Let's All 3017... 2020 CBL Tonsorial Edition!

...but I think this soap has better post shave qualities than I previously gave it credit.

That's what I'm finding too Don. I was taking to my shave buddy about it today in fact. I'm starting to put it up there with T+S for me even, which is pretty pretty pretty good.

I honestly think, in part, it's due to something @GearNoir mentioned, and that's how strongly the base scent comes through. To me it smells a lot like the bar soap I use back in the day, which I associate with any but good skin care.

In any case I'm also liking everything about the soap more as I continue to use it. And at the end of the day I suppose that's why I decided to go for this dual soaping month. It gives a great opportunity to really learn a soap.

Today was a really great shave.

Pre: Hot shower/splash of cool water/Stirling unscented pre-shave oil
Razor: Rockwell Model-T @3
Blade: Crown SS (4)
Bowl: Fine Lather Bowl
Brush: Yaqi 24mm R1818 Aqua High Mountain Silvertip Badger
Soap/Cream: CBL Tonsorial Money BETA (19)
AS 1: 365 Everyday Rose Petal Face Toner + Lucky TIger AS & Face Tonic
AS 2: Aqua Velva Sensitive 5-in-1 ASB & Lucky Tiger Disappearing Cream
AS 3: Pinaud Clubman
Fragrance: none

This puck had 2 shaves on it before January, but I am not sure that anyone would have been able to tell. The puck does feel like it is getting a little smaller, but visually it doesn't look like it. It is starting to dish but it still looks like a long way to the bottom of my Old Spice mug.

I haven't weighed my puck, so I have no idea when I will finish But, something @Spider said above resonated. I have been blooming the puck every day, but I don't think the soap holds onto water very well, which fits with KJ's assertion about it being highly variable. This morning's shave was the best one I have had yet with CBL Tonsorial. It also happens to come after leaving about 1/4 inch of water sitting on the puck starting from when I finished my shave yesterday. The puck expanded a bit overnight and and soaked up most of that water. The loading today was much easier than on previous days. This soap really does behave very much like Williams does for me, except it produces a better lather than modern Williams. I may need to give it a couple more overnight soaks because today's shave was off the charts good.

Interesting stuff Doug

The tonsorial I may get a slight base smell from. For the most part I was speaking, when I did say that, about the premium wagyu base, which I definitely get a distinctive base smell from. Just for clarity’s sake.

Right, the base scent isn’t nearly as strong with the tonsorial.

Y'all, I haven't been posting here, but I'm still shaving. I think. I suppose I would've been fired by now if I weren't. :ROFLMAO:

I've been getting better at using it too. I experimented a bit with adding water to my lather and was surprised at how much it can take before I realized that I needed to hurry up and shave.

Some of the angles of your pics show that razor in an interesting light. This pic makes it looks as if that base plate has some significant heft to it!

I used my "Money" version of this again today. It's the Plain Jane unscented one. It's not big enough for the tub I have it in so I just merely hold it in my left hand and with my synthetic brush in my left I load the lather. My "flat bottom" Tech was loaded with a new Chinese Gillette Goal Super Platinum for a remarkable shave. These bonafide Chinese Gillette blades (beware of fakes) are every bit as good as the Russkie ones. Probably the best shave soap for the money nowadays. (y)
