Shave #238 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: RR GC .68 SB, Bic Chrome Platinum blade, Yaqi Rainbow synth brush, CBL Steel Grey Fougere soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Skin Bracer AS, and PR Phantom to finish!

Pretty decent day yesterday between meetings and patient visits. Went to a school “park day” for my youngest out at a spot overlooking the SB channel, a bring your own dinner and let the kids play kind of affair. Then we grabbed some ice cream from McConnell’s (our local Gunther’s/Marianne’s-type premium stuff, for those who know Sacramento/Santa Cruz).

OK, pretty much the same shave setup today for train wreck number 2 frag - Paco Rabanne Phantom. Fairly typical PR 1-million type opening - maybe a bit less muted but bright, citrus/appley. Shifted very quickly, within minutes to a weird musky/nutty vibe. A similar kind of nutty note you might get from Old Spice but nice as nicely done. Kind of a earthy, dried out nut husk/shell. All these notes seem fairly synthetic mind you. Another meh from me.

Hope y’all have a great Thursday! One more day!

McConnell's, yum!! :p
Yum indeed! Despite their exorbitant prices and small scoops…lol.

We actually went to Mission Street Ice Cream and Yogurt where the scoops are significantly larger for only a little bit more moolah. They serve McConnell’s 😍

You went to the best location, and the original. They built the State Street location a few years ago, also the one at the Fun Zone (touristy!), and gave a face lift to the one on Mission. Recently, we discovered at our Neighborhood Walmart that they carry a few flavors of McConnell's, Vanilla Bean and Salted Carmel. Have fun! You live in one of the best cities in the world.

Oh wow! Never bothered to look into the location history…that’s cool! 😎👍

Shave #239 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: RR GC .68 SB, Bic Chrome Platinum blade, Stirling 2-band synth brush, CBL Roasted Oatmeal Stout (the original!) soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Old Spice AS, and Stirling Glastonbury to finish!

Decent sleep but needed a little something extraordinary for the shave to kickstart my morning. Nothing quite like Chris’ original ROS! Such a comforting, yummy scent and it pairs SO well with Old Spice and Glastonbury. I’m a walking powerhouse of scent right now…I’m gonna be “that guy” in the office for sure. I keep meaning to check out more of Stirling’s EDTs this sample is, sadly, a spritz or two from oblivion but it’s been really great for that occasional patchouli bomb…but it’s got great staying power. If any of the others are like this, they’d be a worthy investment!

I did get a little bit of a helpful hint for my IDT meetings after the fact yesterday…I guess my notes are too in-depth for the meetings, because we have a very time conscious MD, lol. So I need to work on summarizing a bit better 😂

Looking forward to the long weekend! Happy Friday all!

Happy Friday Chris! Interesting to hear about the Stirling EdTs, shouldn't be surprised that they're good since their soap is some of the best!
I’ve only tried the one. I got it from the TSC 2nd Anniversary package but it’s pretty nice!

This is a scary thought. If we’re Chris’ life coaches, his season is about to go down in flames like a Philly sports team 😂😂😂
Thankfully I don’t out all my eggs in one basket and have multiple advisors 😂

Shave #240 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Colonial “Armored” General, Feather Pro blade, TH Taurus A synth brush, CBL Grassroots Lavender soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, CBL Barba AST, and YSL Rive Gauche to finish!

A little bit of extra sleep this morning but still up earlier than I would have liked. Oh well! Just means the missus and I get to go out for a late breakfast date.

Pulled out some heavy favorites for the shave today. Haven’t used the Armored General for weeks so it was nice to feel it’s comfortable weight and smooth glide on my way to BBS. CBL Grassroots Lavender soap and Barba AST need no introductions…great scents, superb performances. Gave a few spritzes of the ever precious YSL Rive Gauche to top it off.

The main focus of the shave was getting a feel for my new Trotter Handcrafts “Taurus A” (since my handle is a castoff from Paul’s Crab Nebula handle) synth. The Timberwolf knot is deceptive when it comes to loading…the knot seems to perfectly hide most of the proto-lather and TH Paul set the knot just a tad deeper than the majority of commercial synths are set, so it retains more soap and water than it looks like but still feels excellent on the face. Needless to say, one I started adding in water and building, I had quite a lather explosion lol. Another winning brush in my den. Not quite as soft as the Yaqi pony knot but just a tad more soft than the tuxedo. It set height keeps it from being too floppy. Well done!

Have a great Saturday all!

I've really started to prefer the lower set synths, so much less floppiness.

For the most part I haven’t minded it…but this is a nice change, while still being able to benefit from the softness, without reverting to the unyielding spring of the earlier gen synths.

Shave #241 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Colonial “Armored” General, Feather Pro blade, Yaqi Moka synth brush, SV 70th soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, SV 70th AS, and Guerlain Vetiver to finish!

A little sleep-in but still up at a reasonable hour to get ready for church.

It’s an interesting phenomenon, as a recently moved-in Santa Barbrian, that during holidays a good chuck of the locals travel out of SB while some more touristy folk come in. Our current feeling is pretty much why would you leave when you live at a vacationing location? Lol. Just funny.

Another great shave. Today’s focus was the long wanted, long awaited Yaqi Moka. It did not disappoint! Probably most similar to the pony knot (which I guess is my gold standard for knots) the only real difference I’d say is the shorter fiber length; it otherwise displays, as far as I can tell, all other shave characteristics. Great piece to add to the stable!

After church, we’re off to the beach for a picnic lunch and some water action.

Have a blessed Sunday all!
