There's only 1 week until the Sumo Rankings are released on May 1st!

1. Where do you think they will place Asenoyama and Ichinojo?

2. Will the Yokozuna make it the entire tournament or withdraw and retire?

3. Do you think Ochiai will be Juryo 5-1?

They will be m12 to m14 I believe. I hope higher but I bet in that range.

Right off the bat I can't believe that with 10 wins Ochiai only went to J8. It's like they purposely trying to keep him down.

Hey Adam! Yes, we've all been watching sumo together for about the last year or two. We typically start a Basho thread about a week or two before the tournament and we have a gentlemanly contest to see who can pick the best wrestlers to win. Modeled on the way Jason Sumo used to hold his sumo contests. @CVargo and @Spider usually run it(thanks guys!). We try to get together to have two sumo watch parties via Zoom and typically watch about an hours worth of sumo between Makuuchi and Juryo and then have discussions.

Yes, we are diverse group full of weird hobbies! Glad your here, I'll tag you in the May sumo thread.

YES, I was really surprised, but this may have been due in part that several of the upper Juryo wrestlers had winning records, but and a traffic jam at Makuuchi/Juryo, so he may have just been stuck there. Still, if he manages to win the tournament or at the least pull another 10/5 he could be Juryo 1 or maybe even Makuuchi 17? Who knows, but I'm sure it will be exciting either way.

I'm excited to see the guy grow!

So for the May contest. I am trying to get a read on our Yokozuna and Ozeki. Are they for sure wrestling? Waka is for sure out? And do we enjoy the Juryo portion. Of the contest also?
