Dagwoodzs Tonsorium; vlog, shaves and reviews

Watched your last two videos Josh. Wonderful as always. I really wanted to like the Which One's Pink soap...but I'm just not a fan of the scent. It's funny...I like some floral scents, but not all. I like rose scents, but not all. Anyway...just the combination of the these scents together didn't appeal to me. I really thought about the Amber Rose he just put on pre-order...and in all likely hood I would like it. But I think I am going to wait for some of the other scents he is supposed to release soon! Specifically the Anonymous scent!

I can see how Which One's Pink might not be for everyone...especially if you aren't a floral lover....or are very picky with your florals. The Anonymous scent is just supposed to be pink peppercorn and bergamot, I THINK...lightly scented just to give it something. That soap was more to test out the new soap base that Amber Rose is being sold in. (I think the demand was high enough he decided to forgo waiting and went with it). The new base is getting VERY high praise...I went ahead and ordered a tub and splash. Can't really complain about the art either. lol

Lol thanks for the shout out. Good shave man! Interested to see how it stacks up to the Brass General!

I thought I read on FB that the Anonymous scent was going to be Sandalwood and Peppercorns? Maybe I'm confused with something else that he is doing. All I know is that he has listed about four or five soaps that he is coming out with that I think I really want! he needs to get them out with it already! I debated on if I wanted the Amber Rose or not. I wasn't going to buy it based on something that happened while I was in the employ of Louisiana State Police (I know it is weird...but if you want to know I can discuss it with you offline...it's not appropriate here). Anyway...I decided I wanted to buy it...and I now see it is sold out! Man you have to be quick don't you!

As far as the floral scents go...I never thought I was picky. I actually like rose scented soaps. But this one seemed too powdery for me or maybe it was the entire combination. Not sure...but it just didn't settle well with me. I will say that I am partial to honeysuckle, geranium, orange blossom, lily, or jasmine.

Thanks Chris!

You might be right on the scent notes of Anonymous...but I do know that he didn't scent it too heavily, just enough to give the soap base a little scent.

The great thing about this hobby is that YMMV is about the most appropriate thing you can say. Not everyone is going to like a scent, for various reasons, biology and how each person interprets a scent being high on that list.

Thanks Dave! The rose does come forward a bit to give the floral component some punch, but I enjoy a good rose scent, so this was nice. A&E doesn't do samples, unfortunately. I'll include a sample from my tub when I send your Karve back.
Sorry Josh, getting caught up on the videos. Nice stuff and sample sounds nice. Then I'll know if a tub is okay irritation wise. Thanks!! Saw a Dart on BST today in the other neighborhood. Listed as FSOT but doesn't have a price on it.

You are certainly methodical in your evaluations. Communicating a score can be hard to do when there are so many soaps with so many characteristics and experiences, you seem to be pretty consistent.

As an artisan, I am pretty happy with my soap. I am less happy with the presentation, not the actual look, just the quality of label. I am not likely to change things up this year but I am working on better quality labels.

Hard to argue with the ratings here. It is just an all around great soap!

Thanks Chad!

Thank you Dave...the Dart is a very good shaver, the longevity of the shaves I was getting was pretty darned good.

Thanks Chris...evaling the soaps can get a little dicey at times when they're all getting so good. The labeling that you use isn't so much of an issue and I know you'll be making changes in the future. Just glad to be able to use a great soap like you make!

Nice video Josh. No one likes their nose assaulted for sure. Was waiting for you to add the shavemac to the pif

LOL...thanks Dave! Yeah...not likely on the Shavemac. Sorry, not sorry!

Glad you mentioned that Darkfall is heavy on the cedar. While I enjoy a cedar scent...I find a lot of scent bases have cedar and I am getting a little tired of it. I might try harmony as it sounds like it might be more of what I like.

You say surprisingly close about CBL Premium Soap and then correct yourself. To be honest...Chris' soaps were a surprise to me. I knew they were good...but when he unveiled his brand...it really blew away my expectations. So yeah...I think surprisingly fits!

And man...you make shaving with a straight look incredibly effortless!

Thanks Don! So the "cedar" that I'm smelling, after looking at the scent notes is the combination of Birch Tar and Agarwood blending together. Throw in the smell of burning leaves and it creates a very unique scent, not unlike sitting in between a freshly made cedar hutch and a fireplace. With that being said, the smoke is quite subtle, just giving the overall scent some nuance to it; the feeling that there is a fire going on nearby. It's quite nice, to be honest.

IRT Chris's soaps, after using six of them, I'm honestly pretty excited about the brand; and not because he's one of the owners here. They're great performing soaps, overall. They aren't the best in any category, but are amongst the best in many and I just really enjoy using them so the "experience factor" is through the roof on them.
