Great couple of shaves and reads Chris!
Good luck on getting the razor combination you want!

The game is afoot! In regards to the newest shipment of RR Game Changers that is. I’m excited to try my luck at beating out the shaving horde for a barberpole style GC!

Joe has 600 units in, they’ve gone through a facelift on the baseplate (which is supposedly purely aesthetic), and they look as outstanding as ever.

Good luck in the hunt!

Shave #113:

No TOBS shaves this weekend!

Today, I welcomed a new addition to the den with an inaugural shave:

Officially it has been dubbed the MH Custom Red (fancy talk for someone’s GD mod), unofficially it is Ygritte. The unofficial naming happened to come up recently in another place, where someone posed the question as to if anyone names their gear. The vintage Koken SR I shave with has been unofficially dubbed the Old Crow. I thought it was pretty intriguing that the delivery had been “Screened by US Marshal” (it shipped out of TX).

So gear today: MH Custom Red, RR Big Bruce, Proraso Red, and Proraso Red AS to finish.

The Custom Red is quite hefty and beefy. I think it may have been a GD W-series mod, but that’s just a guess, I’ve never held one of their standards in my hands. The creator said it was a majority hone on synthetics, finishing on a 12k followed by a Yello Lake Oil Stone. Overall the shave was nice, though a the edge felt a little rough, particularly on the ATG. Hopefully it’s just a case of the edge needing to calm for a shave or two.

Otherwise, a standard 3 pass, consistent with my shaves over the last week. I did have to chase a little under the chin, but I mark that down for needing to get to know the razor a bit better.

Stropping the Custom Red was a bit different for me. The rounded spine and smoother finish (than the Koken) made it more difficult to feel and hear the strokes. I do look forward to ffuture shaves with this piece!

In other things, today is my Friday. It’s also going to be the hottest day of this week, reaching about 105. Last night it just did not cool down much at all. When I got home from work at about 11pm, it still had to be in the mid to upper 80s.

Looking forward to closing the week!

Good luck in the hunt!

Thanks Tim!

Great looking razor, Chris!! It'll take a shave or five to get used to it. Pretty soon it will feel second nature to shave and strop with it.

Sharp looking razor Chris! Texas is a country of it's own and the US Marshalls are watching you............Nice shave !!

Thanks Dave! I must say...the Marshals are pretty darned awesome. I wouldn’t mind having them watching over me...maybe not watching me. Lol!

Nice looking razor Chris!

Great shave! Hopefully the edge will settle in!

Thanks Craig and Josh! I do recall similar feelings when I got the Koken for my first SR...”what is this?”, “is this how it’s supposed to feel?”, “is this right?”, etc. Larry from WD at least has a good rep for honing. The gentleman I got the Custom Red from, I do not know well, so I’m probably a little extra leery. I’m sure you’re both absolutely right though!

Shave #114:

Gear: MH Custom Red, Fatip Piccolo, RR Big Bruce, Proraso Green, and CC Venture for the finish.

Followed the lead from a couple others and selected Proraso Green for the shave. A great morning wake up call, post shower, for sure! Lather was on point today for a 3 pass and lather soak.

Let the Custom Red come out to play one last time before it goes to the rotation drawer. I felt a little more comfortable with the edge today the first 2 passes. It did seem to stall a in a couple spots, but that’s probably still me. I only had one minor nick on the chin XTG, when rounding the curve.

An excellent and smooth cleanup with the Piccolo for 100% BBS!

I just noticed my new forum title...and, why yes I do!

A normal Sunday for once! Not working, only one meeting after service, little bit of watering to be done at home, bible study in the evening...should be a good day!

Happy Sunday all!
