For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Thoughts on Old Spice: I have used a great deal of different toiletry products in my lifetime and although I don’t fish for compliments, I do enjoy them. Three products garner compliments consistently. DH Harris Sandalwood, Knize Ten, and Old Spice. And note that Old Spice was originally developed as a product to be marketed to woman. If you read Old Spice deo reviews, quite a few gals love to use it.
Old Spice carries such a strong level of nostalgia and good memories for me, there will never be a point where I don't have the splash in my bathroom. It gets heavy use 3/4 of the year and I only really back off of it during the heat of the summer.

Forgot to mention that I polished off the end of the Captain's Choice Nor'easter with yesterday's shave. Fantastic scent and good CC performance as is expected. With plenty of summertime soaps in the den currently, I won't be on the lookout to replace it anytime soon but once I get through the back log, it's on the short list. Usage came in at ~2.8g per shave, which isn't a small amount of soap when compared to the likes of a true hard puck of soap but for how soft the CC soap is, I actually expected it to be a little higher in terms of grams per shave.

Broke out the LEA stick that has been sliced and pressed into an old CBL dish. Continue to be impressed by this shave stick and might try to kill it off next as we transition seasons. Pretty sure it's triple milled though, so might not be happening anytime soon. Chased the shave with a sample of Guerlain Vetiver. Wow, is this one a green beastie! Tiny bit of citrus on the open but it's all green grasses and pure vetiver since. I like this one. A whole lot. Bonus that it's reasonably priced as well. We'll see how the longevity is but I have a feeling this one is going into the purchase list.

We made it to Friday Cadre - and not just any Friday, but the Friday of a long weekend for many of us! Don't have too to much on the agenda this weekend except for celebrating our anniversary a little early tomorrow evening and some small get togethers with friends on Sunday.

The Guerlain Vetiver yesterday continued to perform for 7+ hours on my skin which was amazing. This is a definite future pick up for me. Today I threw on the new release from Ralph Lauren, Ralph's Club and it's nice. Opens up with some standard aromatic notes and then settled down with woody and floral notes. Not super sweet or youthful but one a little more "distinguished" or something. I'm not going to say it's unique but it's nice nonetheless. Would I purchase a full bottle? I don't think so. But we'll see how it goes over the next few hours.

Wishing everyone a lovely Labor Day Weekend!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Labor Day Weekend!

Saturday we dropped my son off at my parents for the day/night and celebrated our wedding anniversary a little early which was very nice. Cocktails and dinner at Capital Grille, followed by a few more cocktails and some board games. What can I say - we're 30 going on 70 but it was a great evening. Sunday got some stuff done around the house in the morning and in the evening went to a friend's house for his birthday and a cookout. My son got to meet and play with his sister's daughter who is right about the same age and in the era of Covid babies, any interaction is good! Today we went to the pool in the morning, and will be relaxing on the back deck for much of the rest of this afternoon and evening. I'm doing some interview prep for tomorrow's slate so crossing my fingers that it goes well!

Shaves were nothing short of fantastic. I also threw on some La Nuit de L'Homme from my 5mL sample for our anniversary dinner and man is that one a hit with both the Mrs. and myself. Think that is likely to be my go-to date night scent in the future.

First day of the workweek but it's Tuesday, so that's a win! Started off the short week with interviews this morning. Continue to be excited for this new role so we'll see how it all plays out. Other than that, the painter is back this week and is hoping to finish the downstairs rooms this afternoon and start upstairs tomorrow. The good news is we like the color chosen for the kitchen, entryway, stairs and upstairs hallway. Always a bit of a gamble even when you buy a sample and paint test splotches everywhere.

Shave this morning was an amazing ginger-themed one. Macduff's Coast to Coast chased with YSL L'Homme. Coast to Coast is a unique scent in my den and one I love more and more with each shave. Great balance of ginger and maple, with just a touch of the rye whiskey coming through to make it a nice gourmand-y soap perfect for autumn and winter. Not that I can't or won't use it in spring or summer but it really feels perfect for the cool down of autumn and chill of winter.

Happy hump day Cadre!

Last fantasy football draft tonight and really looking forward to the first weekend of NFL football coming up. Don't think the Bears are gonna do much but that's pretty standard. At least there's some excitement in Fields. Shave this morning was great. Nothing not to love about Sea Spice Lime! Chased with the matching toner and Classic Match Blue.

Really love those! Great shave my friend!

I’m the commissioner in one of my of fantasy football leagues. Every year I set the draft order to be picked randomly by the computer and every year I get the number one pick. I always get crap for it, but my defense is…has it ever actually helped? I haven’t won a single championship 😂😂😂
Just checked my email and over this and last season, of 7 drafts, I had the last or second to last pick in ALL 7. It's infuriating. Made it to the playoffs in 3 of 4 leagues last year so while seasons are not won at the draft, having such a low pick makes the rest of the season that much harder due to the thinness of the RB. Particularly happy with my draft last night though, and despite my anguish at constant late picks, there's nothing quite like fantasy football season!

Hard to believe it's NFL kickoff night, but pumped to see it on my TV again. Don't think my wife shares the sentiment! Just gotta get through the work day. Felt like a great morning for a "throwback" scent shave, so reached for the PAA Sundown and chased with the matching splash and Grey Flannel.

We made it to Friday, Cadre. Despite it being a short work week, it really dragged for me. Glad to be heading into the weekend!

Have quite a bit on the agenda this weekend : hanging shelves in 3 closets, cleaning various rooms, taking down a tree at my in-laws, and most importantly FOOTBALL! Hoping to catch a few games on Sunday but we'll see how the day goes. Bears are on SNL and I don't have huge expectations this season so hopefully they surprise me. Not holding my breath though. Really enjoyed the TB Dallas game last night, definitely did not think it would be as close as it was. Of course I benched Dak in one of my leagues because I didn't have confidence in his first start back coupled against TB but he made me pay for that disrespect by putting up massive points. Sigh.

Shave was nice this morning, love 45th Parallel but wish the splash lasted longer than 30 seconds. It's a wonderful 30 seconds of cherry cheesecake but it's gone before I can say "yummy." Chased with my sample of D&G Light Blue Forever. Man oh man, I'm not a huge grapefruit guy but this one is something amazing. I don't love the scent as much on a strip but on skin, it really clicks for me. Definitely will be picking up a bottle as a summertime frag next year once it's at discounters and I have room on the dresser!
