Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

Congrats on finally 3017ing that Latha. And AoS makes some excellent shaving creams and soaps. But another 3017? Say it isn't so!

Great shave Doug. It’s a bummer AOS gets passed over more these days, I still think they’re above average, and the scents they have are amazing!

Gotta agree. I just think folk see the price, and the fact that they're big corporate, and it turns 'em off. But I definitely dig their stuff.

Getting caught up. And nice choice withe the AOS cream for 3017. They make a very good cream.

Yeah, there is a perception that they are overpriced. But not everything they sell is. The shave cream, for example, is between $25 and $32 per 5 ounce tub, depending on scent. That is comparable to D.R. Harris or Trumper in about the same volume with similar quality. It is not cheap, but it is not outrageous either.

Pre-War Techs are more aggressive than you might initially think.

Shave Quality
Solidly BBS again today, but with some residual irritation. The lather was excellent. AOS creams just explode into rich, dense foamy joy. The Tech with the Voskhod was a bit to harsh for my face, however. It was a really good shave, but it did feel a little like a paint scraper.

Gear
Pre-War Techs are not my favorites, but I can't remember the last time I used this one so it got called into action.

Osage Rub is a menthol fan's dream. It hurts so cold.

Other Thoughts
Work has been a stressful mess for the past three months, but it appears to be settling down. I could really use a bit of peace and quiet at work to get some stuff done.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Sorry for the shave irritation! The Voskhod was a little rough for me too when I tried it in my prewar Tech (which I happen to love). I find that besides Astra SPs, for me Gillettes (the ones I’ve tried) really work their best and smoothly with GSBs.

I love Osage Rub. If I am not testing out new or new to me stuff...if it is hot outside...then I am splashing on the Osage Rub along with any other aftershave that I am splashing on. Just love that cool feeling!

I need to head over to the local Wally World soon and see if they have any. I haven’t tried it yet!

My local "Evil Empire" does not carry any selection whatsoever for the traditional shaver. They keep a few staples Brut, Aqua velva, and the such and a couple of other well known brands of creams but nothing else.

A NEW Russian shave.

Shave Quality
BBS + neck irritation today. Excellent lather, but I don't think the vintage Gillettes like the Voskhod blade very much. It was still a pretty good shave.

Gear
The NEW SC is a really nice piece of hardware. The plating on mine is still in really good shape too.

The Proraso green splash is good stuff. I am going to get the big bottle when this one is gone.

Other Thoughts
Looking forward to my gaming night tonight.

Finally caught up Doug! Some great shaves in there, and good job on the 3017 of the Latha Oceana! Looking forward to seeing how long this tub of AOS lasts with it being 5oz and being a cream. If you're using a lather bowl, you can actually get pretty accurate with how much you're taking out of the tub if you do so on the scale.
