Shave Quality
The RazoRock MJ-90 with the "A" plate is still a great shaver. It is giving me great results and it is not too aggressive. Both shaves with it have been BBS and quite low in irritation. Combined with the Strike Gold Shave soap the razor just glides across my face.

Gear
  • RazoRock razors are really great and really well priced.
  • Shark Platinum blades are quite excellent on my face.
  • Strike Gold Kennedy is a fabulous scent profile. Very gentlemanly.
  • I love the AV ASB. It is dirt cheap and works so, so well on my face.
  • Aspen is a fun cologne. It smells like Davidoff Cool Water but with an added green/pine note. It doesn't last long (and required re-spraying), but it does smell good.
  • Boss Orange is very good. The incense note combined with the fruity notes is so nice. The longevity is not so great, however. I think this one is probably office safe.
  • Polo Cologne Intense smells good. It is a more tame and modern take on Polo Green, but it smells good. I am not sure how long it is going to hold up, however. Seems to me to be office safe also.
Other Thoughts
Went rack store hunting for fragrances this weekend. Stopped at a Ross in an area where I don't usually go and found the shelves stocked with bottles, more than any Ross I have been to in the past. I even found a couple of recent releases. The Polo Cologne Intense that I am wearing today is a 2021 release. It is not often that I find new, or new-ish, releases at places like Ross. I will be going back to this Ross, since there are a few other bottles on the shelf that I want to pick up. It was a nice score.

The new job is still going well. I am getting my hands dirty testing already, so that is good. I am also learning a new-to-me tool. This is going to be a good place for me. I just need to be more forceful about my needs and more proactive in my communications. They are really laid back here and that could possibly be a bad sign for policy and procedure. I may have to push for greater rigor. This is not a bad thing. I am also going to have broad testing responsibilities across the product. This is also a good thing.

I like those great finds at the more affordable rack stores like Ross, TJ Max, & Burlington - it’s always to find something new at an affordable price!

Shave Quality
The shave was nearly BBS today, but I did have some irritation that lasted an hour or two afterwards. Overall it was a good shave, but I may take tomorrow off.

Gear
  • Still like RazoRock razors.
  • Gillette 7O'Clock blacks are decent blades. The Shark Platinum blades are a little better for me.
  • Phoenix Shaving makes really good brush handles and sources good knots for their brushes.
  • Still loving the software.
  • Eau de Rochas is a great lemon-y fragrance. It is a wonderful summer scent, but the longevity isn't the best.

Other Thoughts
Trying to be an earlier riser for the new job as well as to find some time to get some exercise in the mornings. This is still a work in progress. I need to get to bed earlier. I will get there.

Shave Quality
Great shave today with the SLOC. BBS in two passes and lacking in irritation. It was a good start to my day.

Gear
  • The SLOC is a fine razor and works well with the 7O'Clock black on my face.
  • Loving my shaving software lineup.
  • Versace Pour Homme is a nice and inoffensive fragrance. It won't win any awards, but there is nothing at all wrong with it.
Other Thoughts
I am not as affected by it as others, but inflation is causing me some pain. I don't want there to be a recession, but unfortunately it seems like it is going to be necessary (and probably unavoidable at this point). This will be the third one in my adult (i.e. working) life. I graduated college and entered the workforce in 2000, right before the DotCom boom turned into a bust. That was rough. This time around I am in a decent position to weather the current economic climate, but I am not looking forward to it and it is probably going to be really bad.
Well, there is one thing that I want to come out of it. I want the real estate markets to crater. Right now my townhouse is valued for tax purposes at more than double what I paid for it in 2006. And, I could have sold it back in December for close to 2.5 times what I paid. While it is a very nice house, I think those valuations are overinflated. The entire housing market in the Denver Metropolitan Area is way overinflated. I am hoping for a return to sanity. The bubble needs to burst. A correction like that will be seriously bad for the local economy, and probably the national economy, but it has to happen. Average people have been priced out of the housing market and that is a very bad situation.

There is actually one thing that I am very glad is happening right now. I am glad that the cryptocurrency market and the NFT market are both tanking hard. I agree with Bill Gates that they are both based on the "greater fool" theory (Greater fool theory - Wikipedia). Over the years I have seen a few people lose money in the cryptocurrency market and have never seen anyone make much profit. They are both unregulated markets that are even more of a gamble than the stock market. So, they are very, very high risk and low reward.

Good shaves with low irritation.

  • Arko stick is great shave soap. It gives fantastic results.
  • 78 Vintage Green is a refreshing and peppery fragrance. Good stuff.
  • Ormonde Man is an amazing fragrance. One of the best scents that I have ever encountered.
Other Thoughts
We are watching Under the Banner of Heaven on Hulu. I haven't yet read the book, but I do like Krakauer's writing. The TV series is very good. Andrew Gardner is a strong presence on screen.

I am using a stick that I bought in 2016 and it is still strongly scented. AFAICT the scent doesn't hang around on skin very long post shave.

Excellent shaves!! The RazoRock OLD Type really delivered.

  • L'Homme IDEAL Cologne is really good. I wish it weren't discontinued.
  • Nautica Voyage really is that good, and sooooo cheap.
  • AdG is AdG. Need I say more.
Other Thoughts
It turns out that I am going a bit too far too fast at work with the implementation of a new tool. I got smacked a bit for it yesterday. I will get over it and move on, but I did learn something important. Pushing forward is going to hurt a bit and I am going to have to fight for things, but I can do that when I think it is worth doing. Life is always going to be interesting in this startup.

I am digging into my other projects at work. The one that I was going too fast on needs to be put on the back burner for a while.

The weekend was nice and cool. Too bad we have more heat wave coming this week.

I am slowly going more and more upscale with my fragrance collection. I am really enjoying my recent pickups from YSL and Givenchy. I am planning to dive into Dior and Chanel. I also have my eye on a few niche fragrance houses.

  • The Parker 69CR has quite a few more blade feels than the RR OLD Type.
  • I love Parker blades.
  • PAA brushes are well made and comfortable to use.
  • Shaving software is still great.
  • Givenchy Gentleman Cologne is wonderful. I wish it weren't discontinued. Get it while you can.
Other Thoughts
Fragrances, Bourbon, and watches... Yup, I spend too much money. But, I love the finer things in life.

I have had a couple of rough shaves with the Parker 69CR. I needed a day off today because yesterday roughed up my neck and left me with a couple of small weepers. Overall the shaves have been good, but days off are sometimes necessary.

Gear
  • The Parker 69CR has quite a few more blade feels than the RR OLD Type.
  • I love Parker blades.
  • PAA brushes are well made and comfortable to use.
  • Shaving software is still great.
  • The fragrances have all been wonderful, especially AdG Profondo.
Other Thoughts
Summer/Fourth of July sales can be dangerous things... Once again I spent too much. I am going to try not to do it again for a while.
