Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Well in today's update I guess anger is starting to settle in.

I feel great! Not 100% but perhaps like 95%, what's left well the tiniest amount of congestion similar to spring allergies. But yet here I sit still in isolation. I am actually curious if I would now test negative. I have some theories about this whole Omicron, and I really hope they start looking at this more. Because yes it does hit fast and hard but then it's over. There needs to be a way to test out of isolation and or quarantine. I had one day where I just wanted to stay in bed and do nothing, but beyond that if this was pre-pandemic i'd be back to my normal duties already. I think it's pretty obvious looking at all the reports that Omicron is NOT Delta. Delta was real serious, hospitalized and killed a lot of people. But so far Omicron doesn't seem to be doing that. I fear that if the CDC and health departments do not soften up on their recommendations people will literally not take this serious at all going forward. I've heard that in other parts of the world they are allowing people to test out of isolation we need to be able to do that as well. Stay healthy cadre.

On the shave front I have not shaved since Wednesday the 29th, most of you probably couldn't tell though LOL.

Glad you’re feeling better! I think the issue is that the tests can be specific for Omnicron though and since this thing keeps mutating faster than they can get ahold of the last variant they are being cautious. I’m hoping Omnicron is the last surge - but I’m doubtful.

They set the length of isolation using real world epidemiology and tracking transmissions after x number of days. I would imagine they don’t have enough of that tracking data yet for the new variant. Even for delta many people feel fine while still being infectious. And as I’m sure you know you can test positive months later which is different than being infectious.

Where my frustrations come from is we are into this thing over 2 years now and yet we don't have any tools to help people out of isolation sooner. We should have easily accessible tests for those like your daughter and myself to determine if we really should stay in isolation or if we are still contagious. Instead of relying on people to do the right the thing. I guarantee the vast majority of people are NOT staying in isolation like myself and your daughter. Over two years and our tools feel the same. How nice would it be if after a couple of days your daughter could have tested and it let her know you are no longer contagious come out of your room?

Basically what I'm saying is I can only count the designs on the ceiling so many more times. 937 for those that are curious.

Right there with you brother, and I know it doesn’t help. Totally agree tests like that would be a god send and I know nothing of how possible they are. I just went out and got decorations to celebrate my daughter getting out of quarantine on Tuesday. They go back to school on Wednesday. So she gets one day of the winter break out of her room. And all of my days off were with her in her room.

I can say anger has played a dominant role more than once this year and this holiday it was in full effect. And it’s even tougher because of the helpless feeling. I hear you about all the people not doing the right thing and getting to live their lives. I just keep thinking how stupid would we feel if we didn’t and a grandparent ended up in the hospital. Or someone we didn’t even know.

I dunno. Just rambling. Because there doesn’t seem to be anything else to do.

Well here I am day 5 of covid, and all I have is a residual cough. But alas still isolated. Isolation sucks! Also back to work today since I can do that from isolation, only 458 emails... at least that will help pass the time today.

Still no shave I plan to shave when I am officially out of isolation.

Have a good day cadre.

I think I am clear.... From Utah Dept of Health:

Under the updated guidelines, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 should:

  • Stay at home for 5 days from the day you were tested, even if you don’t have symptoms or feel sick. You can leave your house after 5 days if your symptoms have improved (fever-free without medicine for at least 24 hours and your symptoms have improved). You must stay home for at least 5 days.
  • Wear a mask around others for the 5 days after your home isolation
