Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

They were quite good.

We finished of the night with some Stranahan's Sherry Cask. That was another amazing bourbon.

I'm not a whiskey person, but I'd like to try the Pappy Van Winkle to see what the rumbling is all about.

After using the Ballenclaugh for several days this soap was a welcome change. It may not be Elite, Box 1, but it is close. It also blows the Ballenclaugh out of the water. This was my first time using Mike's ever and it won't be the last. I think this one is going to have a permanent place in my den. The lather was slick, protective, and cushiony. I was BBS in two passes with no residual irritation. I wish I had tried this one sooner.

Gear
Mike's FTW!

Other Thoughts
It has been a nice weekend. And it will be a good 2 day week, since I am taking Thursday and Friday off for a local tabletop gaming convention. You can't beat two four day weekends in a row.

The stay at the Stanley was a mixed bag. The whiskey bar was amazing. The room (#407) could have been better. The housekeeping staff did a poor job on the bathroom and the mattress should probably be replaced. It killed my back. Also, I didn't notice any ghostly activity, so that was a bit disappointing. I am glad that we had the experience.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Great stuff Doug, sounds like Mike was definitely a winner for you!! I agree with you on the Ballenclaugh...it's good, but nothing to write home about. I will say that I experienced some pretty good slickness from it...elite level in fact. But the remaining properties were a little underwhelming in comparison.

Sorry the hotel wasn’t to die for

Sounds like another fun weekend ahead!

I am totally sold on Mike's Natural. I am going to be stocking up once the "S" thing is over. (I will probably also wait until I am through most of Josh's PIF as well.) The shaves have been great. The lather is awesome. The blade is holding up very well. The Rapira is still going strong and giving my baby face BBS shaves. Although today's shave has left me with a tiny bit of razor burn. Still, it is hard to complain when my skin is this soft.

Gear
Definitely Mike's FTW! Also, Rapira SS FTW!

Other Thoughts
My gaming convention starts tonight. I am really looking forward to it. I just need to get packed and on the road to the hotel soon, otherwise I am going to hit rush hour traffic which in Denver these days is no joke. One of my friends, on a recent visit, commented that we are getting close to LA levels of traffic.

EDIT: Oh, the convention is called GenghisCon 42. It is going to be a blast.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

This weekend at the convention I plan on using Kiss My Face Bamboo and Green Tea cream all weekend. Seriously guys and gals, if you haven't tried shaving with this stuff, get some. There are a bunch of different scents and the performance is great. Also, it is cheap and easily available. It also makes great super lathers.

Shave Quality
So, I have had a ton of good shaves while the forum has been down. I have lost track of all the numbers, so I am going to stop tracking those at the start of my journal entries for now. The big news is that I tried another soap from Josh's Mega PIF. This one was WWSC Aces & Eights. I can see why many of you love WWSC. The soap is a top tier performer. It makes a really wonderful lather with really great performance straight through to the post-shave. The scent is also very, very good. Bourbon, Lavender, and Vanilla. I used the soap for several days straight, but had to stop after yesterday's shave (3/5/2019). The soap started to irritate my face. I think it might be the vanilla. @CBLindsay has mentioned in the past that vanilla can be a skin irritant. Well, using this for several days in a row did just that. This is definitely an artisan to keep in the den, however.

Gear
Loving the WWSC.

Also, I have been using my RR Game Changer .68 for the past two shaves. It is still great. I am getting ready to give the .84 plate a try. Maybe I will do that tomorrow or Friday. We shall see.

Other Thoughts
The gaming convention was great. I had such a great time that I am looking forward to the next on one Labor Day weekend.

Yesterday I got a package in the mail. I finally received my Rockwell Model T from the Kickstarter. I haven't used it yet. I was waiting for the forum to be back online. I will post some pictures and give it a test shave soon.

I am working on losing more weight. I have started doing 16:8 Intermittent Fasting. (Basically I eat all of my calories for the day between noon and 8:00 PM.) I have been doing for about two weeks now and it is already showing results. Here's hoping that it leads to improved health for me.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Great read Doug! Bummer the Aces & Eights Gabe you some sas, sounds like a good one. Otherwise good stuff!
