If you have to do something...

Nice Chris. Glad you and the SS kissed and made up.

Thanks Dave!

Ha. My bad. Looks like you missed being labeled a Millennial, by what... 1 year?

You have me according to lists, but I quite disagree with those who list 1980-2000 in the same “generation” (I think the categorization/labeling of such huge generational chunks is quite a flawed idea anyway). There is and has always been a huge difference between those born in the 80s and those born in the 90s, much more the later 90s.

I tend to agree. I actually think 1980 thru 1993 should be its own generation, and the only reason I say 93 is because that makes them 8 years old when 9/11 happened. And at age 8 kids are just starting to understand and comprehend the world around them.

Open Blade Shave #196:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (10), RR Game Changer, Voskhod blade (5), RR Big Bruce synth, Proraso Green soap, Alum block, generic witch hazel, and Barbasol Pacific Rush AS to finish!

Typical 3 pass split between razors today, nothing fancy. Both blades in the razors have fully hit their stride in smoothness and cutting edge. No blood loss or irritation to speak of.

My major goal this A.M. was to use the Barbasol PR, so I tailored my shave toward that end. I knew it was a mentholated AS, so I figured the Green would fit the bill nicely, and it did indeed! Green lather was on point this morning (sometimes I load a tad too much and it comes out a bit thick), slick, cooling/numbing, and oh so refreshing.

This was my first use of the Barbasol PR. The menthol kick is quite pleasant, a tad bit more cooling than the Green soap, but still many step down from Osage. This has what I would consider to be an aquatic scent. It opens as a bit medicinal, along Proraso Green lines, but soon a line of powder emerges, some of the clean herbal notes you’d get from Fine AB, and a clean hint of citrus. Very much worth whatever bargain price one can obtain it for! It still calming down at the moment, but I hope some longevity is there!

I’m at about 90%+ BBS right now.

Follow up note on the Bootlegger’s BR: The longevity and projection of the VIBR scent was not there. I think if I mix a full batch, it will be more VIBR heavy. Still, as said yesterday, further trials needed.

Got the two youngest off to school this morning while I took the oldest and the missus to an allergen appointment. The oldest is pretty much allergic to all of life at some level or another. He has a lot of issues with ticks, runny noses, and other congestion on a day to day basis, which is death for a new junior higher’s social life; so we are hoping to find a proper mix of medications that will allow him to function a bit more regularly. Today he got about a billion pole tests done...looked like he had small pox for a bit for how many began to raise. It’s all for the better though!

Have a great hump day all!

That Barbasol is good juice - especially for all of the dollar or two I paid at the store a couple years ago!

BTW, regarding bay rums....Have you used Captain's Choice Cat O' Nine Tails? If not, you need to!! I agree that the VIBR is good juice also, as is the bootleggers. Another one that is totally worthy, if you can find it, is the Dominica Lime. Oh, there's plenty of good bay rums around - I totally dig bay rum aftershaves - I should use them more often.

I hope that your son will find relief soon from his allergies, and your "missus".

Haven’t tried the Cat-o-nine yet, sounds good though! As for Lime scents, they haven’t grown much on me yet.

Oh man that sounds like a pain for your son. Hope they figure everything out.

I am jealous that Bay Rum is an A-OK in the household. The wifey hates any bay rum scent so none are held at the house. Like Chris stated, Cat o Nine from CC is pretty good. One of my favs when I had some in the den.

The idea of Bootleggers was to bring balance to the blend. The overly intense clove scent of VIBR, and the intense burning from the cinnamon, was not to a lot of people's liking. The overly sweet, and sticky feel of masters was also objective to some. The S70 is good and cheap and uses real bay oil, but also very one dimensional. The three together bring everything to the middle and make a perfect blend. The result is actually pretty close to Captain's Choice Bay Rum, yet at a fraction of the cost.

If you are desiring the burn and the clovey scent, then by all means, stick with the VIBR. I don't recall ever hearing your impressions of it, so I wasn't sure you liked that. I agree with Chris's recommendation to try Cat O' Nine Tails from CC if that is what you like.

I like Bootleggers for its skin feel though. The Superior and Master definitely add something to that end. I’ll play around with it some more!

I will add Royall to the list, it is the closest I have found to Dominica, and it is what started the Company, been around forever

Open Blade Shave #197:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (11), RR Game Changer .68, Voskhod blade (6), RR Big Bruce synth, Scheermonnik Delft Wit soap, Alum block, generic witch hazel, and Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS to finish!

Normal 3 pass shave today after dropping the family off at their respective places for the morning. not quite as good as yesterday’s shave, but I’m fending off some acne while trying not to flay the skin open, lol.

I tried to match the soap today with the AS, yet have some variety, it didn’t quite work. The off-the tub/AS bottle scents seemed to match, but after application the AV did not match well at all. It’s OK though, lesson learned for this combo.

Today was the first use of AV Ice Blue. I wanted to compare it to yesterday’s use of Barbasol. The AV feels pretty nice on the skin and has a great menthol kick. Upon application, it seemed reasonably similar to the Barbasol, just more powdery and a tad less aquatic. As the cooldown began, the heavier powder stayed but the aquatic died down and morphed into something that was actually a bit reminiscent of Old Spice to my surprise! Overall not a bad AS, though a bit too much on the powdery side for my tastes. I think Barbasol has it best in my book. I’m glad I got to try it though!

Work was busier than expected yesterday, just a lot of things going on, nothing difficult per se. Not much going on today I think.

The missus took our home laptop this morning to work on a paper, leaving me with not much to do; but it’s a nice quiet morning otherwise.

Working on revising the Frankenshave Lab thread to make it more of a knowledge base for homemade AS mixes. I think I’ve just about got a basic but satisfactory format down that I can tweak later if needed.

Happy Thursday all!

Went to finally go buy a Game Changer this morning and sold out! You have me convinced!

That's a good idea there

Good stuff Chris! You need to a build an AS cellar to properly age your brews. My wife didn’t like the Stirring or CC BR, but she loves the AA BR.

I have not tried an “aquatic” yet. But I have this mental image of salt, seaweed & fish. Hmmmm.
