Overview
Today's shave was a late afternoon shave and was my first with the Admiration. It was my first time using a square toe razor and my first time using a Solingen razor.

The Latha is still a great soap with great performance. I went for three passes with the straight and one cleanup with the Tech. The Admiration is amazingly light. I had little problem finding a good angle with it. The overall shave was a bit rough, but I expect the blade to improve with another shave or two. I would call it CCS after four passes. There was a fair bit of stubble left behind and some lasting irritation.

Thanks for honing this, Dave.

The Admiration is lighter than the other straights that I have used. I have no doubt that I can get a great shave from it. I just need to figure out the best angle with it.

Other Thoughts
One of my local antique shops was having a 20% off sale today. I found out about it when I was there on Saturday. So, I went back to pick up a lovely round toed Dovo that I found on Saturday. But that is not what I came home with. Instead I brought home a razor that I have been wanting in my collection for about a year and a half. Here is a pic.
Obviously that is not the original case for this razor. But, it is a very nice NEW SC.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Nice shave Doug, and wonderful pick up with the NEW SC.

Lighter razors tend to deceive when being used, because they don't have the inertia behind them of other razors. It can cause you to use a little too much pressure as a result.

Also, an extended stropping session on your Tony Miller strop will tone the edge down a bit...

Excellent shave Doug especially with all the firsts. Awesome find at the antique store!

Good find, those are great razors to shave with. You found one that looks like it’s in great condition.

....so, no Dovo eh?

I did strop it before (20 each linen and leather) and after (30 each). I will give it some more strop love before my next shave with it.

Thanks.

It is in wonderful condition.

I will eventually get a Dovo, maybe two, but perhaps I will buy new... We shall see.

Getting caught up Doug from the weekend. Hope you enjoyed the long weekend.

Thanks.

Another great lather from the B&M Latha. Why did they discontinue this product? Two passes and BBS all the way. Unfortunately, the irritation from yesterday was brought back today. But, that can't stop the faceturbation.

Gear
The Gillette NEW is a great razor. Effortless and efficient. I wish Gillette would start making these (and Techs) again.

Other Thoughts
Had a good weekend, but didn't get enough sleep last night. Tonight, dinner and cigars with one of my best friends.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Nice quick entry Doug. I haven't enjoyed a cigar in quite some time. Perhaps I will need to get some of the guys together and remedy that.

Good couple of shaves Doug! Nice wild find on the SC!
I haven't had a cigar since Saturday night, might have to remedy that tonight.

Nice shave with the NEW, Doug! B&M discontinued the Latha line of soaps when Will released his Reserve line. He didn't want to have two vegan based soaps of his competing against one another. He felt his reserve line was a better performer, so kept that one and Latha went away.

Great shaves and a very nice acquisition. That thing looks to be in great shape.

Nice! I never did find a NEW SC in the wild. Found plenty of LC NEWs and a New Improved, but never a short-comb. I hear they are sweet shavers. The geometry is essentially very similar to a post-war Tech, but the open comb allows for a more efficient shave. It clamps the blade down tightly, though, which is why the razor is such a smooth shaver.

Nice find.

A repeat of yesterday's shave except for AS. It is really good stuff, but a bit of lasting irritation. I need to focus on technique.
