Open blade shave #166:
Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade(9), Gillette Fatboy, Super-Max blade (2), RR Big Bruce, DR Harris Sandalwood soap, Alum block, generic witch hazel, Lucky Tiger AS, and vintage Avon Tai Winds to finish!
Got up semi early today, though I’m still on call all day as Chaplain, we wanted to get out of the house for a little bit at least. We are headed out to a place in the hills called Apple Hill; it’s basically a giant area of individuality owned apple orchards that have banded together into a kind of countryside destination for everything apple. They make apple donuts, pies, jellys, butter, real ciders and juice, etc. There are tours, play places, you can pick your own apples and pay by the bag, and so on. A decent place to spend a couple of hours.
Still, I squeezed in my 3 pass shave. 2 with the Feather and 1 with the Fatboy. I chose to give the DRH another outing today, though I was a bit apprehensive about it. The last time I used it I had massive redness and irritation randomly, which lasted many hours; quite out of character for me. So far I do have some minor irritation but I think it definitely razor burn, surprisingly from the Super-Max, which is sharp, but feels like it may be giving out already? Not sure, it just wasn’t as smooth as yesterday. I’m going back to the Game Changer tomorrow, we’ll see if that improves things.
Lucky Tiger...very impressive product! The scent is primarily a nice burst of orange, not overly bright and overwhelming, but almost the darker hint of what you get of the citrus in an orange-chocolate mix. Ultra smooth and easy application, feels excellent on the skin! Deserves a hearty recommendation from this shaver!
Avon Tai Winds - opening scent is fairly close to the others, moderate powder note. As it cools down, I get hints of the lavender, musk, and powder. It is something that might pair decently with Pinaud Clubman, maybe even a heavily cut Veg (the Veg would easily overpower it’s scent). My feelings on it at this time are neutral. It’s OK, but I would not seek a purchase.
Vintage Avon frag sample rankings:
1) Spicy
2) Leather
3) Excalibur
4) Tai Winds
5) Blend 7
6) Bravo
One collectively good thing about all of these scents is that, from what I can tell, none of them are overpowering and none of them project out of your personal space. It could be a factor of the way they’ve aged.
Happy Monday all!
