If you have to do something...

Going back through my 12 Whiskeys of Christmas sampler in reverse order. First time through was neat, this time I’m adding a a few drops of water. Not changing my rankings though.

Tonight 1/3 of: Balvenie 14 year Caribbean Rum Cask Single Malt Scotch

Flavors are definitely opened up but also somehow not as rich. Definitely extends the firey kick a bit though.

Shave #16 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Parker Adjustable injector, Parker blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and TF Oud Wood to finish!

Day off...but up at the same time as if I’d be going to work.

Nice shave. We’ve reached soap DEFCON ring status level super. Couple shaves left maybe? Finished off with TF Oud Wood...yum!

Little bit of a trek today as we head out for some snow. One of my sister-in-laws and their family will be joining us. Still just a day trip though. Should be a nice day hopefully!

Have a great Saturday all!

Make a snowman! Have a snowball fight. Snow means forts and battles. Pro tip: garbage can lids make excellent shields.
We’ll see what we can get up to. We’re headed to an official spot in national park territory that’s supposed to have sleds and hill lifts for the kids.

Shave #17 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Henson AL (Medium), Feather blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Paul Sebastian to finish!

I’m beat lol. Long day yesterday (almost 6 hours of driving to make the day happen) but overall a great time with family at the snow.

Great shave this morning. Switched up the razor to the Henson. Feather I swapped blade in here is doing really nicely, better than the feel of the Astra SP in it I think. Probably one of the best lathers I’ve gotten from Barber Shoppe too, given that about half my lather building was just trying to load the brush in the tub (which seems to work better for this formula - tub lathering that is) so I could have enough to work with on my face.

Glad I get an extra day tomorrow to recuperate...I don’t think I could go back into another 5 day week right now lol.

Have a blessed Sunday all!

In these times, $60 a person ain’t cheap, but it’s a great investment in some joy. There’s precious little of that going around.

Tonight 1/3 of #11: Laphroaig 10 year Islay Single Malt scotch

Peat scent off the glass seems to project more but is not as “deep”. I’m figuring out that above all else, water lifts and strings out the individual flavors a bit more. Though even the mighty Laphroaig looses some of its intensity of flavor as the water weakens/waters down the flavors a bit. It’s a strange trade off. The peat, fired wood, band-aid-ish flavors here are more readily experience-able and it’s easier to pick out the major notes but the notes fade much sooner and don’t coat the tongue as much. It actually might make Laphroaig a bit more palatable? It’s a different experience of the same whiskey for sure.

Shave #18 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Blackland Vector, Schick Proline blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and GFT Spanish Leather to finish!

Got to reroll my Saturday! Nice sleep in (much needed), donut n coffee for breakfast. The donuts are from some downtown hipster spot that my wife really likes called Milk Money...to me, they are no where near the quality donut goodness of some of our Asian owned mom n pop donut shops (looking at you Stanely’s and Mr T’s). Oh well.

Very nice cleanup of the hair (trim) and face (shave) before getting caught up on chores. Brought in the Vector today with a fresh Proline. Wonderful! Finished off with a GFT Spanish Leather cologne sample...it’s OK, kinda what I expected I guess. I dabbed on maybe 1/4 of the little bottle and I’ve already lost the scent 30 minutes later unless I smash my nose up to my wrist. It was pleasant, old school, light leather, some florals, and a powered finish. Very classic I’d say...something you’d normally get out of a long standing European company like GFT, TOBS, or maybe even Avon, etc. Not bad but probably not a purchase either. I hope Sandalwood impresses a bit more. @ksblazer

Have a great Monday all...hopefully most of you got the holiday. I encourage you, if you haven’t taken the time to try and understand the historical plight of others, particularly minorities, give it a try. Such subjects may have unpleasant material to digest here and there but those things have to be dealt with, that’s life, unfortunately. You really do owe it to yourself to try, IMHO. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come...and how much work there is still to do.

Tonight 1/3 of #10: Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Islay Single Malt scotch

Here we go! Watered down Sharpie! 😂

OK, maybe not entirely. The water seems to slightly string out the scenting notes too. Smells a little more creamy after the peat hit. I get a little of the salted caramel. Taste-wise: Firey kick is upped a level but a bit more brief. The oak note is actually really pleasant once the peat taste subsides some. The smokiness isn’t as rich but it’s nice. Maybe a little water actually helped this whiskey a bit!

Thanks for the reply about the Trumpers Spanish Leather. Not sure that I'll be in any hurry to try it. I've never really cared much for leather scents. One that doesn't last longer than an aftershave isn't appealing either.

The Sandlewood lasts about 2.5 to 3hrs on me.

Shave #19 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Blackland Vector, Schick Proline blade, RR 400 synth brush, LNHC Barber Shoppe soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and GFT Sandalwood to finish!

Days off are over all too soon! Up early today to get a move on.

Not before a nice shave though! Back with the Henson AL again. Not much to clean up from yesterday’s late Vector shave but I went through the motions anyway and cleaned up whatever little there was to clean up. LNHC Barber Shoppe soap ist kaput! Still plenty of the post shave elixir left though, which is great!

Finished off with GFT Sandalwood. Not quite sure how to categorize this one. I do detect some sandalwood. It would probably go well with some Proraso Red soap/AS but there’s some strange notes mixed in. There’s a sweet, kinda musky fruitiness. When I first put it on it was a little lemony, just a touch toward Pledge. Thankfully that’s faded. There might be a little clove in here. Definitely a different take on sandalwood. Probably not a purchase either. At least this one does indeed seem to be lasting longer @ksblazer !

We’ve had a weird spurt of warm weather the last couple days (like high 60s/low 70s and sunny). Starting last night though it got back to being a bit grey with some winds whipping around a bit. Some rain later this week hopefully.

Have a great Tuesday all!

We had a warm spell as well but only up to the 40's.
Glad you had a good few days off.

Shave #20 (453 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Henson AL (Medium), Feather blade, Yaqi Sagrada Familia synth brush, CBL Money tonsorial soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Barbasol PR, and ADG Profondo to finish!

3017 accomplished...moving on to the next! OK not really...but I will be trying to finish this soap in relatively short order. There will be many “cheat” days though. Great shave with the Henson/Feather combo and nice wrap up with Barby PR and ADG.

Spent most of yesterday just painting...more painting today. Probably more Thursday too lol. Have a ways to go and I’m a perfectionist.

Have a great Wednesday all! Hump day already!
