away. How could we not attend and I call myself a good TSC member. I’m all in.
