Dagwoodzs Tonsorium; vlog, shaves and reviews

Nice video Josh. I have a couple boar that like you I don't go to often so I prefer the synthetic and badger. Have mostly synthetic as I didn't have freed up money to spend on a decent badger until recently as you know I picked up the Paladin and have 2 more brushes coming from Eric, 1 badger (Envy Shave Luxury Silver Tip and 1 Synthetic Tuxedo Half Moon) Still experimenting with the Badgers and what I like. The Synthetics seem to work better for me as I like a good splaying in my brush. Guess that's just what I've gotten used too. I keep meaning to ask you about the bowl you lather with. I like the design with the thumb loop handle and the pattern inside it for whipping the lather. What make is it?

So, I picked this up a few months into my shaving journey off of Etsy at "The Shaving Place". Unfortunately, I haven't seen them list any items for at least a year. There are other pottery makers on Etsy who make lather bowls, however, with the thumb loop and recessed grooves instead of the raised grooves like the Captain's Choice bowls. Both work very well, my preference is the recessed grooves, however.

Gotcha, Thanks. I got in on the first run of 20 of the new Captains Choice Hammered Copper Bowls. These are pics of them as they were getting tweaked and not the finals yet. Release is I think late October. Can cup them in hand but like the design of yours. Have a good day !!

1st off, every time I see one of your videos I say "I gotta get a spray bottle for when I bowl lather a sample" Really like that idea to control adding of water. Great video Josh. I've never used the select but have the Glide "Fragile Confusion" and it was slicker then snot with the 1 shave I've had with it so far.

The Future your first DE? Man...if that was my first DE I probably wouldn't be shaving right now. I might not be living right now!

Glad the soap was better this time around! CRSW Select was one of those soaps that I first noticed a big difference in Post Shave Feel.

Thanks Dave. I actually got the idea from our very own CBLindsay. Of course, I think he abandoned the concept when he was face lathering and instead of spraying the brush he sprayed his face. He can correct me if I got that wrong....

Thanks Don! Yeah, it's still the razor that has given me my worst Murphy visit to date on my philtrum. But, I learned (the hard way) the lesson of no pressure and weight of the razor. That's part of the reason I have a more difficult time with lighter razors than most do. (the 'jectah is the one exception)

CRSW is turning out to be a great soap, too bad they took away much of the Select line and don't have nearly as many scent options. Other than the fact they won't ship APO...which is a full stop for me anyways.

Yeah, I was using a spray bottle filled with distilled water. I didn't bother soaking the brush in distilled water because my water is pretty good. I liked the ability to add a somewhat defined amount of water to the lather and yes, i found spraying it on my face to be a bit of a mixed bag. It was a bit refreshing but i couldn't shake the feeling I was being punished for scratching the furniture. I was forced to give up the spray bottle when my wife took it to use on my daughter's hair. I used to have a spray bottle for honing too but that somehow got filled with bleach water...not happy about that one but I am pleased it wasn't my face bottle.

When I was in boot camp for the Marine Corps we would all have to stand in line for the various inspections we had. If it was a big inspection...battalion commander or higher...the drill instructors made sure we all smelled our best. While standing in line a recruit would walk down it and stand in front of the other future marines with two spray bottles. One would be mouth wash and the other was this stuff that came out of a plastic bottle called Wind Drift...which I think was supposed to smell like Old Spice. The recruit would spray the mouth wash into your mouth and spray the Wind Drift onto your neck. I probably don't have to tell you that this often got mixed up and there were no re-dos. While I smelled minty fresh...the taste of aftershave/cologne was not all that pleasant!
