Whoa that was quite the catch up! Awesome shaves and nice Baccy haul!

Thanks Chad!

Wonderful shaves and the cigar haul is stellar looking. I myself never really got into cigars.

Thanks TJ!
I find that most people do not get introduced to cigars or pipes for that matter correctly. Just like wine. I have had many people say they don't like wine, but then I find out all they ever had was a BIG FULL BODIED Red, or something along the lines of a Mad Dog 20/20. Never introduced properly. Same with cigars. You have to start mild and/or flavored and grow into the full bodied blends.

Outstanding catch-up Craig! Rossa is a great soap indeed!

Whew, quite the catching up lol. Excellent shaves Craig! Partagas was one of my favorite cigar brands back in the day when I smoked them.

Thanks Eric!

I don't usually go for a Partagas, which is strange because I do like them. I have a few to last me for a while now.

Awesome stuff. I was into cigar for quite some time, but stopped when I met my wife and she could still smell them after brushing my teeth and washing my hands. I've gotten back into a pipe recently though, so might need to pick-up a few cigars. Upman was one of my go-tos.

Rossa is my favorite Nuavia soap. Waiting to see if we try to buy a house this summer. If we don't, I'll be in my den in a month. People weren't kidding when they talk about how amazing the performance is. Quite the PIF!

H. Upmann makes some nice sticks for sure! Then there is one that they call The Banker, I don't care for it at all!
Yeah I had heard and read all the hype on the PannaCreama Nuavia, and it does live up to it, but still haven't been able to make myself drop that much on just a soap. Yeah I get that you don't need and aftershave with it, but still.

I still have many cigars left from when I retired. (15 years ago) I need to get some smoked so I can add some new blood to my collection. But SWMBO has verbotten smoking in the house so summertime is about it.

I hope you have a kept them in a well maintained humidor. A 15 year aged stick should be really smooth!

Straight Razor Shave #142

Pre Shave: LAB Series Pro LS All-In-One Cleansing Gel
Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP 5/8 cira 1920 to 1940
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Bruce
Soap: Barrister & Mann Reserve Spice Shaving Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Thayers
After Shave: Old Spice After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Old Spice Cologne

This scent is B&M's take on Old spice. It's a nice likeness, but with it's own character. Whipped up a great lather with the Bruce.

I haven't documented here what has become my pre shave routine yet. So here it is, I've been doing this for a while and it works for me.
I use the SV method to lather most of my soaps, 1st I put a thin layer of water on the soap and let it sit, to bloom, while I shower.
I soak my brush in the scuttle while I shower also.
I wash my face. Normally I shave after I shower, so this is usually done in the shower.
I take my brush out of the scuttle and give it a good squeeze, not a wring it dry squeeze, but firm.
I empty the water out of the scuttle and refill the outer compartment with hot water.
I dump the bloom water into the soap compartment of the scuttle.
I then load my brush on the soap, usually some where between 15 and 30 seconds will be more than enough.
I move to the scuttle and start making a lather, adding more water as needed drops at a time.
Once I have my lather like I want it, I set it aside.
I wet a towel with as hot of water as I can stand on my face.
I apply this wet towel to my face for at least 1 minute.
I then wet my face and lather it.
Re-wet the towel and apply it over the lather on my face for another minute or so.
I then re-wet my face and re-apply lather.
I let this lather set on my face for about 30 seconds or so.
I'm now ready to shave.

This morning the shave was going really well until, I was doing the ATG pass on my left cheek and I got a bite! I have no clue as to how this happened. Nothing the alum couldn't take care of, but I haven't had a nick or weeper on a cheek in a long time! Anyhow 3½ passes later and sans the seepage I'm BBS. Just a little alum sting on the bite, and some on the neck, it was being stubborn today for some reason.

Finished with the Old Spice After Shave and Cologne. I had to stop and wonder, just how many times my Dad, Grandads, and Great Grandads did the exact same thing? Remember journal visitor, if it wasn't for Old Spice, most of us wouldn't be here!

Sounds like Murphy caught the Emirates direct flight to Atlanta to pay you a visit...sorry to hear about the small bite Craig. Other than that, sounds like a great shave, and great picture as well.

Your routine is very similar to mine, though I don't do two towel soaks, just one over a lather.

Good stuff today Craig. I think a lot of gents have adopted the SV recommended way of lathering.

Bummer about the bite, but a stellar set up. Old Spice - the greatest aftershave of all time!

I use the SV method because so far that are very few soaps that it hasn't worked with.

Thanks Chris! Oh and thanks again for the PIF of the soap!

Great shave and read Craig. The B&M Reserve base is fantastic, and no arguments on the awesomeness of Old Spice.

Straight Razor Shave #143

Pre Shave: LAB Series Pro LS All-In-One Cleansing Gel
Razor: Buck Salient #138 of 250
Double Edge Razor: X2 Gillette Tech w/Maggard Razors MR9 Handle
Blade: Feather
Brush: Asylum Brush Works Cheswick Shaving Brush in Silvertip Fiber
Soap: Vitos Extra Super
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Thayers
After Shave: Bootlegger Bay Rum

1st a little background. I was told to come into work 3 hours late today so I could work late without going over 12 hours.

Thanks to chm737 aka Chris H. for the PIF of today's soap.

1st of all the scent of the soap is 4 of 5 on the puck, lathered it's a 5 of 5. Mostly almond but I do get a hint of coconut. Kinda reminds of Amaretto. No problem whipping up a great lather. The lather is nice and slick and the residual slickness it superb.

I started with the Buck and had planned to do the entire shave with it. I did manage to give myself a little love bite on the 3 stroke of the 1st pass. Yes the toe on this razor will bite if you don't watch it and I didin't. Nothing major just a scratch. As I was lathering for the 3rd pass I notice the time and realized I didn't have time to finish with the straight, so I grabbed the DE and finished. BBS is what I'll call this. No alum sting except for the scratch.

Finished with the Bootlegger's Bay Rum, which is and excellent match for this soap.

If you haven't made any of the Bootlegger's blends you should. They are great after shaves.

No shave Thursday

3-30-2018
Today I went to a new barber for a haircut and shave. I saw this ladies ad on facebook and figured I'd give her a try. She was very nice, the conversation was good and the haircut was great and the shave wasn't bad, BBS- to DFS+ Not bad all things considered. Keep in mind in Alabama they have to use a shavette and no brush. She used Woody's Cream. It seemed slick enough, but I think the cushion was lacking.
A good thing about this cut and shave was I got to have some Woodford Reserve Double Oak Bourbon to sip on during the process. Nice!

Nice shave with the Vitos Craig...and if you aren't the one driving, nothing wrong with having a nip or two!

Nice shave Craig. That razor is definitely a looker. I keep telling myself that one of these days I am going to schedule an appointment to get a shave at my local barber shop. I just never have the fore sight to know when I will have the time and this place is so busy, you have to schedule a week out for a hair cut, no idea how far out for a shave.

Good stuff. I used to dream about having someone give me a good shave, but now I wonder if I could stop critiquing what they were doing and relax.
