If you have to do something...

It’s an odd thing, my facial hair. It has the strength of my Italian heritage and the sparsity/lack of fullness of my Chinese heritage.

That is why I try to remain clean shaven!

Free Shave Day:

Gear: GEM Jr., GEM blade (1), RR Big Bruce, Vitos Extra Super soap, Alum block, generic witch hazel, and Fine Clean Vetiver to finish!

Actually a really nice shave today; on par with my DE results for the most part! I’m at about 80%+ BBS after normalization. The GEM Jr. looks to be a keeper, as does the Vitos ES which whipped up a fine classic lather. Fine Clean Vetiver is another winner!

I’ll let the video do the talking.

Haven't watched the video yet. Does it explain what "normalization" is?

No. It’s what I call the process of your face/skin going back to its normal state after a shave. Just like you can’t always predict how a shave will turn out in the immediate post shave, particularly if not completely BBS, this is 30 minutes to an hour later when you know for sure. Once everything is absorbed, the skin/whiskers are no longer super hydrated, etc.

Nice shave and video Chris. Don't know why the blade would chatter or not feel rigid. Glad it works for you though.

Thanks for passing it along Dave. It really was a nice shave, I was expecting more difficulty. I’m not sure what it was either, it may well change with further shaves and familiarity. I just felt I wasn’t ready to test the razor’s limits yet.

Free Shave Day:

Gear: GEM Jr., GEM blade (2), RR Big Bruce synth, Wickham 1912 Club Cola soap, Alum block, generic witch hazel, and Stirling Black Pepper Lime AS to finish!

Good shave today, a half step better than yesterday’s even, in regards to level of shave.

The GEM Jr. performed quite admirably today. I have found it, so far, quite mild when used properly; you do know immediately though when the angle is off - either you aren’t cutting a darn thing or you really feel the threat of the blade edge. Thankfully no blood loss this time though!

The Wickham made a fine lather, I thought it quite fitting that both soap and razor have a 1912 connotation. The soap does leave my skin a little lacking in post shave feel, but nothing a little moisturizer won’t fix.

Today was my first use of the Stirling Black Pepper Lime AS. A very nice twist on a lime scent! The black pepper is quite out front, a sharp note against a semi-sweet lime base. This is my second use of a Stirling AS in total, and so far I am impressed. The scents I’ve tried are not quite as refined as Fine AS, but the available flavors are more “fun” seemingly, and similar longevity and strength seems to be there.

Back to work today and all the busy-ness that entails.

We have some interesting times ahead of us in the next few months. The missus is preparing to begin her return to attending university one night a week to get her bachelors. We will be down to one car for the next few months, limiting our travel somewhat, and perhaps utilizing some Uber-like service for a bit when important things come up (something I’ve kept from doing so far). The missus is also looking into a surgery for some quality of life repair which, if she did nothing, would mean continued limited activities the rest of her life. Surgery would at least give the possibility of normality, though it might take some recovery time. A strange juxtaposition of pros and cons.

The end of the year will prove interesting to say the least!

Have a great Tuesday all!

Geez Chris sounds like you have your hands full with the home life over the next few months. I am sure it is al going to work out for the best though.

Nice shave Chris. We're a sick group always looking to make connections with our shaves but I like the 1912 connection Hope all goes well for the wife if/when she has the surgery and quit using the big words for us non collegians (juxtaposition)

Thanks Chad! It does sound like a lot as it’s all in one post, but hopefully things get spread out a little. I think things will go fine too!
