Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Wholly crap how did I get a week behind?

All caught up now!

Great reads, shaves, and pictures Chad! Well except for the Friday the 13th one. Seems I've read at least two other sub par shaves and I had one myself. Mr. M's holiday for sure!

Good shave Chad...I did get a chance to watch the video last night, that came out well! have a good Monday, brother!

Well today was another fantastic shave that I called my throwback. Going back to products that started it all. It wasn't much but it's what got me into the hobby. I walked away with a BBS- today as very lower neck right after shave felt the tiniest amount of stubble. But here I sit at work smooth as baby's butt! I did record the shave and it should be up soon.

Well busy week this week. I am doing interviews as my team is growing and I need to hire two people. I also need to write my mid year self eval and write evals on my team. I need to do it quickly as I have some vacations coming up. Aside from that not much going on. Hope you all have a great day!

Col. Conk Lime--one of my first soaps as well! I remember getting my first puck of Stirling a month or so later, and the poor Conk Lime quickly found a new home (the garbage). I think I still have 2 of the pucks from the Conk 4-pack (which, BTW, draws in newbies like bees to honey). I should dig one out and see how it performs...

Nice black & white photo yesterday, Chad! And good ole Col Conk! I totally dig the lime - smells like a Jolly Rancher to me, and I mean that in a good way. I have to wonder if the reason people don't give the old Colonel any love is because it was one of their first soaps, or even first soap, and thus didn't really have to know-how to get a good lather. I would recommend for those who have been at this hobby for at least a year, give it another shot.

LOL, that's what happened to my puck of the Conk as well. Might have kept it a little longer if the packaging was better, but I don't miss it that's for sure.

Great throwback Chad. Good to remember that even the old cruddy stuff still can pull out a good shave!

Absolutely! When we first start, most of us start with something cheap, Tier 3 or Tier 2 at best. We get good but not great lather, so we look for something better. Then we chase the lather snipe trying to get the best and the next greatest thing, all the while improving our technique. We never go back to what we started with, because compared to what we have now, that was crap! But was it? Really? With our improved techniques we can really get a good lather from almost any soap. I revisited VDH today, and was pleased with the performance. So much so, that it really makes me wonder why I’m thinking about spending $20-$25 on a puck of soap......

Great throw back shave Chad. Aaahhhh I remember the Conk Lime when I started too.

The Col. Is where a lot of people start. With focus it can provide a good shave.

Nice throw back Chad! Giving some love to the old products.

Thanks Don.

I never threw mine away. My first was actually the Amber. But I really like the Lime scent, one of the best lime scents out there. But once I switched to Stirling the rest was history so to speak.

Yes I agree Jolly Rancher. Or Green Skittle before they ruined them with Green Apple. I also agree with your recommendation.

Great stuff Chad! Will get to the throwback video here shortly!

Thanks Josh!

I address the packaging in my journal and how to get around it. And it doesn't involve melting it!

Yes this is true. And why spend the 20-25? Well why not? LOL. Just get free shipping LOL then you are saving money.

I think you just had the thought of the day! Free shipping may be the only true way of saving money in this hobby! LOL

Razor: Gillette Aristocrat #16
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Soap/cream: Lisa's NHC Plaide Cloime
Brush: Razorock Synthetic
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Aqua Velva Musk

Well today I grabbed a soap that I can not pronounce you can hear me try in my video today LOL. But today's shave is not about the soap. Nope it is about the razor.

Chris CMH737 sent me this razor to use and compare to my Timeless razor. I have been tasked with determining if the Timeless is worth it if you have the Aristocrat.

I did record a video I tried keeping it shorter but still ended up being right around 20 min, but it is all talking about the razor. I will summarize in type at the end of this test but the big things here is my plan.

Today: Aristocrat on Camera
Tomorrow: Timeless on Camera
Thursday: Aristocrat possibly on camera
Friday: Timeless possibly on camera
Saturday thru Monday I am out of town, and no shaves. Sorry guys LOL.
Tuesday: Straight to remove beard growth
Wednesday: Aristocrat possibly on camera
Thursday: Timeless possibly on camera
Friday: Aristocrat one side of face, Timeless on other side.

Then I am gone for a week. Upon my arrival I will return the razor to Chris.

So anyways initial impressions after only a two pass shave no clean up I wanted to see where it would get me. I was DFS+ just two minor spots with stubble remaining. I t
hink this razor would have sufficed with just a clean up pass no third pass. But that test is later. The craftsmanship on this razor is absolutely beautiful. Chris if you know any of the history of the razor I would appreciate if you share. The razor is definitely the heaviest Gillette razor I have used, and I really enjoyed it. This is going to be a hard test. But I feel with my timeline above I have a good plan set up. My last post in this will go into more detail on each razor and explain what I see as pros and cons. So for now if you want to know more you can watch the video.

Well an early day today at work, but I will be off early also which is nice. We had a nice storm roll through last night, with crazy thunder and rain that was greatly appreciated. I have plans this evening to try and mow my backyard hopefully the heat dies down this evening so I can get that done. Nothing else really planned. Enjoy your Tuesday Cadre.

Nice shave today Chad...I always marvel at the craftsmanship of those Aristocrats. I'll have to watch the video later as I am already late for work!

Not the razor I had in mind when you said you were borrowing his aristocrat.
But Gillette made several different aristocrats. That’s a great one! Never used one like that. Think I need to get one!
