Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Got a couple tubs coming from Lisa including somali rose. Good to hear the scent is a good pic. That and amber & tobacco caught my eye. Extra cash never hurts. Have a good camping trip!

Thank you. And I am fairly confident that you will like the Lisa's. I am itching to get back up in the mountains! Is it Friday 2PM yet?

Great shave, read, and picture Chad!

Thanks Craig

Straight Shave #198

Razor: Feather SS
Blade: Feather ProGuard (4)
Soap/cream: Honeybee Soaps Green Irish Tweed
Brush: TSC Legacy Brush
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man
Cologne: WSP Gaelic Tweed

Well today I fished out a tub of Honeybee Soaps and the one I ran across first is the Green Irish Tweed interpretation. This is a very good rendition based off the sample of the real deal that I once upon a time had. Fresh and clean scent. This soap is a unique one as it is a melt and pour soap but with more skin conditioning properties added. The only real knock on this soap as I have used them over the years is residual slickness. Not a problem though, as just make sure to always apply a little extra lather to the face before doing a clean up pass. The water band as I refer to is not as wide as some tallow based soaps so pay attention to the lather and don't add to much otherwise the lather will flatten. I am not trying to be harsh in my description but rather just honest. A lot of wetshavers shy away from glycerin based soaps and you really shouldn't with a just a tiny bit of patience you are going to get great initial slickness, very good cushion, and really good face feel! This soap hits all those marks well.

I have used this soap for awhile now and feel confident in my rating. It is a solid Tier 2 Box 5. I put it in tier 2 only because getting the right lather can be troublesome for some people, and admittedly it did take me a few shaves to get it fully dialed in. Because of that I put it here meaning if there is a scent that interests you go for it! Buy it, master it and enjoy the great shaves.

As you can see I used Stirling for the Aftershave, and WSP cologne with two sprays I almost drowned but I smell great!

Homefront:

Yesterday as seen in the threads in the 'other interests' section Megan and I enjoyed a much needed date night. Today I will go do those 4 basketba
ll games, then head home and get the trailer opened up so we can load bedding and clothes. We are ready to get back out into the mountains!

Have a great Thursday Cadre.

Nice one Chad! I'm going to be picking up some Honeybee soaps here in the near future...it will be my first glycerin based soap, so looking forward to the experience.

Nice shave Chad. Haven't had a glycerin since my old mama bears days. Will get some of these when wife settles down about recent acquisitions.

I think glycerin soaps work just fine. I'm quite pleased with my Mama Bear shave sticks, as well as my Lime Col Conk.

Thanks Josh. I hope you enjoy the soaps!

Thanks Dave. And in my personal unprofessional opinion Honeybee's lather is just a tad bit better than Mama Bear. But I do enjoy Mama Bear soaps too.

I agree Chris. And I also enjoy that Lime scent from the Conk!

Nice set up and shave, Chad. Have fun camping!

Thanks Eric and trust me I will have fun!

Freedom is so close!

Good shave, way to support a vendor! Why do they cal these soaps “melt and pour”? Is that basically just the way they are made, melted together and tinned up?

That is basically it.

Most people label Melt n Pour as a soap that is primarily Glycerin based think Mama Bears or Col. Conk. It is easily melted and can be poured into any container without affecting the performance.

Sounds like a busy day! But there is reward there with the weekend trip.

Going to grab some of Sue's soaps in the near future here. Sad to say, I have never tried hers...yet!

Great review, shave, and picture Chad!

Have fun at the games hopefully there is no drama, even thou I like the stories.

Thanks Don. I think you will like the Honeybee soap but realize the lather is different.

Thanks Craig. We did have a double overtime game. I'll tell the story tomorrow
