If you have to do something...

Open Blade Shave #208:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (3), Gillette Slim L4 (setting 2), Sheffield Super Stainless blade (6), RR Big Bruce synth, William’s soap (modern; as preshave prep), Vito’s Extra Super soap, generic witch hazel, and Bootlegger’s Bay Rum to close!

Pretty good shave today after dropping the kids off to school. Let the missus sleep in a bit while I did both.

The Williams did indeed add a nice initial slickness in prep. It was certainly a lot nicer lathering up the face with that than simply splashing water. Everything seemed sufficiently hydrated to boot.

The missus noticed the soap this morning by scent as she was getting ready during my shave. She has also noticed the last two days of my AS choices. This is a huge change, she usually does not comment or react at all! The Vito’s she immediately identified as my “food” soap, then the BBR she noted as cinnamony - but “definitely not bay rum” when I told her what it was. Kinda funny!

Went out for a date breakfast to a local spot called Orphan. Coffee Con Panna and a breakfast tamale plate (with avocado slices - KJ would be proud) was my pick; she had the same coffe choice but with corn flower blueberry pancake and rosemary potatoes (nice and crusted!).

Work later, should be an easy night.

OH and I’m ordering part of my Christmas buddy’s present! Exciting!

Happy Wednesday all!

Open Blade Shave #209:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (4), Gillette Slim L4 (setting 2), Sheffield Super Stainless blade (7), RR Big Bruce synth, William’s soap (modern; as preshave prep), DR Harris Sandalwood soap, generic witch hazel, Speick AS, and Fine Clean Vetiver to finish!

Good shave today albeit later than I would have liked. Today I am part of the rush of appointments and drop offs and random whatnots until I get off to work myself.

Typical 3 pass split today. Took a moderately wet brush to both the Williams for the preshave, post-shower, and also the DRH; both were already bloomed. Seemed to work well, though the DRH was a bit sloppy. Lather worked up much more quickly and took less time to thicken up. Sometimes DRH takes a bit of work for me. Great results all around though. The real test is always seeing hours later if I dry up too much. I try to anticipate that though with moisturizer when I can remember it.

Speick and Clean Vetiver pair excellently, even with Speick not fully dried down. I’m stinky fresh and ready for the day!

Dad’s PIF Box is pretty much all together now; still waffling on some items to chuck in from my den...letting go of stuff you enjoy is tough, even if it’s Dad!

Have a great Thursday all, we’re almost to the weekend!

Mr Noir, just curious are you still getting some irritation with the 3rd pass when you use the SS? Wondering if the ultimate goal is to go all three passes with it.

Depends on the day really and it’s all technique and planetary alignment. Some days I’ll get and easy shave, 3 passes, opens blade or not with zero or little irritation, some days it’s work, some days it just doesn’t at all happen as I’d like. In general though, most days I get away with only minor irritation on the sides of my chin, just below the mouth; that area seems most susceptible to razor burn and dryness on me.

I’m perfectly happy knowing I can accomplish a near perfect 3 pass open blade shave when I’d like to, but using DE is just easier and more convenient most days.

Does that answer what you wanted?

NIce good read. Never really thought to pair vetiver and speick but I can see how that would work! I am going to have to try that.

Thanks Chad! Do try it! I think Clean Vetiver would pair just a tad better than Fresh if you have it!
