OK, OK, ya got me...another reason I’m going to be painting for so long is so I avoid doing that inadvertently 😜

Shave #21 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Henson AL (Medium), Feather blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, CBL Money tonsorial soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and GFT Sandalwood to finish!

A bit groggy this morning but I’m up!

Nice shave per usual. May be time to swap out this Feather soon though. Decided to try my Proraso Red/GFT Sandalwood combo idea, not bad! There’s some differences but I think they jive well enough together.

After today’s shift I get a nice little stretch of 3 days at home. The main reason is because I needed Sunday off for teaching a confirmation class. It’s just as good an excuse as any though 🤷‍♂️😂

Have a great Thursday all!

Going back through my 12 Whiskeys of Christmas sampler in reverse order. First time through was neat, this time I’m adding a a few drops of water. Not changing my rankings though.

Tonight 1/3 of #9: Ardbeg 10 year Islay Single Malt Scotch

Well, if the last two peat/smoke heavy whiskies are any indication, I’m expecting a few drops of water to help out Ardbeg a bit!

Scent is definitely a bit brighter and the Sharpie peat smell is a bit washed out. Taste? Well...we have overwhelming peat and smoke now, still smacks your tastebuds around and burns on the way down. Again the lighter flavors become more fleeting and the stronger flavors get upped a level though they die down more quickly. The finishing bonfire/char is still there, just made wet rather than being more bitter. A nice woody finish settles in too the farther out you get from the last sip.

Tacking in my final rankings list from the initial tastings to add notes about whether I preferred them neat, with water, or over ice.

Shave #22 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Blackland Vector, Proline blade, SV/TSC Il Re Tasso d’Oro brush, SV 70th soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, SV 70th AS, and Guerlain Vetiver to finish!

Ahhh Friday! Slept in a little bit later than a normal work day but still had to be up in time to get the kids fed an in class. Note to self...giving the excuse to the missus “I guess I could do it but to be fair I did wake up at 5:30 all week” doesn’t work...so I did it 😂

Great shave. Brought out all the stops and went full luxury shave with the Vector, Proline, and SV gear/software. Simply. Excellent.

Not much happening today otherwise...may finally get some game time in!

Have a great Friday all...ya made it!

Tonight 1/3 of #8: Craigellachie 13 year Speyside Single Malt Scotch

Ahhh water makes this whisky present with a nice, bright fruitiness. If there’s any peat in here, it’s minimal or well hidden. Taste? Light oily malt, a punch of brightness and general whisky alcohol flavor, a good dose of fire, but it’s hard to pick out much else because of the brevity of slightly washed-out note qualitys the added water brings. The finish feels a bit juicy, yet has some lingering elements of dryness on the top of the tongue.

Gear: Blackland Vector, Proline blade, Paladin Harlequin Chief 26mm brush, CBL Grassroots Lavender soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Speick AS, and Penhaligon’s Sartorial clone oil to finish!

Great late morning shave amidst doing chores around the house.

Tonight 1/3 of #7: Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Ahhhh a pleasant surprise for this evening! Forgot this was in here! Water does the same for bourbon as it does scotch. The caramel, orange, and hint of vanilla are wonderfully pungent on the nose.

Taste-wise, the sweetness is pretty in-your-face. A shot of fire up front. The orange/citrus manages to just punch through the sweetness. A light oakyness and some spice on the finish.

Shave #24 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Parker Adjustable injector, Personna blade, Sorrentino TSC 1st Anniversary badger brush, CBL Hombres soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Encre Noire to finish!

Bit of an early wake up to get everyone ready for church. Great shave with great performing products and a heck of a frag to finish it off!

Just the confirmation teaching to worry about today, the rest of the day is pretty open.

Guess I’ve become a bit addicted to dice rolling, chance board games. Checking out one now called Dice Throne. Looks really fun...hefty price tag though...

Have a blessed Sunday all!

Tonight 1/3 of #6: Oban 14 year West Highland Single Malt Scotch

Slightly brighter and rich general “scotch” smell. Some fruitiness and a dry, apparently sea-salt-ish, note on the end.

Taste - hooooo that’s a mouth full of fire upfront, with some pretty smack-your-tongue medicinal tones. Spice. Some smokey malt on the back end.

Tacking in my final rankings list from the initial tastings to add notes about whether I preferred them neat, with water, or over ice. Woody/ashy/dryness on the aftertaste. The nice, rich, distinct levels of flavor from the neat tasting are totally gone. I think the neat tasting was far more interesting and worthwhile.
