Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

I think the Rockwell blades are okay. Not as bad as some say. They are just not my favorites.

Thanks for all the positivity, Cadre. I really appreciate it.

Latha puck update:
It weighed in at 118 grams tonight. So, in 26 shaves I have used 34 grams of soap. That puts me at 1.3 grams per shave. If I stay at this rate it will take me 90 more shaves to finish it. I was hoping to kill it sooner than that. We will see what I can do.
I went through an entire puck of Latha in 34 shaves. Yeah. I know. I WAY overloaded it.

But if you want to go through a puck of soap in a hurry, use the Merkur Man method, which is essentially building the lather ON the puck. Just keep adding water a few drops at a time but stay on top of the puck until the lather looks really thick and voluminous before moving to the face or a bowl. You'll go through it in no time flat.

I have the Ming Shi and I've never had any irritation from it at all. You have to go shallow with that thing. Ride the top cap. Also make sure the blade is centered; it's distressingly easy to accidentally load the blade unevenly, both from side to side and also the blade can sometimes be slightly twisted so the exposure is uneven.

Shave Quality
The shaves were good.

The Big Ben blades work well for me. I didn't have a bad shave all week.

Other Thoughts
While in Iowa I did some antique shopping. I came home with a nice haul.

- a new wallet (not from the antique store)
- a nice pair of straight razors ($30 each)
- a pair of Travel Techs with two Schick blades ($3 total)
- a boxed Avon Iron Horse set with full bottle of Blend 7 ($5)
- a PAL Injectomatic in great condition ($3)
- a 1976 (W4) Super Speed in very nice condition ($15)
- a Made Rite #58 Pure Badger that appears to be NIB ($10)
This Robeson ShurEdge appears to be in decent condition. It needs polishing and lots of stone love, but I think it will turn out okay.

This one is unique and I just had to bring it home. It needs cleaning and polish but it looks great. I haven't heard of Moshy and Rahim, but this "Czar of Russia" is just pretty. I hope it will take a good edge.

This is a nice set and I even like the Blend 7 scent.

I think this one is a great score. The brush looks unused. I am looking forward to using it.

The PAL is in good shape. This should be a great shaver.

The Travel Techs came in a soap box labeled "razor parts" with the blades and a small bar of Ivory soap. It looks like someone's homemade travel kit. This was a really fun find.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Great trip! Wild finds are always fun. Nice Avon Mug! I love those sets.

I found some stuff this weekend too. Posted about them in my latest video.

B&M Latha update
On 6/30/2018 I punched through the bottom of the puck. Since then it seems to be going faster.

Before today's shave (7/8/2018) the tub weighed in at 94 grams. This means that I have used 58 grams over 35 shaves. I am averaging 1.66 grams per shave, so it is going a little faster, but I am still going a little slower than I would prefer.

At the rate I am going it still will be be 56 shaves, so I am looking at two more months of use... or so.

Great finds Doug! Well worth a week of bad shaves with the Big Ben blades perhaps...

Shave Quality
I gave it 20 linen laps and 20 leather laps before the shave. I went for three passes and came away DFS. The lather was good. Overall it was a really good shave.

Dave's edge on the Torrey really worked well for me.

Other Thoughts
I really enjoyed Iowa except for the outrageous heat and humidity while we were there. It is good to be home.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Nice shaves Doug, and outstanding finds in the wild, particularly the brush and that SuperSpeed looks to be in great shape!

Getting caught up Doug. Nice shaves and even better hunting! WOW you got some awesome finds!

Very cool finds. I hope to venture across an antique store sometime.

A good lather and a good razor leads to two passes of almost BBS. Really good stuff.
