Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

The beauty of this is you just mentally roll the cost of the soap into the new tires. Doesn’t raise the cost per tire much, and you have free soap!

I’m waiting for Don’s football PIF to be over for him to start one on when Doug will give up on 3017 because he has too much stuff to try.

A new pre-shave routine...

Shave Quality
Based on the Pre-Shave Oil thread (https://www.theshavingcadre.com/post/experiences-with-preshave-oils-9887270) I decided to try a different pre-shave routine today. @CBLindsay recommended giving pre-shave soap a try and gave a couple of options. I have an open puck of Williams that has been sitting on my counter a while, so I decided to give it a try as pre-shave soap. So, today rather than the usual 4 drops of oil, I wet my face after the shower and rubbed the soap into my beard making sure to go ATG to get the soap into my whiskers. I then lathered some up in my hands and rubbed it in as well, making sure to get a good amount of water into the soap. I then finished my prep as normal and had a good shave. The NEW Long Comb with the Treet Platinum skated across my face and I finished the two passes with perhaps a touch less irritation than I am used to at BBS-. The lather seemed to be more slick today. I think more experimentation is in order.

Gear
NEW LC + Treet Platinum was a good combo for me today.

Williams makes a decent pre-shave as well as a good shave soap.

Other Thoughts
So, I was thinking about getting a PAA Starling V2 (another batch was released today), but I held off. I want one, but hesitated and now they are sold out. I guess I will get one next round. I still haven't pulled the trigger on the WWSC seasonal release. But, I have decided that KJ is a good role model for some things, so I have a 12 pack of Florida Water soap coming from Amazon.

Pho for lunch today. I have a happy tummy.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Perhaps the idea of Williams as a preshave, builds on the same idea of having a superlather? Cool deal. I wouldn’t mind trying to use my modern puck that way.

Of course I am! At least as far as wet shaving enablement goes..... Congrats on the purchase. You’re going to love it!

And Pho..... man I still need to get to the city so I can have that again!

Sounds like you enjoyed the shave Doug. I really like my synthetic brush too. Mine feels so much softer than the badgers I have.

Tabac, Tabac, Tabac...when will you guys give up that stinky stuff!

The pre-shave treatment that you and Chris talk about seems like something I need to give a try!

We have a very large Vietnamese community in Louisiana and some of the Best Pho you can get outside of Vietnam. I love Pho...it is just so good.

Great stuff, Doug. I've used Williams as a pre-shave before, and it's worked pretty well.

The slickness is everywhere.

Shave Quality
Today's lather was probably the slickest lather that I have ever had. I used the Williams as a pre-shave again and loaded the bloomed puck heavily. It was so rich and slick that I started having problems holding the razor.. The slickness was everywhere. It was off the charts. I couldn't not go for the third pass. Hours later my face is still soft and smooth. I was a bit careless on my neck and under my nose. There is a bit of lasting tenderness on my neck and I nicked myself under my nose. Had I been more careful and a little more gentle on my neck it would have been a grail shave. I am sold on pre-shave soaps.

Gear
The Treet Platinum is still a very good blade.

Other Thoughts
I am having fun calling bingo. I hope that I am making it a challenge, but still fun.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

I hate it when I catch myself under the nose...they seem to super soar for a while. Otherwise great shave!

A shave without blood is a good shave.

My neck could probably use a day off. It is still a bit tender. But, today's shave didn't make it worse. The ultra-slick (and heavenly scented) Tabac lather plus a light and gentle touch on the MMOC left me DFS+/BBS-. I am really digging this new pre-shave routine. This was one of the best shaves of my life. I just wish my neck weren't still tender. At least I didn't nick myself today.

Gear
The MMOC with a Treet is a good combination. Hold it low on the handle and focus on a light touch.

Shopping for my Reindeer buddy is proving to be challenging and fun.

OK, Doug’s convinced me, for better or for worse, the Williams gets lathered up for a preshave-lather tomorrow!
