Fluffy's Curmudgeon Corner

Had a great time watching all the guys Rudolph exchange vids. And enjoyed the zoom. My buddy hit it out of the park.
Tonight's shave I didn't repeat yesterday's setup. Grinding away with my 1508.5 soap and AS. The Adoration Deluxe got the call. Decent shave from her. But the edge is not up to my high standards. On the touch up shelf. Nothing but the best for my spokes model face.
Tomorrows shave will feature some new kit. Look forward to checking out the new soaps and brush I got for Christmas.
Hope you guys are ready for 2021.

Last night's shave included some new items I received from my Rudolph gift exchange. @BarberDave sent me some Reuzel shave cream. A Hombres brush and some Reuzel aftershave. So they got the call to help remove whiskers from my "sound guy, behind the camera, looking at real movie stars face"
This shave cream is a "different" type of product. Reading the microscopically printed directions on the back of the tin. Required because they have them (directions) in about 12 languages. The last being Klingon. It says to "Rub the skin with the hottest water that you can stand for 30 seconds in a shower or at a sink. Klingon version says "Scalding water". Apply a thin layer to face without a brush. This is where I went rogue. I did in fact use a brush. What better way to get a nice thin even layer applied to aforementioned unsuitable to look at for long periods of time mug. Note: before I went off the directions. I checked my shave den for any eight legged spies. For they report back to @Spider like the crows in Lord of the Rings. So steaming hot shower, Check. Thin layer of product applied to skin, Check. Commence five 'o clock shadow removal.
The freshly touched up Adoration Deluxe moved along nicely. The scent is very light and neutral. Believe it's just the result of the ingredients and no intentional added ingredients for scent. This cream does what it says it can. Provides a nice shave with no drying out. This product would be great for travel/camping. Very little water needed to use/rinse off. No perfumes so if hunting is in the mix, that's a plus. So this cream proudly made in Holland. Is very business like. With none of the distractions that some products need to distract from actual performance. The Reuzel aftershave is very nice. All around good shave. Thanks again Dave.
Always nice to try out new products. Ready to watch some football today. Hope you guys are getting ready to get the crappy broke ass year that has been 2020 in the rearview mirror. I know I am.

Great report Ken! Brushless products always feel a bit weird to me and make me a bit leery...but if The Barber endorsed it, there must be something to it!

Simple shave tonight with a new to me soap.
CBL Barbers Hombre edition. Nice scent. Nice performance. I'm not good at describing scents. The has a nice one though. Medium to light strength. Kind of sweet to my nose. But not gourmand. The Clubman plays well with it. Lathers easy. Rinses off well. I like it.
Touched up Robeson took care of bidness. No fuss. Up early at 0430 to take Step daughter and her husband down to BWI airport. They were visiting for Christmas

Didn't find the time to post the last couple of shaves. They were the usual fair. That is to say good. Enjoying my new soaps from friends and family. Also enjoying seeing and reading about others new acquisitions. I'm sure I am not alone in that I hope this new year is better than the last. But remember that no matter how crappy things seem. Tomorrow always holds the promise of better times.

Tonight's shave went well. My Japanese razors never disappoint. And I have decided to start off 2021 using my non fu fu soaps. As in no artisan. So on tap this shave was DR Harris Windsor. The first DR Harris soap I got a long time ago was the Marlboro scent. That is nice as well. They are a very hard puck that I like to pre soak. Makes a thick stable lather. Solid performance. Bang for the buck it delivers good shaves.
Some of you may have made new year resolutions relating to shave products. As in not purchasing any. My resolution is much more practical. I resolved to find new products I like and tell all of you about them. At approximately 0100 hours of the first day of this new year. I purchased two soaps. Reports to follow. Your welcome.

Tonight's shave was very nice. Carrying on with the non artisan soaps in my den. This one being the Italian Titan of shave soap. Cella. This 1Kg of tallow goodness always delivers a nice shave. Having ADHSD (attention deficit hyperactive soap disorder) This block is several years old. I keep it sealed up in the fridge. Carving off a piece when needed. The fancy brush did it's job well.
Whisker removal was achieved with my first new razor of 2021. The Schmidt and Company of St. Louis Black Star. Those of you that know me. Have already heard me drone on. About barber supply razors. But hot damn, they are almost always great blades. This one being in NOS condition. Dynamite Extra Hollow grind with a blued tang. And gotten for a very nice price. It required very little time on the hones to bring up the possibly original edge. To my incredibly high standard of sharpness.
I thought it proper to use an Italian aftershave. The result of the union of these items. A smooth comfortable no fuss shave. Gentleman if you want a great razor for usually 1/4 the price of new Dovo. Start browsing the bay. Patience and a discerning eye will be rewarded.
