If you have to do something...

Proraso and Cella are like shave den staples. I had the Cella tub and didn't find it stellar but i ended up with a cut off the larger block and it is quite nice. I don't find the scent strong enough to complain about but i think it can best be described as cherry cola...strange because it is an almond oil scent (maybe amaretto).

i think the only old school scent I am not pleased with is Arko stick. I had one stick that was so faded I couldn't understand what people complained about, then i got a fresh one ...good God was/is it awful. The scent actually gives me headaches. Arko makes some decent creams, they smell like a traditional barbershop scent.

The secret to decanting lilac vegetol is to leave a fair amount of empty space at the top of the bottle. Shake the bottle every so often and open it to let out some of the old stank. The air gap at the top allows magical changes to occur and the occasional venting helps remove the more undesirable scents to dissipate. It may seem odd but Tabac and the Veg really to play nice together.

Viva La TABACAVEG

Tabacaveg? Sounds like playing with fire to me lol, combining the two most potent products I have...

I do hear lots of good things about the Cella block, I’ll have to go for some when the tub is gone. A half lifetime supply of the stuff could never be a bad choice lol.

My Veg is decanted into a mini champagne bottle, so I think the headspace is there. Good tip on the shaking... might help to leave it permanently open too...?

Soooooooooo, I have empty space at the top of the bottle that's been "aging" for almost a year now; have just shaken and opened.....the first second is powdery floral, and I have cautious optimism.....then the cat brings things back to reality!

Good shave Chris!

Proraso is hard to beat! Just good solid performers for me.

Indeed! If a soap can’t match or beat my Prorasos, out it goes! Thankfully I’ve been selective enough with my choices and this hasn’t had to be put into effect yet...lol.

Nice shaves Chris! Haven't tried Proraso Green yet, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy shaving with something that smells like Vic's haha! I do enjoy the Red though. Good stuff!

Its not exactly like Vick’s, but it is similar IMO. It clears the sinuses though, has a really nice menthol kick, super fresh, feels kinda old school.

You should give it a try. It is great during the summer.

I am very much into old school, and it does seem like it would be a good summer soap.

I guess I’ll have to give it a shot. It’s cheap enough to where if it doesn’t work out it’s not a big deal.

Shave #85:

3 pass today, probably shoulda just done 2. My cheeks feel a little raw after the 3rd. Not to shabby of a shave otherwise. I think it was more my fault that anything else. I had a bit of s heavy hand on some strokes and pushed things a little.

Today was TOBS Sandalwood with my homemade Brut AS to finish.

I saw bottom today! The bottom of my TOBS tub that is. It is by far the oldest soap in my collection, having stuck around for about 3 years from just after I first started traditional shaving. I pondered the choice...do I power through it and use the tub to house my Tabac puck or do I continue just to keep it in rotation? Choices, choices. I still have too many soaps to justify buying a new one. I may just power through it. It’s a great cream and still works pretty well...I just don’t know!

Happy Friday to y’all (my Thursday, boohoo).

Great shave Chris!

More than likely the heavy hand was the culprit on the cheeks.

Nice shave with the Green! It's a classic scent, that while not a frag that will catch people's attention, is nice and refreshing, especially on a hot summer day.

Absolutely!

I agree. A little bit of alum and witch hazel, and it seemed to be ok after a couple hours thankfully.

Shave #86:

3 pass Feather shave today. I went with the TOBS again.

WTG and XTG went off without a hitch. That ATG though...felt pretty harsh. I can get my cheeks pretty decently (some of the tenderness came back). I still greatly struggle to get CCS on and under the chin though.

In all just another shave toward 100.

I may try stropping the Feather on my leather SR strop, just to see if it helps the edge. I think my towels’ threads are too long to do a proper towel strop.

Its Friday for me! Looking forward to heading out after church tomorrow with the family for an overnighted at the parents’. Should be some good barbecue and quality time! It’ll let me test my new travel shave kit too before the big week-long summer vacation.

Sorry to hear about the irritation on the chin/neck. I have spotty success there as well, but it gets slowly better!
