Shave Quality
Man those Parker blades are good on my face! Two passes (as usual), but that new blade really killed the four days worth of growth on my face. It was a really great BBS, at least on my cheeks. My neck wasn't quite as smooth, but close enough.
Gear
I love Parker blades.
The WCS/PAA soap and aftershave smell heavenly and performed well. I am really going to enjoy killing these two products. January is going to be full of great shaves!
Other Thoughts
Today was the first shave of 2022. It wasn't supposed to be. It was supposed to be the second or third. I am blessed and lucky that tomorrow's shave will be in my home. (The fact that I can even use the products I listed above is as close to a miracle as I will probably ever get in my life.) The razor, blades, brush, soap... everything was abandoned to the wildfire that ravaged my town last Thursday. I left my entire shave den, all of my fragrance collection, my bourbon collection, and a lifetime of other things when I evacuated to safety. I had to go back into the house to get my wife's wedding rings. The fire eventually stopped a few hundred yards away from my townhouse late Thursday night. The park across the street burned as least partially. (It is hard to tell how bad it is under the blanket of snow that hit on Friday.) I found out New Year's Eve that my house was intact and was able to get in and shut off the water. I grabbed a few shave items at that time. We didn't want to stay here while we had no heat or hot water, so we stayed with the friend to whose house we evacuated. The gas was turned on today. I am surprised that Comcast has stabilized our Internet service as quickly as it has. I have been using it without error for several hours. The power to my house is also stable. I am one of the lucky ones.
Over the Christmas holiday my wife Emily and I watch a ton of Christmas movies. One that we watch every year without fail is Irving Berlin's White Christmas. In that movie Bing Crosby sings a song about counting your blessings rather than sheep when you go to sleep at night. That song has new meaning for me in the aftermath as I see the pictures, read the Nextdoor posts, and see the piles of ash that used to be houses right on the other side of the park from me. I am incredibly lucky. Tonight I am sipping from a bottle of bourbon that I left behind when I evacuated. How many of my neighbors, the people I have lived near and walked past at the Safeway, Target, or Costco over the 16 years I have lived in Superior, Colorado, are unable to do that tonight? How many of my neighbors have lost everything?
If it was indeed arson that started this wildfire, as the experts now suspect, I hope that the arsonist is quickly caught. There are 991 structures (houses, businesses, churches, and public buildings combined) that were damaged or destroyed in the Marshall Fire on 12/30/2021. Three people are missing and presumed dead. I got lucky. The worst that happened to me was having to sleep four nights on an air mattress. Tonight I will count my blessings instead of sheep.
Happy New Year to one and all.
Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.
