Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

Oh, I almost completely forgot... I have two pucks of Haslinger and some MWF in Josh's PIF pile.

I may have to change my next 3017 to a Haslinger 3-fer (The 2 from @Dagwoodz and the 1 Schafmilch I have in my stash)... after I sample the remaining tubs and have a couple of shaves with The Fat.

Shave Quality
Well, it is official. I can't use Honeybee soaps. This is the third one that I have tried and it is the third one to irritate my face. The irritation started before the razor even hit my face for pass one. I rushed the first pass to clear my face then switched to KMF to finish the shave. I really like the scents of this soap, it is unobtanium, and quite special because of Sue. I wish I could use it without my face burning. The razor is a different story. At 8 it seems to have settled down, or perhaps it is the blade smoothing out. Whatever it was left me BBS once the irritation from the soap went away.

Gear
I guess I have a bunch of Honeybee soap in need of a good home...

Other Thoughts
There are two soaps on WCS that I want to try, which I don't think anyone here has tried. They are Strike Gold and Moon Soaps. Does anyone out there know anything about either of them? I need to get back on the "S-Word" bandwagon, but I may pick up a couple of these before I do.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Sorry for the irritation. I'd be happy to buy one or more from you as I pif'd my only tub to Bill in Oneida thinking I'd get more not knowing I wouldn't be able.

BBS in two passes with little residual irritation. Everything clicked this morning. The lather was great. The blade was sharp. My angle was good. It was a fabulous Friday shave.

I am not sure why @Cvargo got ripped up as badly as he did by this blade. It works great for me. But, I guess that is why YMMV seems to be the rule of wetshaving. I suppose he could have had a bum blade, or something. Whatever the reason, it works for me.

The APR Florian made for a really great lather. It was slick and protective during the shave and my face feels smooth and soft afterwards. The scent is a very nice fougere with some citrus in it that my face really liked. Very good soap.

Other Thoughts
There are lots of things that are good to have around for straight razor maintenance. Currently I am looking at stop pastes. I am thinking that I will go with the green and red polishing rouges, but diamond pastes and sprays are attractive. The old-school rouges as much cheaper, however. The diamond pastes are more popular, but I am not totally sure why. Is it the availability of finer grits?

Interesting I wonder if because my blade was 'loose' and not in a pack maybe that hurt it?

I suppose that is possible, but I would think that a double wrapped blade would be mostly okay.

It could also be a difference is coarseness of our whiskers. My facial hair is on the softer side.

Well this calls into question the whole bad blade series and I think those with sub-par ratings will have to be retested.

It was an easy two pass BBS with next to no residual irritation from the Hawk. The lather was superb, definitely Tier 1 or better. The only problem was shaving and putting AS splash on a sunburn. That was a little ouchy.

Gear
The Lather Bros. soap is good stuff. Once again I have no complaints about the performance. It is a high quality soap base. The scent is one that I might not have chosen for myself, but it is very nice. The Asian Pear makes for a rather sweet shave. It was a pleasant scent, but not quite in my wheelhouse.

The Hawk is a really great performer.

Other Thoughts
Avengers Endgame was fabulous.
