Let's All 3017... 2020 CBL Tonsorial Edition!

Dave, I’m not rinsing the excess lather off the puck just for the sake of the 3017, in an effort to use it up faster. .... that’s how I use my soaps. I always rinse the lather off, every time. Because normally I will only use a soap once or twice and it goes back on the shelf, I like to start with fresh clean soap every time. So, this is representative of how I normally shave. And, I also do it, because I have so much soap, that it helps me get through each tub a little faster. Yes, wasteful. And I never understood why people did that when I first started out, but now that I have a ton of soap, I get it and have adopted that into my routine.

And for the record...... I do scrape the lather out of my tub and apply to my face, as a lot of people do, so the amount of lather I’m finding out is minimal. Here’s my puck from today just prior to rinsing.

I'm with you @Spider , I clean the lather out too, on the very (very) rare occasions I puck lather. I typically wipe it with a cloth, though. Is there any distinct advantage of rinsing as opposed to wiping? Thanks.

I don’t know.... I’ve only ever rinsed. I guess wiping is going to just remove the excess lather, where rinsing is going to also wash off a small layer of the soap’s surface. If that make a difference?

Did a shower shave this morning with the Insurgent for shave 3. It did really well and I actually got a ridiculously good shave considering it was purely by feel.

I'm glad the shower shave worked well for you. I got a suction cup mirror to go in there and that helps make sure you don't have any accidents. Somehow it saves me 15 minutes or more each morning. Did you find it saved you time as well?

I’m surprised a few of you have stuck with it beyond 3 days...good for you. Believe it or not my fave has seen a lot of tonsorial soap these past few months, and a lot of it has been unscented. I will confirm for those that suspect it is the case that lightly blooming blooming rinsing the puck between uses both increase loading efficiency and can help with building lather but when the puck it is intact the way it is you aren’t going to see a huge change in how fast the soap is consumed.

Nice marketing ploy 🤪 ;)

Razor: Merkur Progress
Blade: Voskhod (2nd Shave)
Soap/Cream: CBL Premium Soap - CBL Tonsorial - Balsamic Oud (5th Shave)

The Penultimate Aftershave: Humphrey's Lavender Witch Hazel
The Ultimate Aftershave: Aqua Velva - Ice Sport

Okay, since there was recent discussion in the CBL 3017 thread about blooming the soap...I went ahead and bloomed today! I am not usually one to bloom soap...but after today's shave, maybe I should. It makes sense that blooming the soap would improve loading and probably lather-ability...but I think it actually improved the whole shave! This soap after a nice bloom, produced one of the creamiest lathers I have ever had in a soap. And because it was super creamy, the rest fell into place...slick, a lot of cushion and protection, and even residual slickness was better. Today's shave was a definite winner! DFS++ for the Don!

I bloomed it today on the recommendation as well and can see how it helps loading. I failed to mention that. Nice stuff Don

Continuing with January dualsoaping and back to the CBL. The more I use this the more I like it.

I've got a Charcoal Good Lvl 2 on loan from a friend, and it's given me some outstanding shaves. It's heavy to me, and about at my limit for aggressiveness, so today I did an experiment, using the CG top cap on a NEW. It really brought the NEW to life. A great, but not too aggressive shave was had. I'd almost consider buying just the top cap.

I did pretty much the same thing I did yesterday. No blooming. I've never had any problems loading or lathering, so I'm a little concerned that I'm missing something, but at the same time it's not broken so I'm not gonna fix it. It is what.....it..............is.

@CBLindsay thanks.

I'm including @Spider as he's the one who initially pointed me to it (Thanks!).

So rinsing does help? Thinking on this, and yes I do have too much free time I guess, it probably draws moisture deep into the puck for further lathers?

If a soap is soft enough I currently scoop it, bloom it, lather, etc in my bowl. If it's too hard (RR WTP soaps, for example), I lather and wipe it clean. Maybe I'll wash it clean in the future. At least for those I have to puck-lather.
