Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Another great shave this morning. About time to change the blade in the vector though.

Yesterday's game went well. Was a great region game and we had an awesome crew. You talk to a Referee they will tell you two goals we always have. 1. Be the best team on the floor, court,or field etc. 2. Let the teams determine the outcome. We despise when we have to take over. This game had it all. Technicals, blood, and flagrant fouls. But honestly this was of my all time favorite games to work. Was a blast.

Today I decided to take a vacation day. It's grandparents day at the school. So taking my grandma. And after going to take her to brunch.

Tonight I'm calling bingo.

Have a great day Cadre

Well here we are another week and it's got to be a good one. The shave today and over the weekend all went well. Scooping out a bit of soap and putting it in the bowl is going to make the soap last a bit longer which is fine by me, because as of now I still believe that I will have 3/4 of the aftershave left when the soap is gone. CBL aftershave lasts a long time and my skin is really liking it.

As to the weekend with the impromptu day off on Friday from work to participate in Grandparents day at my kids school. Saturday was all for my son with his birthday party, it was a bit warmer so we actually able to have some of the activities outside which was fun. Because usually for his birthday and parties I am out shoveling snow. Sunday was a pretty low key day. Megan had a girls day after services with my sister in law so I was home with the kids and was working on putting together some items for the registration kit in Vegas. Hope you all are looking forward to Vegas. This is going to be a blast!

This week is going to be good I am determined to accept that. Have a great day and week Cadre.

Okay It's been a few day since I posted but nothing really to report when it comes to the shaves. I did switch to my Grandpa's slim that I inherited and I have dialed it down to a milder than normal setting and doing 3 full passes. I am getting great results and loving the shaves.

As to the homefront it has been a very very busy week. Monday I had a football board meeting where we had discussions around helping newer officials move up the ranks and then just sat around and BSed until the restaurant kindly asked us to leave.

Tuesday I had a Knights meeting which went well. Yesterday began parent teacher conferences so Megan is exhausted because she is working over 12 hour days and then I am in charge of the kids. So there has been no basketball. But I do have 1 game tonight and am working a double header tomorrow. So back the grind.

Work has been a little rough. While I am enjoying the new area they moved me to in January my boss has been out with Covid. Second time they caught it, and fully vaccinated and boosted all that stuff. But this time around is affecting the lungs and they have been struggling. So being the most senior problem manager in this area I have had to pick up the slack.

Hope you all are having a great week. Friday is nigh!

Alright we made it! It's the weekend and there's a lot going on. The shave was great today. This weekend we are going to a local distillery for a tour and tasting so that should be a fun date day with Megan.

Yesterday I worked a game and there was no link as this was a small school. The school is called RSL Academy. RSL yes Real Salt Lake. So if you follow soccer RSL is our local professional MLS team. So you are asking they have a high school? The answer is yes! This campus was built in 2017 and well not including the housing that they have to allow the students who are from out of state or country to stay in the campus cost roughly 30 million dollars. They have two outdoor soccer fields one is a literal stadium. Here is their website Real Salt Lake Academy The professional women's soccer team actually play at their stadium. They had a prodigy going to that school he is 14 years old, and is good enough at soccer that RSL the team decided to just sign him to a contract and put him on the team. ANYWAYS they are a high school and they have a basketball team. They don't have a gym though. They have field house that houses 3 full size soccer fields. So in the corner they lay down a removable basketball floor. Here look at some pics.

So needless to say add that to one of the weirdest games I have ever worked.

Tonight I am working another game that is a private school vs. a private school. Buckle up here we go. It is American Preparatory Academy - Draper vs. American Preparatory Academy - West Valley. Yup they have TWO campuses and field two separate teams. I am working the JV game and the Varsity game. JV starts at 5:15PM and the varsity starts at 7PM. They do stream their games here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3nVMIPThxnZ5SlZmQnKy7w

Have a good day Cadre!

I mean cool…like pretty darn cool…but weird…

What a weekend. Oh boy! First the shaves... shaves are great no issues at all. I have the soap perfectly dialed in.

So the weekend Friday ended the regular season in basketball for half of the state. Which means that it is time to transition to playoffs and also put more focus on getting ready for Spring football. I have mentioned here before but I do consider myself a much better football referee as opposed to a basketball referee. But I know that I am better than a good amount of the basketball refs in the state of Utah. However about 3 years ago I was I was in one chapter of our union and had a run in with the president and I called him out on his nepotism. Well that led me to switching chapters and due to those political reasons my ranking got held up. Last year it finally moved to the point that I would work varsity games but if you remember I tore my calf. So NOW this year is the year I feel that I can finally start working some playoff games. And I got my first one for tomorrow. So pretty excited about that. Now granted it is only a 2A Girls playoff game but gotta start somewhere. I have no desire to officiate above the high school lever for basketball but I do believe I can be a great HS basketball referee and this is a step towards that.

Saturday was a nice day. We had a sitter for the kids and went and toured the Outlaw Distillery which is a really cool distillery. All of their grains that they use to make their whiskies and rums are all grown in the state of Utah. His whiskey is a little lower proof than I prefer and is young, but the flavor profile seems spot on. I am looking forward to see how it ages overtime. But I also understand he needs to pull and sell some now to stay afloat. After the tour I actually had a really good conversation with him and he said for me to call him on a non tour day to come in and be able to pick up a special bottle that is barrel strength, and to talk to him about marketing. Who knows if anything will come from this but hey this would be COOL! Also his coffee rum is absolutely amazing! imagine cold brew coffee but instead of water it's rum. My favorite offering right now from him though is his 100% Corn Whiskey. It's from a farm in central Utah that is known for making an overly sweet corn and he uses that. Ages it for a little over 3 years. The flavor on this corn whiskey is exceptional. After that we went out to a new to us Korean BBQ joint and had a nice dinner.

Sunday we had an event after church as the Knights of Columbus. About 25 min away from us there is a Monastery for the Carmelite nuns and our council does a lot with them. This particular group of nuns is cloistered so they don't have a lot of interaction with the public. But the spiritual experience you get when meeting these women is amazing. So anyways our council decided to do something special for them on Valentines day. We were thinking when have these women ever gotten something for valentines day? So we went up and brought a box of chocolates for each Sister, roses for each sister, and about a months worth of food to fill their pantry. We coordinated this through our community and accepted all the donations. The looks on their faces when we presented all this to them was something special.

Coupled in all of that we had a sick cat. We noticed blood in her urine and after talking to vets which are apparently having "shortages" we were told by most places we have a ten hour wait. So after finally getting a hold of a nice vet a little bit further of a drive she advised us what to watch for over the weekend and what signs if things appeared to be getting worse. Well Sunday afternoon we noticed she was not longer urinating which is a sign. So called them back and she did say I would have a wait but she could get me in. So off to the vet. Was there a total of about 4 hours. But we have a good treatment plan and already she seems to be doing better. Now to call our main vet who is open M-F and get a follow up appt.

Anyways so there's the Chad weekend dump... and apparently there was a football game too huh? I watched like ten min of the second quarter then turned it off for the halftime show and never turned it back on. Not for any reason in particular just got distracted with more important things.

Hope the Cadre has a good Monday.

Oh man fell behind. But hey guess what I continued to shave with CBL Dread Pirate Robert's and it was a great soap! It is all gone as of yesterday.

Started a new one today. I forgot how good this soap is. I believe you can order from West Coast.

As to everything else it is just an extremely busy time of year and things aren't slowing down anytime soon it seems. Hope you are all doing well.

So realized that my journal has hit the second page. So figured i'd provide an update.

So the shaves have been going excellent. This soap is on the donut of death and probably has a week or so left.

As to the home life things are starting to stabilize but very busy which is the norm. We celebrated our daughter's 5th birthday on the 3rd, and on the 10th we will celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary.

Also this saturday I was invited to work the Utah State University blue and white spring game, so looking forward to this opportunity.

Hope you all are well... I enjoy catching up on your journals.

Well my shaves are about done on this soap. Two days left maybe.

We had a lovely anniversary so thanks to all of you that wished us a nice anniversary.

We went down the whiskey bar and enjoyed a couple of drams then headed over to the restaurant. We went to Flemings Steakhouse where we went ALL OUT!

Had a bottle of wine, two appetizers, a salad to share, two entrees, two sides, and a dessert. Fleming's made the night special for us, greeted us, chef brought us a card, and they sent us on the way with a box of chocolates. Was really impressed by their customer service.

Anyways back to the grind and i'd like to tell you i'll update regularly but we shall see.

Have a good day Cadre.
