Shave #11 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Henson AL (Medium), Feather blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and D&G Light Blue to finish!

Up nice and early to start the work week out right! The Corona virus day count officially is over now that I go back to work full time. Final total: 301 days.

Nice shave this morning. Popped in a twice used Feather into the Henson. Shave seemed much more smooth and like there was less “burn”, time will tell. Tried Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue...it’s OK. Nothing stand out like the rest of this batch of samples. Aquatics must be all the rage with the kids currently.

Have a great Monday all!

Shave #12 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Parker Adjustable injector, Parker blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Carolina Herrera Bad Boy to finish!

First shave with the Parker Adjustable injector this morning, with the included “Parker” blades (unbranded). Started out on setting 3 for the first pass. Ultra mild...even felt like I lost the angle a few times so that I wasn’t cutting any stubble except here n there. Bumped it up to 4 for the last 2 passes which helped some (the blade gap looked big, but it really wasn’t that bad). Still very mild. A quick look at the Parker compared to the Schick M adjustable appears that they are almost identical heads and blade holding mechanisms but the Parker just manages to be more mild for some reason. Still managed a barely BBS/barely DFS shave. I’ll try setting 5 tomorrow!

Have a great Tuesday all!

I heard that the Parker was supposed to be a mild injector. Crank it fully open and see how that goes. My guess is that it will not be aggressive/harsh at all.

Yep! That’s the plan for tomorrow. These off-brand (Personna maybe?) blades may also need swapping out for a Chick, as much as I hate to waste any blade. Ended up a little more DFS than I like. We’ll see!

Tonight is 1/3 of bottle #12 - Balvenie 14 year Caribbean Rum Cask Single Malt Scotch

Tonight’s sample is going to be taken neat. Tonight, before the taste, I had a dinner of a Red Meat Chili over rice (spicy/salted dish).

The final first-taste of our 12 sample tour! Gee...can you tell what Dave likes? If it weren’t obvious...scotch!

First, a few sniffs after the dram is poured...ahhh...nothing like the last three tastes, lol! Definitely smelling the rummy vibe out of the glass. Tasting notes help me identify - fruit, citrus, with a little toffee lurking in the background. Smells really tropical! Mostly I’m happy it doesn’t smell like Sharpie 😂

So what does Balvenie 14 Caribbean taste like? Pretty signature scotch flavor with some added fruitiness (apple maybe? and some orange) and a pretty crisp rum finish. A nice rum mind you! Not Zaya 😂. This is much less sweet and way more palatable...really smooth sip too!

A pretty good sip in all. Pricey! Probably not buy it but yet another example of how diverse scotch/whiskey can be. Definitely wouldn’t turn down an occasional taste! I think as far as novelty flavors added, Naked Grouse Blended wins for the kick, but that’s a different category! Let’s see...I think this might take 3rd for sheer smoothness of flavor and good taste!

Shave #13 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Parker Adjustable injector, Parker blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Encre Noire to finish!

Wednesday already?

Better shave this morning with the Parker. I certainly had plenty of stubble to work with and was feeling pretty scruffy. I feel like setting 5 is comparable to setting 2, maybe teetering on 3, efficiency on the Schick M. Still a bit more on the mild side (which is OK by me!) than the M and got me a nice shave (closer to BBS - real results will be known in a few hours). A little bit of irritation on the cheeks...I’m chalking that up to the blades (unbranded Personnas and I don’t get along well). Probably going to pop in a Chick soon, if I remember.

Most of yesterday’s shift was spent painting. Brushes and rollers and trying not to spatter myself 😂

Have a great Wednesday all!

Shave #14 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Parker Adjustable injector, Parker blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and CK Eternity to finish!

Setting 5 on the Parker has given much better results although very mild. Yesterday’s shave lasted what I would commonly expect from a good razor. Still some roughness from the blade. I think park of what makes it so mild is that it feels like the edges of the razor that have the tabs that hold the blade up into the clamp feel like they jut out a bit farther than they should, keeping your skin away from the blade, where on the M they are a teensy bit less pronounced but it makes a huge difference. The Parker feels like it’s cutting area is toward the center of the blade whereas the M can utilize most of the blade’s edge. Just a theory!

Have a great Thursday all!

Shave #15 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Tired!

Nice shave this morning. One of the best so far as far as the blade seeming to behave itself, giving very little burn. Soap ring is very thin. Looking some variety soon! At least I’ve had different frags to look forward to this 3017The post shave elixir still seems to have over half the bottle left, which is great; really loving the hydrating and replenishing feel of it after my shaves.

Looking forward to my day off tomorrow, even if I’m waking up early again to get the family out for a tripe to the snow!

Have a great Friday all! Almost there!
