Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

Sorry Friday wasn't a good one for you. But at least there is shaving.

I agree with Chad...it's hard to fully understand how bad a person must feel in order to do something like that. But that is just the thing...we don't understand. I've had my bouts with depression and PTSD and there were some rough times...but there were people in my life that helped me through it all. With all of that...it still is hard to understand what someone like Mr. Bourdain was going through. Not to hijack your thread Doug, but I want to take an opportunity here to say that if anyone has anything they are having issues with...find someone you absolutely trust, and talk to them. Don't worry about what you think they might think of you, because that isn't what they are thinking. Talk to them and if they don't understand the severity of your situation, make then understand. You can't handle these things on your own. Hell, even if that person you trust is someone you have never met before and is someone you enjoy conversing with on say...a shaving forum...

Anyway, sorry for the hijack...I just thought it needed to be said.

I too am bummed out about Anthony Bourdain. I was a fan. I saw all his shows and have his books. And I actually met him here in ATL around 10 or 12 years ago while he was on a book tour. There was about 30 - 40 folks at this meet and greet type of thing. He gave a quick little cooking demo, then talked a while, then you could speak with him afterwards and he was signing books, which he signed mine. He was extremely pleasant, amiable, and seemed genuinely nice.

I really feel for his family now. Tragic. Too much of this happening nowadays.

Sorry to hear about the crappy day, Doug. The Bourdain death was a shock, and extremely sad thing. I pray that his family is able to get through these times. So many questions that get asked in times like these without answers. Between him and Kate Spade, it just makes you realize how much people do not let on what their personal demons are.

Hopefully your weekend is going better than the week ended for you Doug!

Don't worry about the thread-jack. It is important to talk about topics like this.

I don't know what Bourdain was struggling with, but I am really bummed out that his demons got the better of him. I wish that he had sought help. His death is a huge loss.

The shave was a little rough, but three passes of BBS. It was definitely not a grail shave, but once my face calmed down it turned out to be really good. The alum and the as splash both gave me lots of feedback today.

Gear
GEM razors are great shavers. The MicroMatic is a cool design to boot.

Other Thoughts
It has been a decent Sunday. The wife and I did a bit of shopping. Still feeling bummed out, however. Life goes on.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

I watched Anderson Cooper's tribute to Bourdain on youtube. I thought it was very nice and good to hear from someone that dealt with him on a personal level.

Catching up from being way behind Doug!

Some great shaves! Bummer that your work was as stellar! Hope thing are better for you this week!

The worst part of yesterday's shave was the heat rash that I got on my neck due to the combination of razor irritation, Colorado heat, and sweat.

Today is a better day for my neck.

A comfortable rush job before work. Shaving really improves my mood.

Today was a quick two-passer with a new Indian Wilkie. I would call it DFS- today, but there was absolutely no feedback from the alum, except in a spot that was still irritated from yesterday. My face feels good but stubbly today. The lack of feedback from the alum really made me smile.

Gear
Saturday my PAA alum block crumbled into a bunch of unusable bits. I had been using it for about a year of daily shaves, so it was good value for money. I was hoping it would last a bit longer, but them's the breaks right? I pulled out one of my MD Barber brand alum blocks that I got on Amazon a few weeks ago. It is a nice sized chunk and it works well. The surface is a bit rough so far, but it will smooth out with use. So far it works great. I would have no problems recommending it to someone else. The only issue with it is the lack of any sort of container for travel or counter-top storage.

Other Thoughts
Mondays tend to suck. But today hasn't been too bad so far. I am too busy to sit around feeling bummed out.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

I must say Doug that I am blessed to not be plagued with being prone to irritation from shaving.I can certainly give myself irritation if I am not careful, but generally speaking it is not a problem for me. So sorry that it is for you.

You should move here. The weather is great.

We have considered it on two occasions, most recently as last summer. We both have extended family, and one of my best friends from fraternity days that live in Denver, the Springs and Monument.

I have sensitive skin. It is one of the things that made shaving a horrible chore for most of my life. I get much better results now with traditional shaving techniques.

Not that you needed more reason than being nearer to me.

I love living in Denver. Colorado Springs and Monument are both great towns too. My in-laws live in CO Springs.

Catching up Doug, and nice reads, I would move to the Silverton/Durango Area in second, but Sharons Temperature gradient requirement wont allow it , LOL
