Down in the Heart of Texas!

Haven’t tried a Stirling badger yet. I do like their two-band synthetic.

Some natural hair brushes are just lather hogs for some reason. Sometimes it’s leftover solvents from manufacture...sometimes, I just don’t even know what. Maybe contact Rod directly?
It is not impossible to lather with, but right now it just seems like a chore which I don't like. Before contacting Rod I just wanted to make sure that I have tried everything first. Thanks Chris!

Good stuff pat!
Thanks Dave!

Mine seemed to hold lather and wasn't one I grabbed much because of that also. Stirling is still the best bang for the buck in badger but it isn't perfect. The flow thru just didn't seem to be there for me. Not thinking Rod can do anything for you as it is just the nature of that brush..............................unless you and I just had odd ones.

Yeah I didn't want to contact Rod until I tried everything. I think I might try gelling it and see of that helps. Thanks Dave

So I had to call an audible on the soap today. My Father's Day gift came in and I was pretty stoked. My wife and son got me Stirling Gentleman and Stirling Texas on Fire sets, so you know what is on deck for tomorrow! I'll finally be able to join the ToF club.
Stirling Gentleman is a fantastic scent and I am sure y'all have heard that before. Rod and Mandy do a wonderful job with their products and Stirling will always be in my den for the soaps performance and scent versatility.
Had a better shave with the Stirling Badger today. The only difference is I squeezed out all of the lather before my first pass and that really helped. I still had trouble working the lather into my skin for passes 1 and 3 (trying to get the sebum glands going like @BarberDave), but I have an idea on how to fix that and we'll try that out tomorrow. I still think gelling will help, but first I need to find the time to do that. I may have a 3 day weekend next week so we'll see.

Thanks for reading Cadre and I hope y'all had a great Wednesday!

Stirling Gentleman will always be in my den and will always be one of my favorite scents of all time. Good job finding a way around your lather hog of a problem!

Hey Cadre, so I am needing a little bit of help. I have been looking at a few straight razors and I am curious if any of y'all have used any of these or have other recommendations. So far I am torn between a Dovo Bismarck, Thiers Issard, Boker, and Ralf Aust. Any help is greatly appreciated and other recommendations are welcomed!

Dang Pat! I will be of no help whatsoever. I’ve had and used a vintage Boker, very nice razors. I’ve heard great things about the Bismarks too and would like to have one. I’d also like to have a Ralf Aust. I missed one on our BST awhile back.

See? No help whatsoever. Ok ... I’d probably go with the Aust. Just because.

I'm my experience so far, I had to do quite a bit of work to get my edge right on the Dovo Forestal Venessa got me. I've heard the quality has dropped a bit, but that's purely anecdotal and aside from the work I put I haven't had any issues. The bil has a Ralf Aust and loved it until it dulled out after a couple of years, he hasn't put any effort into refreshing the edge. Can't speak on the other two options.

@bentheduck I’ve heard the same about Dovo quality going down. But I wasn’t sure if Bismarks were impacted or it is was the lesser models.

That sucks about the Aust that the BIL has. Sounds like it’s just taking up space in a drawer now. Does he have pics? I got $20, maybe we could work something out 🤪

It is certainly just taking up space. He says it's ugly and would rather just buy a new razor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'd love to clean it up and hone it for him, and I offered, but nothing yet.
