If you have to do something...

Shave #120:

Face definitely still a little tender from whatever happened yesterday. I knew as soon as I was about half way through building my lather, as soft as the Big Bruce is. I pushed forward anyway though!

Gear: Feather AC SS, Pro blade (20), RR Big Bruce, TOBS Sandalwood, and RR The Stallion to finish.

Went ahead with a 3 pass despite the tenderness on the cheeks. The Pro blade has lasted 20 shaves and to the end of the month, so I think it’ll be time to swap it.

In all, a good BBS/DFS today.

In other stuffs, I’m still pretty tired from yesterday evening. I busted butt all day, worked through half of my lunch, and had to stay an extra half hour at work just to make sure things were decent and ready for today. Had to get up earlier than normal too to go back in, but at least I’ll get off later evening (which is early for me) and have some kind of night.

It does stink that today is going to be the hottest day for the week, reaching about 104. I think a lot of inside work is in order!

Formulating some kind of plan for the 4th of July shave, we’ll see. It’ll be nice to have that extra day off this week.

Enjoy your Saturday all!

Sounds like it was a good shave today, even with the residual tenderness. Stay cool and indoors today!

Shave #121:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Pro blade (21), E2 Fatboy, Rapira blade (4?), Soap Commander: Commitment, Captain’s Choice: Venture to close.

Today I decided to stand in solidarity with that poor guy Chad and his Soap Commander kick (shh don’t tell him, he might think he’s got a convert).

Ok not really, I’m just getting the kit set for the shave on the 4th. I did actually use SC though. I got a much better lather this time than last, I loaded pretty heavy though. Still not a fan of their vegan base. It has some good in-shave slickness, but something about the lather still feels only a step above middling, not great or exceptional. I appreciated the scent a bit more, it’s kind of flat and single note to me, but it opened up a bit during the lather to a decent wood scent. I think I’ll definitely be going with the Jeeves for the special shave.

I did one pass with the Feather and two with the Fatboy. I did forget to change out the Pro blade on the Feather, hopefully I remember tomorrow. The Rapira has calmed considerably on the XTG pass in part due to the Fatboy geometry I suppose, but the ATG felt hyper sharp or rough, I couldn’t decide which. I’ll have to decide whether or not to keep it for the special shave.

Overall, not a bad shave, good results!

Excited that I get 3 days off this week, looking forward to some chill time. For at least part of the 4th we’ve planned to go to a friend’s annual block party for some BBQ and fun for the kids. Should be enjoyable!

Today is SWMBO’s birthday, so it’s out to lunch after church and me making one of her favorite desserts after dinner, brownies and ice cream!

Happy Sunday all!

I completely agree with you on Soap Commander. Certainly not a bad soap...just not as good as what Chad makes it to be. I know to each his own...but kind of middle of the road for me...maybe a little better. In full disclosure though...I have only tried samples. I do think it is hard to judge a soap completely by a sample. So maybe I need to get a tub to give it my full attention.

That may well be. I guess one tub never hurts, right? ?

One tub never hurts...but my wife can hurt me after one tub!

Great shave Chris!

FYI for anyone interested, Darren, aka Mr. Soap Commander, recommends using their samples like shave sticks. I've had good results blooming the sample and then just holding it in my hand while loading my brush. When I asked him if one should bloom their soaps, he replied "Drown it".

Good to know Craig, thanks!

I bloom my one Soap Commander soap just like it was SV or another hard soap. It gives a really nice lather. Hopefully I will have my second scent in this week before the 4th shave.

Awesome! What scent do you have again? Which did you order?

Great stuff Chris! I only have one SC soap (two inbound), Endurance, and it's about the same as Stirling for me for performance. I think I have it scored about 1 point lower, but that's splitting hairs, honestly. I can say that I do enjoy using it when it gets pulled out, though that's not as often as it should be. Happy Birthday to SWMBO, sounds like it was a great time!

Glad you got a good shave with the Soap Commander. Keep at it! It is truly a great soap!
