DeepSea’s Journal

I would absolutely hate to ruin a beautiful piece of leather with my unskilled hands. I was looking at the poor man strop from whipped dog, but I think I’ll go with the even cheaper one that @MilkCrate suggested. I can be pretty hard on gear at times and for under $10 with good reviews I can’t pass it up.

I’ve have the poorman strop also and it’s handy if you can take an SR when you travel. The way it loops, you can hang it on a towel rack.

Thanks to @Dave in KY I had the opportunity to give the Game Changer .84 a try this evening. I’ve been using my SS Lupo recently so it’s all I can really compare it against. My first impression is that there is definitely more blade feel and I needed to have a lighter touch and watch my angles a bit more. I was surprised to see how similar the GC and the Lupo were when I had the heads side by side with the shave feeling so different. The OC plate came along for the ride so that’ll be on deck for tomorrow. I’m keeping my fingers crossed since I don’t usually get along with OC razors.

I have the Lupo DLC as well as Game Changer 84 SB and OC. I have found exactly what you have, the GC has a lot more blade feel. Ride the cap, and light touch.

Up for tonight was the GC .84 OC. I detected slightly more blade feel compared to the SB. It delivered a nice close shave with no irritation. Both of the GC .84 configurations feel like they can bite if you’re not careful compared to the Lupo but if I had a few days growth the higher efficiency would be welcome. CBL Breakfast Blend was the soap of choice tonight. I really like the scent but I just don’t seem to get along with it. I’ve used it about 10 times or so and I keep getting a tingling and stinging sensation while it’s on my face. I’m also having a hard time building a good lather with it. The Tonsorial base on the other hand was absolutely fantastic to me. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but with the stinging on my face I may have to give up on this one.

The self quarantining is going as well as can be expected. One thing I am really missing is the occasional stroll through the swap meet, flea market, thrift store or antique shop. There is just something about vintage and antique items that make me reminisce about my childhood in Pennsylvania. Browsing the bay or similar online shops just aren’t doing for me. I’ve been getting a bit nostalgic over the last couple weeks.

Anyway, hope you’re all doing well and staying safe and thank you everyone out the facing this thing head on!

I got a lot of superficial irritation from Breakfast Blend too, sadly...also loved the scent though!

The Tonsorial is a definite winner in value and shave!

Today’s shave was all brought to me by the Cadre. Razor is on loan from Dave in KY, blades came from him as well and the soap, brush and elixir are all from the 2nd anniversary grab bag. I loved the Tonsorial base and the new Master Barber took it up quite a few notches. Awesome soap! After the first use of Lisa’s elixir it bumped the Zingari balm to second place. My face feels incredibly soft and hydrated. I think tonight was my 5th shave with the GC and it’s a wonderful razor. Very easy to get a comfortable BBS shave.

On to non-shaving related thoughts. I was walking the pups this morning and didn’t get further than the corner. The boys were marking the stop sign when a big ole loose dog came sprinting up and snapped at Fred and Ralph. luckily I was able to pick them up by their harnesses in time. That damn dog kept coming after them even with me kicking him in the ribs while I tried to keep my self in between them all. Good new is I was able to get them back to the house with about injury. Was going to go back out to look for the loose dog but the better half talked me out of it. Other than that is was a good day. Got a good amount of work done and it should be pretty light for the rest of the week.
I am very happy to have found this little corner of the internet. Thank you all for fostering such a positive community. Hope you all had a great day.

-John

Glad you and the doggies survived the walk none the worse for the wear! Glad you’re liking the GC, it’s a great razor!

Glad you saved the pups. I hate that the dog may still be wandering around. Hopefully it isn't left running free but just got away from it's owner somehow.

I’m thinking the other dog escaped from a back yard. Had a collar on and was looked healthy. He can’t get all too far with the base being fenced in and I haven’t seen a missing dog post on the family Facebook group.

Today I finally got to try some Stirling products. I’ve wanted to get a few samples from them but have been waiting for their coffee to come online to save a couple bucks on shipping. I have been missing out! Easy to load, easy to lather and slicker than snot. Hipster isn’t a scent I would have bought from the scent notes but I really like it, especially the dry down on the splash.

I switched up the razor this evening and went back to the Lupo. The GC is a damn fine razor and I would love to have one in the den, but I don’t think I would reach for it over the Lupo or the Yates very often. Once I can get myself to thin out the den a bit I wouldn’t be surprise if I end up picking one up. Time will tell.

Stirling puts out an excellent product for sure. One of the best values in wet shaving as well.
