Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

The scent was well balanced and very enjoyable. If you want to try it, I will happily send you a sample. Just PM me your mailing address.

Thanks, but I think I'll just take a flier on it. Michelle's soaps are so good, it's worth the chance.

Josh's Mega PIF #27

Hitting the home stretch on @Dagwoodz PIF. There are just a few more scents for me to try. I must say it has been a great experience. I have tried a bunch of things that I probably never would have otherwise. These soaps have definitely widened my horizons when it comes to artisan soaps. CBL is still my favorite, but I now have several more artisans from whom I will be buying. There are three scents that I am going to save for later, however. Those are the Sudsy Soapery Jack Frost, Tallow & Steel Merry, and the Stirling Christmas Eve. Those I am going to save until December for obvious reasons.

Shave Quality
How was today's shave? BBS all the way. There is some irritation that hung around for a bit, but it is fading now.

Gear
Didn't have time for a straight shave this morning, so I will have to wait to try the new edges on my ZY and Shumate.

I think the Shark SS in my 3000s is starting to go down hill a bit. It felt a little more scratchy today than it has in the past.

Other Thoughts
Overall it was a good weekend. There were some shenanigans by one of the other tournament attendees, but that is starting to blow back on him already, so karma or something...

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Was there a scent to that soap?
It is a cologne-y sort of scent. I am not sure how to describe it.

From the Panna Crema website:
Damn Fine Shave - Edition
  • Head notes are fresh and citrusy: Tangerine, Bergamot, Lavender.
  • Middle notes are floral: Jasmine, Lily of the valley, Violet.
  • Bottom notes are musky and woody: Cedarwood, White musk.

Well, I got to BBS today, but not without some irritation. I binned the Shark for a German Wilkie and turned the Ming Shi 3000s up to 7. It was a rough shave. I might have to go back to a Shark for a shave to see if it was razor or blade. The soap and AS really smell great. I am very happy with this purchase.

Gear
The razor was ouchy today and gave me a small nick right under the nose. I am going to have to work on that.

Other Thoughts
I am going to have to get to bed, and up, earlier in order to be able to get a straight shave on a weekday morning.

Today's shave was less ouchy. The Shark blade did a little better than the German Wilkie, which I find a bit surprising. The shave was still a little rough, but that may have been leftover from yesterday. The lather was good. I think that the Pure2O soaps are mid-range performers. They are slick and protective, however the post-shave conditioning is not as good as some of the artisan soaps that i have been using lately. A&E, DG, CBL, and GD are all better performers. The scent is decent, but it won't knock your socks off like CB Un Jour Gris will. I might replace the Pure2O DFS scent, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to do it. This is another soap line that I am glad I tried. Now I need to get my hands on some Nuavia.

Gear
The Ming Shi 3000s is getting rougher at the higher settings. It is still giving good shaves, but so far I think the lower settings are better for me.

The Fine Fresh Vetiver is fabulous AS!

I received a loaner CNAT from @The Monkey the other day. It is a very nice looking stone. I can't wait to give it a try as a finisher.

Other Thoughts
I am a happy shaver these days. I have more soap than I can reasonably use in about 5 years and most of it is really high-end stuff with more on the way. Happy days.
