Down in the Heart of Texas!

Thanks for the review, Pat. I have an unused tub of Iron Throne sitting in a drawer. I'll likely get to it this spring/summer. CBL soaps lather very well, IME.

So far I have only used Sir Fougere and Iron Throne, but both lathered extremely well. I still have to try Norse Spice, V for Vetiver, and California Sunrise, but I expect similar lather from those three.

The only thing that I did not get from this soap is the sandalwood

Iron Throne is a new favorite scent of mine! I think the sandalwood gets a little drowned out, but it's there. I think its bigger part is that it adds more depth and evens out the sharper notes of the juniper, bay leaf, and oud. I love the scent and am really wanting an aftershave that matches it perfectly. Captain's Choice used to have North aftershave which would be a close approximation...but Scott doesn't make it anymore. Avon Everest is in the same wheelhouse...but not perfect.

Thank you for that Don! I was wondering which aftershave would pair well with it. I'll have to look into Avon Everest.

Iron Throne is probably my 2nd favorite scent from CBL, and I love the cooling from it as well. I love the scales on that straight!

Journal Entry 8:

Pre-shave: Shower & Jack Black's Face Buff

Razor: Dovi BQ 5/8

Brush: Yaqi Rainbow Brown Synthetic

Soap: CBL California Sunrise

Aftershave: Stirling Tea Tree, Witch Hazel, and Aloe & Baxter of California aftershave balm

Moisterizer: CeraVe moisturizing cream

Results:

First impression of the scent was that it was very fresh and clean smelling, but with a little spicy scent which I am presuming is the tobacco. It lathered really well, but I noticed that the lather dried out relatively quickly on my face. I don't know if any of y'all have noticed that with the Tonsorial edition. All in all it was a great shave and I really enjoy that soap. I have never had a lavender soap, but that was quite refreshing!

Homefront:

My wife went to the doctor again today and they said that her sugars are good and that she is not diabetic! They just want to keep an eye on the baby's fluid so they want to see us back at 32 weeks and 36 weeks to get ultrasounds.

Thank y'all for reading and I hope y'all have a great Friday tomorrow!

Fantastic news! I was hoping she didn't turn up having gestational diabetes.

Oh yeah, and I've never had Tonsorial dry up on me so far...that I can remember, but I never actually know what day it is, so take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks Ben! We were both really relieved.

I think what I may do next time is bloom the scoop I take out and see if that helps. It could also be that i didn't wash off all of my exfoliant.

That's great news!

California Sunrise is my favorite CBL scent. It is pretty complex and hard to pick out some of the individual notes, and I really like it.

Thank you!

I picked up on the lavender and the tobacco (I think) right away. I am hoping that with more usage I can detect some of the other ingredients. I will say that I do like the former Tonsorial a little more than the softrt Premium. Next time I use the Tonsorial I will have to bloom it to see if that helps with the problem of it drying so quickly.

Journal Entry 9

Background:

Friday was a great day for many reasons, but the two that stand out (shaving wise) are because my AP Shave Co. brush came in and my lovely wife gifted me a Rockwell 6C razor! Now typically when I try something new I like to keep my shave as consistent as possible, but I could not wait to try everything. Fair warning, this post will be longer than usual as I will give my thoughts on the brush, razor, and CBL soap I am trying.

Pre-shave: Hot shower & Jack Black's Face Buff

Razor: Rockwell 6C w/ #2 Baseplate

Blade: Rockwell blade

Brush: AP Shave Co. SynBad

Soap: CBL Premium Soap Norse Spice

Bowl: PAA scuttle

Aftershave: Osma Alum & Stirling Tea Tree, Witch Hazel, Aloe & Baxter of California's balm

Moisturizer: CeraVe moisturizing cream

Results:

First impression of the soap scent is really good. This is pretty darn close to the old spice deodorant that I first started using when I was a kid. The first impression of the brush is that the knot seemed a little small, but that may be because my WCS badger is like a monster now. However, the brush is very soft and feels like it has a firm backbone. Lastly, my first impression of the razor is also very good! It is my first adjustable razor (second DE overall) and I like it so far. I like the weight of it and the gun metal finish is very appealing. She did very good!

I proceeded with my shave routine as normal. I took out a ¼ teaspoon of soap and put it in my scuttle. Followed by roughly 25 seconds of loading, then added water as needed. The soap lathered really well. After a few drops of water the lather exploded and the scent amplified, which I really appreciated. The brush did a really great job of holding heat and holding lather.

The lather is dense and very slick. The brush splays very nicely and I feel that it applies lather very evenly. I could not feel the blade at all, but that could also be because I was only on setting 2. However, the razor cut well and I am DFS for church. Next time I may try setting 3 or 4 because I am still relatively rough around my adams apple.

All in all it was a really great shave. I love the scent of Norse Spice and the performance was the same great quality from CBL. The razor was a true joy to use and I think I may play around with other settings and blades. The brush was wonderful too. I don't know why I got discouraged about the knot initially, but it performed as well as the Yaqi I recently bought.

Thank y'all for sticking around through this journal entry, and I hope y'all have a blessed Sunday!
