My Dad served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands where he was the company baker and part of a three-man machine gun team. My Sister has his Army cookbooks. The recipes were sized for 250 men. He shared all the funny Army stories with us, but I'm sure there were stories he did not share. I had other Uncles that served around the world during WWII and Korea. I believe they were all in the Army, except for my Bride's uncle who served in the U.S. Navy on convoys that escorted merchant ships. I have a brother-in-law that served in the U.S. Air Force as a communications officer and instructor during Viet Nam. He enlisted right out of HS, served 20 years, and made it to Captain.
They all served faithfully, and thankfully, they all came home.
My Dad enjoyed knife collecting/trading. As kids, my Sister and I went with him to knife shows most every weekend. She and I got a few of his knives when he passed. By that time, he had sold most of his collection, though. He had some really cool and rare knives over the years.
This is my Dad. I hope to visit the Aleutian Islands some day. I've heard a lot about it.
I've had the MdC for several years, but I managed to finish it in January. It's good soap. I have another one ready to break out after I use up a couple of other pucks in rotation.
Hey, keep pushing those blades! A penny saved is a penny earned!

K.J., did you serve in the U.S. Air Force? If so, thank you for your service.
I should also mention that my Bride's Dad served in the U.S. Army during WWII. I remember him talking about being in Japan immediately after the war. I can't even imagine what he saw there.
I didn't know my Mom's family, but she had brothers that also served during WWII. One, in particular, served for 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as a MGySgt.
Yes, I retired from the Air Force in 2014. And Thank You.

Following a detour with my Parker SRX (to use up a lonely half-DE blade and confirm that I'd still rather shave with a DE), I'm back to the Muhle R41.

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the kind words. My Dad is one of the reasons I shave with Gillette gear. I remember him using an adjustable and a Trac II. I expect he learned how to shave as a young guy with a Gillette NEW since they were inexpensive and readily available in those days.
My Dad used whatever hand soap was near the sink for his lather, and one pass was always good enough.

Hello everyone!
It has been awhile! My Bride and I traveled to the Florida panhandle and southern Italy this Spring, and we had a blast. I decided to take a forum break during that time, but I thought I'd jump back in today with some photos of my shave den.
This is my shaving closet in the guest bathroom. I store razors in test tube racks that I purchased on Amazon. I have an empty handmade @JTSpartan razor rack in the back that is about to be filled with some beautiful razors I purchased from Ed's estate.
My rotation is small compared to to my shaving brothers. I've pared down over the years to razors and brushes that I enjoy using. I have a few extra birth-year and birth-quarter razors as well.
I have a ton of soaps that includes five brands that I enjoy using: Tabac, Mike's, Stirling, Proraso, and MdC. Occasionally, I'll include a Sandalwood TOBS cream. I've tried many others, but I keep coming back to these products. My most recent additions are some Proraso products that I purchased in Italy...it's inexpensive and available in most grocery stores. I also have a few extra bottles of Fine and Alt-Innsbruck aftershaves stored in a dark, cool spot in my basement.
These are the items I'm currently using at my sink or in the drawers below. It's my version of organized chaos, and it (barely) meets my Bride's minimum housekeeping standards.
I hope you gents are doing well. I'll try to post more often going forward.

In a nutshell, we spent a few days in Rome on our own, took a 13-day small-group tour of South Italy (see the map), and then stayed a few more days on the Amalfi Coast in Minori. We favored the small coastal towns over the bigger cities like Rome and Naples.
We took precautions, but I tested positive for COVID a couple of days after I got home. Thankfully, my Bride was unscathed, and my symptoms were minor. If either of us had tested positive in Italy before boarding our flight home, it would have delayed our return by 7-21 days...as we would have been immediately taken from the airport to a quarantine hotel. Unfortunately, we know of some folks that had to stay behind. It's an interesting time to travel internationally.
