If you have to do something...

Awesome, glad you had a good start Chris. Hopefully it keeps up. You should get a few shaves from half that tub.

I'm surprised you didn't get the boozy scent. I couldn't detect any peppercorn, persey, but I definitely got boozy and tobacco. Amazing how we all smell things a little different.
Sometimes scents open up a bit for me after a couple uses. We’ll see! Definitely enjoying it.
Sego base and Soloist scent = soap bliss for me!
Agreed. Sego base is very good!

Shave #317 (452 Open Blade Shaves) of 2020:

Gear: RR GC .68 SB, Bic Chrome Platinum blade, Paladin Harlequin Chief 26mm brush, Zingari The Soloist soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe blend, Stirling Barbershop AS, and Encre Noir to finish!

Corona Virus Official Day 242:

Back on the regularly scheduled horse for the rest of the week.

OK shave today, a couple things went sideways. Decided to try loading up Soloist with a badger today...and promptly ran into common soap sample issues, mainly the brush couldn’t grab enough from the smear in my bowl. Should have smeared in more (should have stuck to a synth too) but decided to go for it anyway. Lather was a little thin but still slick and passable enough. Face was still a little tender in a couple spots from yesterday’s nicks. Then disaster struck again on the last pass. Rounding the chin/jawline to get a couple stragglers, I gave a little too much pressure and gave myself a good half inch cut, not too deep thankfully but enough to warrant bringing out the alum block. Took a few minutes to stop bleeding. Topped off with some Stirling Barbershop AS sample and some dabs of an Encre Noir sample. Not exact matches for Soloist but Encre Noir at least matches the dryness of scent while spicing it up with a little gentle vetiver.

Some writing to do today and some kids keep in line.

Have a great Thursday all!

Shave #318 (452 Open Blade Shaves) of 2020:

Gear: Schick M adjustable injector, Schick Twin blade, Yaqi Sagrada Familia synth brush, Zingari The Soloist soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe blend, Lucky Tiger AS, and Tom Ford Oud Wood sample to finish!

Corona Virus Official Day 243:

Yay Friday! Up early to get the kids fed and in class. Had my morning cup o hot joe with a shot of egg nog in it for the seasonal flavor. Very nice.

Shave was much better today. Ended up deciding to use the Schick M afterall in hope of avoiding reopening my nicks and cut. Mission successful! Went back to a synth for what’s left of the half sample smear of Soloist in my bowl so had a much fuller lather today. The Soloist scent has opened up a bit for me; it’s a bit less muted than before (particularly using a synth) but I’m still not come in up with a boozy scent (unless it’s being synthetically simulated like AOS’ Bourbon cream, in which case there might be the slightest hint)...its mainly the peppercorn and tobacco still. It sets a nice, dry, warm, mellow backdrop to the shave. Great for woodsy/warm followup scents!

Writing to do today. Waiting to see how much rain is going to happen too as otherwise I need to start lawn watering.

Have a great Friday all! Ya made it!

Shave #319 (452 Open Blade Shaves) of 2020:

Gear: Gillette prewar Tech, Wizamet blade, Sorrentino TSC 1st Anniversary badger brush, AoS Olibanum & Pepper cream, homemade witch hazel/aloe blend, Fine AB AS, and Fine AB EDT to finish!

Corona Virus Official Day 244:

Got to sleep in a little bit. Yay! Then it was up to get everyone’s chores kickstarted.

Shave was excellent, despite me messing up the lather. Another sample from Paul, Art of Shaving Olibanum & Pepper cream. It pulled a disappearing act around the second pass but I still got through it. Wowza though, what a delightful scent! I was expecting typical heavy incense-like vibe that most shave soaps choose to represent frankincense...wrong! This scent is uplifting, fresh, and light. AOS may get a bad rap on many things...but most of their scents are grand slams! This one is definitely up there. Not a perfect pairing but close enough, topped off with the Fine AB combo.

Some chores to finish and may finally get around to Mandalorian since it didn’t work out last night. Did finally get a bit of rain yesterday which was very nice. Did get to watch the new British Baking Show episode. Good times.

Have a great Saturday all!

Shave #320 (452 Open Blade Shaves) of 2020:

Gear: Gillette prewar Tech, Wizamet blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, AoS Olibanum & Pepper cream, homemade witch hazel/aloe blend, Speick AS, and Perry Ellis Oud Saffron Rose Absolute to finish!

Corona Virus Official Day 245:

Up early for work. It’s only 40 degrees out...let’s do church! 😂

Fantastic shave this morning. Swapped in the pony synth, added a bit more to the cream scoop size, and away I went, firing on all cylinders this time! No disappearing act this time, just a gorgeous background scent to catapult me into shave excellence. Added a bit of floral to the mix as I topped off with Saffron Rose, an excellent, manly rose to my nose, with that string vibe of saffron. Yum.

Yep, we have folks signed up for our two services. Since we’re back in purple tier for the time being, that means we have to be back outside if we want to meet. Unless something major changes, I think this will last through the New Year. Still, we await with hopeful expectation for better. It is what it is.

Have a blessed Sunday all!

Shave #321 (452 Open Blade Shaves) of 2020:

Gear: Gillette prewar Tech, Wizamet blade, SV/TSC Il Re Tasso d’Oro brush, CBL Grassroots Lavender soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe blend, Fine Savon Lavande AS, and Enigma to finish!

Corona Virus Official Day 246:

Let’s do this!

Great shave this morning. Decided to take the shave back to a puck. Picked a gentle lavender theme with a slightly powder finish. No issues to report, thankfully!

Everything is pointing toward Thanksgiving now and figuring out how to muddle through the days to reach it. I get both that Thursday and Friday off (I mean my current schedule does that already but for the holiday it’s guaranteed). Definitely going to have some time with family, just not sure how/what yet.

Have a great Monday all.

Our families have cancelled everything this year. No Thanksgiving or Christmas gatherings. Just gonna be me, the wife and the dog this year. 😕

Sounds like a great shave, Chris! Hope you have a great day!

Dang it! That means you have to cook and do the dishes! At least you get all the pie to yourselves I guess...

Thanks Mark!
