Nice shave and have a great day. What's the difference between the SS and DX? I like the idea of Komisori style, is that the difference?

The SS has a little lip along the blade holder that acts to help stretch the skin a bit, much like a DE guard bar. The DX has no lip and allows for more blade exposure (I believe?). The DX is about as close as one can get in the shavette world to a traditional straight.

The kamisori style is just an alternative to the western style, kamisoris have the fixed handle while the western style have the scales and short tang. Both the SS and DX can be had in either style.

Good work, Chris.

I agree about the Tech razor; in fact, I used my Hybrid Tech this morning. These are awesome razors.

Shave #129:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Pro blade (4), Prewar Fat Handled Tech, Rapira blade (10), RR Big Bruce, TOBS Sandalwood, and homemade Brut AS decant to close.

I was really hoping that between chores, my usual late shave, and everything else I had to do the first half of the day, my mail call would arrive in time for the shave. Alas it has not arrived yet!

The shave was good though! It was pretty much business as usual with the consistency between gear and result of shave. The Rapira blade seems to be doing OK, I was kind of feeling that it was on its way out a shave or two ago, but today it did just fine in most areas.

The TOBS still has a number of shaves left, though I continue to load heavy, the donut is substantially thinner now however.

The kids had their first day of VBS. My wife, who volunteered to head up the opening and closing rallys, said everything seems to have gone off without much issue. So good news!

Only a few chores left to finish and a quite evening ahead.

I hope you all enjoy your Monday!

Nice shave. That TOBS is really hanging in there.

Boy, I’ll say! Thanks Doug!

In other news:

Huzzah! The prestigious and much lauded Fine Platinum and the RR Game Changer!

Looking forward to the morning shave!

I snuck a quick dab of Platinum onto my wrist to test...AWW LAUDY THA’S A BIT O HEAV’N RIGH THAR!

The missus gave it the sniff approval test and it passes easily.

Quite different than CC Venture’s profile while is much more bright citrus/pineapple pop at the start then cools down to a smoky scent with the citrus lingering in the background. Platinum is more of a cologne-like scent, light on the pineapple, but more leather-smoky.

Both amazing products I think. Aventus must be a heck of a beast to inspire such great aftershaves.

Thank the lord SWMBO likes the scent! Platinum is some great stuff!

Nice shave, always nice to have something reliable to lean on when things get hectic!

Good shave.

The Game Changer looks really nice. I'm sure you'll give us a full report.....

Shave Break (from open blades)!

Apologies ahead of time, this is a bit long winded.

Boy was I anxious to get this morning’s shave on...so many possibilities to help christen the new razor! I will say, I was not disappointed in the least!

Gear: Razorock Game Changer (w/Barber Pole handle), Astra SP (0), Razorock Big Bruce synth, DR Harris Sandalwood soap, and Fine Accoutrements Platinum to seal the deal.

I went through so much indecision this morning, but there you have it!

I almost did the first pass with the Feather anyway, but I decided “No! A first shave with a new razor demands full attention!”

The seating of the Astra was a piece of cake, no fiddling at all, and from what I could tell was perfectly aligned. The Barber Pole handle is perfectly polished and the knurl is just right for a light grip, not too shallow, but not super deep. It adds to the overall solid feeling of the razor. The head pieces have a slightly different finish. To be honest it gave me a bit of a scare, but IB states it’s what they were going for. They are well polished, but the metal has a bit of a milky/faceted/semi-matte look to it. It’s kinda neat, but may be off-putting to some as it doesn’t entirely match with the handle. Nothing about the finish detracts from the shave however.

The shaving angle with the GC is immediately findable, but it’s deceptive! You almost never feel the blade on your WTG or XTG strokes, and though there is some audible feedback, it is very quieted. I watched the razor rinses like a hawk just to make sure I was still cutting stubble lol.

The lather channels and finish make rinsing a breeze. The razor never felt clogged a single time, even if I held off on rinsing a bit longer than usual.

The best comparison that I can give is of the shave to that of a Prewar Fat Handled Tech (triangular slots), but with the heft and geometry, it nearly pulls off a Fatboy-like level of comfort. It is easily a daily driver. It has great efficiency, more than the prewar Tech and more than the Fatboy on setting 3. You only ever really get some blade feel on the ATG, but the smoothness of the shave makes it pleasing. These traits are what I was hoping for and more. It’s only the first shave, but often first impressions are important! So far, a superb chunk of value per buck spent!

Fine Platinum did not disappoint either. It applies very smoothly and has a great cooling effect. I applied a few dashes in all and the scent is glorious, a bit peppery for a little bit, that may have been an interaction with the DR Harris scent? I still stick with my initial thoughts last night though, a quality product. The scent lasted about 5 hours from that little wrist dab, even though a couple water splashes.

Back to work today, But already a major win day folks!
