Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

I love it when a change is surprisingly more effective! Great shave today Doug ...I agree on those RR400's, great brushes!

I’m a big fan of long smooth strokes. I find I sometimes irritate myself if I do a lot of buffing. (Wow that sounded almost obscene!)

I missed your shave yesterday somehow. We also got a LOT of rain yesterday. A lot of standing water on the way home was actually nervous about hydroplaning on the highway.

Overview
Into every shaver's life a little blood must flow.

Shave Quality
I am not sure how I got the nick on my chin. And I mean right on the very tip of my chin. A little bigger than a pin-prick. With the middle of the blade no less... But there it was during my first pass. Insult met injury when I gave myself a weeper under my nose. The shave, using my new neck technique got me to BBS- in three passes (WTG, XTG w/ neck left-to-righ, XTG w/ neck right-to-left). I have a tiny bit of residual razor burn on my cheeks still this afternoon, but it is not bad. My neck is really good, for me that is. The nick on my chin though was really annoying. The alum closed it right up, so it was not a big deal. I am just not sure what I did wrong to get it. Obviously I need to refine my new technique.

Gear
Fatip Piccolo... Great razor... Just not with BIC Platinum Chrome blades...

Everything else? Just fabulous.

Other Thoughts
Rainy day #2 in Denver today. I love rainy, gray days. It is nice and cool. Sunglasses are not needed. And we really need the moisture here in The Centennial State. Not a bad day, so far. Now, if I could just get the test automation that I am coding up to work it would be a really good day.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you all have a great day and stellar shaves.

Murphy has been busy lately...Cali, Ohio, now Colorado. Nice shave otherwise! Good luck with the coding!

Just caught up on your journal Doug. Great stuff! Love the pics! I think I may borrow your ear to chin/chin to ear technique on the neck. Haven't tried that yet. Maybe it's exactly what I need....

Your well wishes helped. I just got it working this afternoon. I have to use Firefox rather than Chrome, but it works now.

The Piccolo razor must be respected for sure. It will bite and leave you wondering HOW? But paired with the right blade it provides some of the best shaves possible!

You should try it with a Feather sometime.

Great couple of reads Doug! A success and a fail, so it all evens out right?

Had a busy day today, hence the late post.

The General delivers every time.

Shave Quality
As I shaved today I thought about how to best modify my passes to further reduce irritation on my neck. After two years my neck technique is still a work in progress. Today's shave using my ear-to-ear neck pass worked well with The General. It was a BBS-, that is still mostly there at 9:40 PM. Phenomenal.

Gear
The General... Just get one already!

Clubman SR is one of the best scents ever. It is woody with hints of leather. I don't wear it often enough.

Other Thoughts
I was really hoping that things were going to settle down at work now that the office move is mostly behind us. Today my hopes were dashed. The other QA engineer is leaving the company at the end of the month. He has decided that his 45 minute commute is too much, and I don't blame him at all for coming to that conclusion. Life is going to get interesting for me in June.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you all have a great day and stellar shaves.

Sorry to hear about the difficulties at work Doug.

He has decided that his 45 minute commute is too much

Shoot, I only work 15 miles from my office and it takes me an hour most mornings to get to work. 45 minutes if school is out.

Hopefully they can find a replacement for him quickly and everything can get back to normal again.

Overview
I think I now know what Dave (Xeno) means when he says Grail Shave. This is the most BBS I have ever been with the least amount of irritation.

Shave Quality
Dave's advice kept playing in my head as I shaved this afternoon with my Robeson. Try to just remove the lather. Keep the spine less than a full width off your face. Three passes. No blood. Next to no irritation. I am as close to completely BBS as I think I have ever been when shaving my own face. The Stirling lather was still great. I made it wetter on purpose today to help with razor glide. It all just clicked. The shave just called for some Fine Platinum to finish things off.

Gear
The ShurEdge is my favorite straight so far of the three shave ready straights that I own. It is the one that gives me the best results. It is a great piece of American steel.

Today was day two with the Semogue Owners Club. This is probably the best boar brush ever made.

Other Thoughts
If I can learn to put edges on razors like the one I used today, and get shaves like the one I got today more often, I might be tempted to go all straight all the time.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you all have a great day and stellar shaves.
