Open Blade Shave #169:
Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (12), RR Game Changer, Super-Max Platinum blade (5), RR Big Bruce, SC Commitment, Alum block, generic witch hazel, homemade Brut AS decant, and vintage Avon Deep Woods frag sample to finish!
The name of the game today Avon Spicy has some real competition, but more on that in a bit!
Today was the normal 3 pass, 2 to the Feather and final to the GC. The Big Bruce and SC Commitment put up a nice lather for me to slather on. The SC soap is just a step lower for me than the Wickham soap. I find vegan soaps to be nice, but still have yet to get a tallow-like experience from it. The shave was good though, not too much Alum feedback and I’m mostly BBS.
Still continuing with the full line up of a post shave regimen. Some days it fits the bill perfectly, others I still dry out a bit and have to use moisturizer. I think it depends mostly on the soap used though.
OK, now on to the frag sample! Today I used Deep Woods. Let me say, much like the Spicy and Leather, there was a slight difference in scent from the rest immediately upon opening the packet. The Deep Woods so far has a very similar profile to me to Spicy, but with a nice, deeper woody note, not harsh wood, but mellowed. There is a slight sweet note in the background too. This one is a definite winner as far as the samples go! Is it better than Spicy? I’m going to say yes! Spicy is great as a scent, I love Old Spice, but part of its greatness is also wrapped up in nostalgia. Deep Woods is not that way for me, I like it completed for what it is.
Final Vintage Avon Sample Rankings:
1) Deep Woods
2) Spicy
3) Leather
4) Windjammer
5) Excalibur
6) Tai Winds
7) Blend 7
8) Bravo AS
9) Wild Country
I’ll be revisiting the majority of these just to use up the samples. Thanks again to KJ for the PIF!
Today is my hump day for work. Things have been busy as expected, but going well. The family has had a bit of a time adjusting to the first, regular, full week back at school. The oldest started middle school / jr high this year. The homework stresses will begin shortly I’m predicting. The kids are now split between two schools as a result instead of the convenience of them all being at the same one. So it means the drop off parent has to wake up that much earlier.
Yep we’re pretty much all in a state of adjustment for Fall. Hoping to find a healthy rhythm soon.
Have a great Thursday all!
